Sirach 28

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	BIBLIA
1 The vengeful will suffer the LORD'S vengeance, for he remembers their sins in detail.	1 El que se venga, sufrirá venganza del Señor, que cuenta exacta llevará de sus pecados.
2 Forgive your neighbor's injustice; then when you pray, your own sins will be forgiven.	2 Perdona a tu prójimo el agravio, y, en cuanto lo pidas, te serán perdonados tus pecados.
3 Should a man nourish anger against his fellows and expect healing from the LORD?	3 Hombre que a hombre guarda ira, ¿cómo del Señor espera curación?
4 Should a man refuse mercy to his fellows, yet seek pardon for his own sins?	4 De un hombre como él piedad no tiene, ¡y pide perdón por sus propios pecados!
5 If he who is but flesh cherishes wrath, who will forgive his sins?	5 El, que sólo es carne, guarda rencor, ¿quién obtendrá el perdón de sus pecados?
6 Remember your last days, set enmity aside; remember death and decay, and cease from sin!	6 Acuérdate de las postrimerías, y deja ya de odiar, recuerda la corrupción y la muerte, y sé fiel a los mandamientos.
7 Think of the commandments, hate not your neighbor; of the Most High's covenant, and overlook faults.	7 Recuerda los mandamientos, y no tengas rencor a tu prójimo, recuerda la alianza del Altísimo, y pasa por alto la ofensa.
8 Avoid strife and your sins will be fewer, for a quarrelsome man kindles disputes,	8 Absténte de disputas y evitarás el pecado, porque el apasionado atiza las disputas.
9 Commits the sin of disrupting friendship and sows discord among those at peace.	9 El pecador enzarza a los amigos, entre los que están en paz siembra discordia.
10 The more wood, the greater the fire, the more underlying it, the fiercer the fight; The greater a man's strength, the sterner his anger, the greater his power, the greater his wrath.	10 Según sea la leña, así arde el fuego, según su violencia, arde la disputa; según la fuerza del hombre es su furor y conforme a su riqueza sube su ira.
11 Pitch and resin make fires flare up, and insistent quarrels provoke bloodshed.	11 Riña súbita prende fuego, disputa precipitada vierte sangre.
12 If you blow upon a spark, it quickens into flame, if you spit on it, it dies out; yet both you do with your mouth!	12 Si soplas una chispa, prenderá, si la escupes, se apagará, y ambas cosas salen de tu boca.
13 Cursed be gossips and the double-tongued, for they destroy the peace of many.	13 Al soplón de lengua doble, maldícele, que ha perdido a muchos que vivían en paz.
14 A meddlesome tongue subverts many, and makes them refugees among the peoples; It destroys walled cities, and overthrows powerful dynasties.	14 A muchos sacudió la lengua triple, los dispersó de nación en nación; arrasó ciudades fuertes y derruyó casas de magnates.
15 A meddlesome tongue can drive virtuous women from their homes and rob them of the fruit of their toil;	15 La lengua triple repudió a mujeres varoniles, las privó del fruto de sus trabajos.
16 Whoever heeds it has no rest, nor can he dwell in peace.	16 El que la atiende no encontrará reposo, ni plantará su tienda en paz.
17 A blow from a whip raises a welt, but a blow from the tongue smashes bones;	17 El golpe del látigo produce cardenales, el golpe de la lengua quebranta los huesos.
18 Many have fallen by the edge of the sword, but not as many as by the tongue.	18 Muchos han caído a filo de espada, mas no tantos como los caídos por la lengua.
19 Happy he who is sheltered from it, and has not endured its wrath; Who has not borne its yoke nor been fettered with its chain;	19 Feliz el que de ella se resguarda, el que no pasa a través de su furor, el que su yugo no ha cargado, ni ha sido atado con sus coyundas.
20 For its yoke is a yoke of iron and its chains are chains of bronze!	20 Porque su yugo es yugo de hierro, y coyundas de bronce sus coyundas.
21 Dire is the death it inflicts, besides which even the nether world is a gain;	21 Muerte funesta la muerte que ella da, ¡el seol es preferible a ella!
22 It will not take hold among the just nor scorch them in its flame,	22 Mas no tiene poder sobre los piadosos, en su llama no se quemarán.
23 But those who forsake the LORD will fall victims to it, as it burns among them unquenchably! It will hurl itself against them like a lion; like a panther, it will tear them to pieces.	23 Los que abandonan al Señor caerán en ella, en ellos arderá y no se apagará. Como un león se lanzará contra ellos, como una pantera los desgarrará.
24 As you hedge round your vineyard with thorns, set barred doors over your mouth;	24 Mira, cerca tu hacienda con espinos, encierra bien tu plata y tu oro.
25 As you seal up your silver and gold, so balance and weigh your words.	25 A tus palabras pon balanza y peso, a tu boca pon puerta y cerrojo.
26 Take care not to slip by your tongue and fall victim to your foe waiting in ambush.	26 Guárdate bien de resbalar por ella, no sea que caigas ante el que te acecha.
