Psalms 137

1 By the rivers of Babylon we sat mourning and weeping when we remembered Zion.	1 (Di David). Te celebrerò, o Signore, con tutto il mio cuore, perchè hai ascoltate le parole della mia bocca. Al cospetto degli angeli salmeggerò in tuo onore;
2 On the poplars of that land we hung up our harps.	2 Adorerò volto al tuo santuario, e celebrerò il tuo nome, per la tua misericordia e per la tua fedeltà, perchè tu hai reso grande sopra ogni altra cosa il tuo nome.
3 There our captors asked us for the words of a song; Our tormentors, for a joyful song: "Sing for us a song of Zion!"	3 In qualunque giorno t'invocai, m'esaudisti: moltiplicasti il vigore dell'anima mia.
4 But how could we sing a song of the LORD in a foreign land?	4 Te celebrino, o Signore, tutti i re della terra, perchè hanno sentite tutte le parole della tua bocca.
5 If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand wither.	5 E cantino le vie del Signore, perchè grande è la gloria del Signore.
6 May my tongue stick to my palate if I do not remember you, If I do not exalt Jerusalem beyond all my delights.	6 Il Signore è sublime, ma riguarda gli umili, e i superbi li conosce da lontano.
7 Remember, LORD, against Edom that day at Jerusalem. They said: "Level it, level it down to its foundations!"	7 Se io avrò da camminare tra le tribolazioni tu mi conforterai; contro il furore dei miei nemici tu stendi la tua mano, e la tua destra mi salva.
8 Fair Babylon, you destroyer, happy those who pay you back the evil you have done us!	8 Il Signore agirà in favor mio. O Signore, la tua misericordia è eterna: non abbandonare l'opera delle tue mani!
9 Happy those who seize your children and smash them against a rock.
