NEW AMERICAN BIBLEDOUAI-RHEIMS
Wisdom has built her house, she has set up her seven columns;1 Wisdom hath built herself a house, she hath hewn her out seven pillars.
She has dressed her meat, mixed her wine, yes, she has spread her table.2 She hath slain her victims, mingled her wine, and set forth her table.
She has sent out her maidens; she calls from the heights out over the city:3 She hath sent her maids to invite to the tower, and to the walls of the city:
"Let whoever is simple turn in here; to him who lacks understanding, I say,4 Whosoever is a little one, let him come to me. And to the unwise she said:
Come, eat of my food, and drink of the wine I have mixed!5 Come, eat my bread, and drink the wine which I have mingled for you.
Forsake foolishness that you may live; advance in the way of understanding.6 Forsake childishness, and live, and walk by the ways of prudence.
He who corrects an arrogant man earns insult; and he who reproves a wicked man incurs opprobrium.7 He that teacheth a scorner, doth an injury to himself: and he that rebuketh a wicked man, getteth himself a blot.
Reprove not an arrogant man, lest he hate you; reprove a wise man, and he will love you.8 Rebuke not a scorner lest he hate thee. Rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.
Instruct a wise man, and he becomes still wiser; teach a just man, and he advances in learning.9 Give an occasion to a wise man, and wisdom shall be added to him. Teach a just man, and he shall make haste to receive it.
The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the LORD, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is prudence.
For by me your days will be multiplied and the years of your life increased."11 For by me shall thy days be multiplied, and years of life shall be added to thee.
If you are wise, it is to your own advantage; and if you are arrogant, you alone shall bear it.12 If thou be wise, thou shalt be so to thyself: and if a scorner, thou alone shalt bear the evil.
The woman Folly is fickle, she is inane, and knows nothing.13 A foolish woman and clamorous, and full of allurements, and knowing nothing at all,
She sits at the door of her house upon a seat on the city heights,14 Sat at the door of her house, upon a seat, in a high place of the city,
Calling to passers-by as they go on their straight way:15 To call them that pass by the way, and go on their journey:
"Let whoever is simple turn in here, or who lacks understanding; for to him I say,16 He that is a little one, let him turn to me. And to the fool she said:
Stolen water is sweet, and bread gotten secretly is pleasing!"17 Stolen waters are sweeter, and hid den bread is more pleasant.
Little he knows that the shades are there, that in the depths of the nether world are her guests!18 And he did not know that giants are there, and that her guests are in the depths of hell. The Parables of Solomon
