1 By the rivers of Babylon we sat mourning and weeping when we remembered Zion.	1 Lungo i fiumi di Babilonia,là sedevamo e piangevamoricordandoci di Sion.
2 On the poplars of that land we hung up our harps.	2 Ai salici di quella terraappendemmo le nostre cetre,
3 There our captors asked us for the words of a song; Our tormentors, for a joyful song: "Sing for us a song of Zion!"	3 perché là ci chiedevano parole di cantocoloro che ci avevano deportato,allegre canzoni, i nostri oppressori:«Cantateci canti di Sion!».
4 But how could we sing a song of the LORD in a foreign land?	4 Come cantare i canti del Signorein terra straniera?
5 If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand wither.	5 Se mi dimentico di te, Gerusalemme,si dimentichi di me la mia destra;
6 May my tongue stick to my palate if I do not remember you, If I do not exalt Jerusalem beyond all my delights.	6 mi si attacchi la lingua al palatose lascio cadere il tuo ricordo,se non innalzo Gerusalemmeal di sopra di ogni mia gioia.
7 Remember, LORD, against Edom that day at Jerusalem. They said: "Level it, level it down to its foundations!"	7 Ricòrdati, Signore, dei figli di Edom,che, nel giorno di Gerusalemme,dicevano: «Spogliatela, spogliatelafino alle sue fondamenta!».
8 Fair Babylon, you destroyer, happy those who pay you back the evil you have done us!	8 Figlia di Babilonia devastatrice,beato chi ti renderà quanto ci hai fatto.
9 Happy those who seize your children and smash them against a rock.	9 Beato chi afferrerà i tuoi piccolie li sfracellerà contro la pietra.
