Psalms 137

1 By the rivers of Babylon we sat mourning and weeping when we remembered Zion.	1 Lungo i fiumi di Babilonia là sedevamo in pianto, ricordandoci di Sion.
2 On the poplars of that land we hung up our harps.	2 Sospese ai pioppi di quella terra tenevamo le nostre cetre.
3 There our captors asked us for the words of a song; Our tormentors, for a joyful song: "Sing for us a song of Zion!"	3 Sì, là ci chiesero parole di canto quelli che ci avevano deportati, canzoni di giubilo quelli che ci tenevano oppressi: "Cantateci dei canti di Sion".
4 But how could we sing a song of the LORD in a foreign land?	4 Come cantare i canti del Signore in terra straniera?
5 If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand wither.	5 Se mi dimenticassi di te, Gerusalemme, s'inaridisca la mia destra;
6 May my tongue stick to my palate if I do not remember you, If I do not exalt Jerusalem beyond all my delights.	6 s'attacchi al palato la mia lingua, se non mi ricordassi di te; se non ponessi Gerusalemme al di sopra di ogni mia gioia.
7 Remember, LORD, against Edom that day at Jerusalem. They said: "Level it, level it down to its foundations!"	7 Ricòrdati, Signore, contro i figli di Edom, che nel giorno di Gerusalemme dicevano: "Radete, radete al suolo, fin dalle fondamenta!".
8 Fair Babylon, you destroyer, happy those who pay you back the evil you have done us!	8 Figlia di Babilonia, votata alla distruzione: beato chi ti ricambierà quanto hai fatto a noi!
9 Happy those who seize your children and smash them against a rock.	9 Beato chi prenderà i tuoi piccoli e li sbatterà contro la roccia!
