Proverbs 9

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	NOVA VULGATA
1 Wisdom has built her house, she has set up her seven columns;	1 Sapientia aedificavit sibi domum, excidit columnas septem;
2 She has dressed her meat, mixed her wine, yes, she has spread her table.	2 immolavit victimas suas, miscuit vinum et proposuit mensam suam.
3 She has sent out her maidens; she calls from the heights out over the city:	3 Misit ancillas suas, ut vocarent ad arcem et ad excelsa civitatis:
4 "Let whoever is simple turn in here; to him who lacks understanding, I say,	4 “ Si quis est parvulus, veniat ad me ”. Et vecordi locuta est:
5 Come, eat of my food, and drink of the wine I have mixed!	5 “ Venite, comedite panem meum et bibite vinum, quod miscui vobis;
6 Forsake foolishness that you may live; advance in the way of understanding.	6 relinquite infantiam et vivite et ambulate per vias prudentiae ”.
7 He who corrects an arrogant man earns insult; and he who reproves a wicked man incurs opprobrium.	7 Qui erudit derisorem, ipse iniuriam sibi facit; et, qui arguit impium, sibi maculam generat.
8 Reprove not an arrogant man, lest he hate you; reprove a wise man, and he will love you.	8 Noli arguere derisorem, ne oderit te; argue sapientem, et diliget te.
9 Instruct a wise man, and he becomes still wiser; teach a just man, and he advances in learning.	9 Da sapienti, et sapientior fiet; doce iustum, et addet doctrinam.
10 The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the LORD, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.	10 Principium sapientiae timor Domini, et scientia Sancti est prudentia.
11 For by me your days will be multiplied and the years of your life increased."	11 Per me enim multiplicabuntur dies tui, et addentur tibi anni vitae.
12 If you are wise, it is to your own advantage; and if you are arrogant, you alone shall bear it.	12 Si sapiens fueris, tibimetipsi eris; si autem illusor, solus portabis malum.
13 The woman Folly is fickle, she is inane, and knows nothing.	13 Mulier stulta est clamosa, fatua et nihil sciens;
14 She sits at the door of her house upon a seat on the city heights,	14 sedit in foribus domus suae super sellam in excelsis urbis,
15 Calling to passers-by as they go on their straight way:	15 ut vocaret transeuntes per viam et pergentes itinere suo:
16 "Let whoever is simple turn in here, or who lacks understanding; for to him I say,	16 “ Qui est parvulus, declinet ad me ”. Et vecordi locuta est:
17 Stolen water is sweet, and bread gotten secretly is pleasing!"	17 “ Aquae furtivae dulciores sunt, et panis in abscondito suavior ”.
18 Little he knows that the shades are there, that in the depths of the nether world are her guests!	18 Et ignoravit quod ibi sint umbrae, et in profundis inferni convivae eius.
