NEW AMERICAN BIBLELXX
False scales are an abomination to the LORD, but a full weight is his delight.1 ζυγοι δολιοι βδελυγμα ενωπιον κυριου σταθμιον δε δικαιον δεκτον αυτω
When pride comes, disgrace comes; but with the humble is wisdom.2 ου εαν εισελθη υβρις εκει και ατιμια στομα δε ταπεινων μελετα σοφιαν
The honesty of the upright guides them; the faithless are ruined by their duplicity.3 αποθανων δικαιος ελιπεν μεταμελον προχειρος δε γινεται και επιχαρτος ασεβων απωλεια
Wealth is useless on the day of wrath, but virtue saves from death.4 -
The honest man's virtue makes his way straight, but by his wickedness the wicked man falls.5 δικαιοσυνη αμωμους ορθοτομει οδους ασεβεια δε περιπιπτει αδικια
The virtue of the upright saves them, but the faithless are caught in their own intrigue.6 δικαιοσυνη ανδρων ορθων ρυεται αυτους τη δε απωλεια αυτων αλισκονται παρανομοι
When a wicked man dies his hope perishes, and what is expected from strength comes to nought.7 τελευτησαντος ανδρος δικαιου ουκ ολλυται ελπις το δε καυχημα των ασεβων ολλυται
The just man escapes trouble, and the wicked man falls into it in his stead.8 δικαιος εκ θηρας εκδυνει αντ' αυτου δε παραδιδοται ο ασεβης
With his mouth the impious man would ruin his neighbor, but through their knowledge the just make their escape.9 εν στοματι ασεβων παγις πολιταις αισθησις δε δικαιων ευοδος
When the just prosper, the city rejoices; and when the wicked perish, there is jubilation.10 εν αγαθοις δικαιων κατωρθωσεν πολις
Through the blessing of the righteous the city is exalted, but through the mouth of the wicked it is overthrown.11 στομασιν δε ασεβων κατεσκαφη
He who reviles his neighbor has no sense, but the intelligent man keeps silent.12 μυκτηριζει πολιτας ενδεης φρενων ανηρ δε φρονιμος ησυχιαν αγει
A newsmonger reveals secrets, but a trustworthy man keeps a confidence.13 ανηρ διγλωσσος αποκαλυπτει βουλας εν συνεδριω πιστος δε πνοη κρυπτει πραγματα
For lack of guidance a people falls; security lies in many counselors.14 οις μη υπαρχει κυβερνησις πιπτουσιν ωσπερ φυλλα σωτηρια δε υπαρχει εν πολλη βουλη
He is in a bad way who becomes surety for another, but he who hates giving pledges is safe.15 πονηρος κακοποιει οταν συμμειξη δικαιω μισει δε ηχον ασφαλειας
A gracious woman wins esteem, but she who hates virtue is covered with shame. (The slothful become impoverished, but the diligent gain wealth.)16 γυνη ευχαριστος εγειρει ανδρι δοξαν θρονος δε ατιμιας γυνη μισουσα δικαια πλουτου οκνηροι ενδεεις γινονται οι δε ανδρειοι ερειδονται πλουτω
A kindly man benefits himself, but a merciless man harms himself.17 τη ψυχη αυτου αγαθον ποιει ανηρ ελεημων εξολλυει δε αυτου σωμα ο ανελεημων
The wicked man makes empty profits, but he who sows virture has a sure reward.18 ασεβης ποιει εργα αδικα σπερμα δε δικαιων μισθος αληθειας
Virtue directs toward life, but he who pursues evil does so to his death.19 υιος δικαιος γενναται εις ζωην διωγμος δε ασεβους εις θανατον
The depraved in heart are an abomination to the LORD, but those who walk blamelessly are his delight.20 βδελυγμα κυριω διεστραμμεναι οδοι προσδεκτοι δε αυτω παντες αμωμοι εν ταις οδοις αυτων
Truly the evil man shall not go unpunished, but those who are just shall escape.21 χειρι χειρας εμβαλων αδικως ουκ ατιμωρητος εσται ο δε σπειρων δικαιοσυνην λημψεται μισθον πιστον
Like a golden ring in a swine's snout is a beautiful woman with a rebellious disposition.22 ωσπερ ενωτιον εν ρινι υος ουτως γυναικι κακοφρονι καλλος
The desire of the just ends only in good; the expectation of the wicked is wrath.23 επιθυμια δικαιων πασα αγαθη ελπις δε ασεβων απολειται
One man is lavish yet grows still richer; another is too sparing, yet is the poorer.24 εισιν οι τα ιδια σπειροντες πλειονα ποιουσιν εισιν και οι συναγοντες ελαττονουνται
He who confers benefits will be amply enriched, and he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.25 ψυχη ευλογουμενη πασα απλη ανηρ δε θυμωδης ουκ ευσχημων
Him who monopolizes grain, the people curse-- but blessings upon the head of him who distributes it!26 ο συνεχων σιτον υπολιποιτο αυτον τοις εθνεσιν ευλογια δε εις κεφαλην του μεταδιδοντος
He who seeks the good commands favor, but he who pursues evil will have evil befall him.27 τεκταινομενος αγαθα ζητει χαριν αγαθην εκζητουντα δε κακα καταλημψεται αυτον
He who trusts in his riches will fall, but like green leaves the just flourish.28 ο πεποιθως επι πλουτω ουτος πεσειται ο δε αντιλαμβανομενος δικαιων ουτος ανατελει
He who upsets his household has empty air for a heritage; and the fool will become slave to the wise man.29 ο μη συμπεριφερομενος τω εαυτου οικω κληρονομησει ανεμον δουλευσει δε αφρων φρονιμω
The fruit of virtue is a tree of life, but violence takes lives away.30 εκ καρπου δικαιοσυνης φυεται δενδρον ζωης αφαιρουνται δε αωροι ψυχαι παρανομων
If the just man is punished on earth, how much more the wicked and the sinner!31 ει ο μεν δικαιος μολις σωζεται ο ασεβης και αμαρτωλος που φανειται
