1 Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother, named Jehoaddan, was from Jerusalem.	1 Amasias tinha vinte e cinco anos quando começou a reinar. Reinou durante vinte e nove anos em Jerusalém. Sua mãe chamava-se Joadá, e era de Jerusalém.
2 He did what was pleasing in the sight of the LORD, though not wholeheartedly.	2 Fez o bem aos olhos do Senhor, mas não com um coração inteiramente devotado.
3 After he had strengthened his hold on the kingdom, he slew those of his servants who had killed the king, his father;	3 Desde que se sentiu seguro de seu poder real, mandou matar aqueles servos que tinham assassinado o rei, seu pai.
4 but he did not put their children to death, for he acted according to what is written in the law, in the Book of Moses, as the LORD commanded: "Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children for their fathers; but only for his own guilt shall a man be put to death."	4 Mas não mandou matar os filhos deles, conforme o que está escrito no livro da lei de Moisés, onde o Senhor ordena: Os país não serão mortos por seus filhos, nem os filhos por seus pais: cada um morrerá por seu próprio pecado.
5 Amaziah mustered Judah and placed them, out of all Judah and Benjamin according to their ancestral houses, under leaders of thousands and of hundreds. When he had counted those of twenty years and over, he found them to be three hundred thousand picked men fit for war, capable of handling lance and shield.	5 Amasias reuniu os homens de Judá e os dividiu por famílias com os chefes de milhares e os chefes de centenas, para todo o Judá e todo o Benjamim. 6 He also hired a hundred thousand valiant warriors from Israel for a hundred talents of silver.	6 Em seguida, recrutou ao seu soldo por cem talentos de prata, cem mil valentes guerreiros de Israel.
7 But a man of God came to him and said: "O king, let not the army of Israel go with you, for the LORD is not with Israel, with any Ephraimite.	7 Mas um homem de Deus veio-lhe ao encontro. 8 Instead, go on your own, strongly prepared for the conflict; otherwise the LORD will defeat you in the face of the enemy. It is God who has the power to reinforce or to defeat."	8 Vai sozinho; age e sê valente no combate; de outra forma Deus te deixará cair diante do inimigo, pois ele tem o poder de socorrer ou de abater."
9 Amaziah answered the man of God, "But what is to be done about the hundred talents that I paid for the troops of Israel?" The man of God replied, "The LORD can give you much more than that."	9 Disse Amasias ao homem de Deus: "Mas que farei então com respeito aos cem talentos que dei às tropas israelitas?" - O Senhor respondeu o homem de Deus, tem para dar-te mais do que isso."
10 Amaziah then disbanded the troops that had come to him from Ephraim, and sent them home. They, however, became furiously angry with Judah, and returned home blazing with resentment.	10 Amasias licenciou, pois, e enviou de volta para a sua terra a tropa de efraimitas que tinha vindo a ele. Mas apoderou-se deles uma viva irritação contra Judá e eles retomaram furiosos para as suas casas.
11 Amaziah now assumed command of his army. They proceeded to the Valley of Salt, and there they killed ten thousand men of Seir.	11 Amasias, cheio de confiança, foi com seu exército para o vale do Sal, onde ?matou dez mil seiritas.
12 The Judahites also brought back another ten thousand alive, whom they led to the summit of the Rock and then cast down, so that they were all crushed.	12 Os filhos de Judá tinham capturado dez mil homens vivos; conduziram-nos ao alto de um rochedo, de onde os precipitaram, e todos ficaram despedaçados.
13 Meanwhile, the mercenaries whom Amaziah had dismissed from battle service with him raided the cities of Judah from Samaria to Beth-horon. They killed three thousand of the inhabitants and took away much booty.	13 Entretanto, os homens da tropa que Amasias tinha licenciado, não os deixando ir para a guerra com ele, saquearam as cidades de Judá desde Samaria até Betoron. Mataram três mil homens e levaram um considerável despojo.
14 When Amaziah returned from his conquest of the Edomites he brought back with him the gods of the people of Seir, which he set up as his own gods; he bowed down before them and offered sacrifice to them.	14 Tendo voltado para casal depois da derrota dos edomitas, Amasias, que tinha trazido os deuses dos seiritas, fez deles seus próprios deuses; prostrou-se diante deles, queimando-lhes incenso.
15 Then the anger of the LORD blazed out against Amaziah, and he sent a prophet to him who said: "Why have you had recourse to this people's gods that could not save their own people from your hand?"	15 Inflamou-se por isso a ira do Senhor contra ele; enviou-lhe um profeta, que lhe disse: "Por que foste procurar esses deuses estranhos, que não foram capazes de salvar seu povo de tua mão?"
16 While he was still speaking, however, the king said to him: "Have you been made the king's counselor? Be silent! Why should it be necessary to kill you?" Therefore the prophet desisted. "I know, however," he said, "that God has let you take counsel to your own destruction, because you have done this thing and have refused to hear my counsel."	16 Enquanto lhe falava o profeta, Amasias lhe disse: "Foste tu nomeado conselheiro cio rei? Vai-te embora, se não queres que eu te mate!" O profeta retirou-se, dizendo: "Sei que Deus decretou tua perda, porque te portaste mal e não queres ouvir minha advertência."
17 Having taken counsel, King Amaziah of Judah sent messengers to Joash, son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, the king of Israel, saying, "Come, let us meet each other face to face."	17 Houve um conselho, depois do qual Amasias mandou dizer a Joás, filho de Joacaz, filho de Jeú, rei de Israel: "Vem, para que nos vejamos face a face." Joás, rei de Israel, mandou responder a Amasias, rei de Judá:
18 King Joash of Israel sent this reply to King Amaziah of Judah: "The thistle of the Lebanon sent a message to the cedar of the Lebanon, saying, 'Give your daughter to my son for his wife.' But the wild beasts of the Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle down.	18 "O espinho do Líbano mandou dizer ao cedro do Líbano: Dá tua filha por esposa a meu filho. Mas os animais selvagens do Líbano passaram e pisaram o espinho.
19 You are thinking, 'See, I have beaten Edom!', and thus ambition makes you proud. Remain at home. Why involve yourself, and Judah with you, in misfortune and failure?"	19 Dizes que derrotaste os edomitas, e teu coração se enche de orgulho. Vamos! Fica em casa. Por que correres tu à frente do perigo, arriscando-te a uma empresa que te perderá a ti e Judá contigo?"
20 But Amaziah would not listen, for God had determined to hand them over because they had had recourse to the gods of Edom.	20 Mas Amasias nada quis ouvir. Era o efeito de uma disposição divina, a fim de que fossem entregues a seus inimigos, eles que tinham adorado os deuses de Edoin.
21 Therefore King Joash of Israel advanced and he and King Amaziah met in battle at Beth-shemesh of Judah.	21 Joás, rei de Israel, pôs-se a caminho; encontraram-se ele e Amasias, rei de Judá, em Betsames, que está em Judá.
22 There Judah was defeated by Israel, and all the Judean soldiers fled homeward.	22 Judá foi vencido por Israel, e cada um fugiu para sua tenda.
23 King Joash of Israel captured Amaziah, king of Judah, son of Joash, son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh and brought him to Jerusalem. Then he tore down the wall of Jerusalem from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate, a distance of four hundred cubits.	23 Joás, rei de Israel, aprisionou, em Betsames, Amasias, rei de Judá, filho de Joás, filho de Ocozias. Mandou-o para Jerusalém e abriu na muralha uma brecha de quatrocentos côvados, desde a porta de Efraim até a porta do ângulo.
24 He took away all the gold and silver and all the vessels he found in the house of God with Obed-edom, together with the treasures of the palace, and hostages as well. Then he returned to Samaria.	24 Apoderou-se de todo o ouro e prata, assim como dos utensílios que se encontravam no templo, em casa de Obededom e nos tesouros do palácio real; e retornou a Samaria, levando reféns.
25 Amaziah, son of Joash, king of Judah, survived Joash, son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, by fifteen years.	25 Amasias, filho de Joás, rei de Judá, viveu ainda quinze anos depois da morte de Joás, filho de Joacaz, rei de Israel.
26 The rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, can be found written, as is well known, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.	26 O resto dos atos de Amasias, dos primeiros aos últimos, está relatado no livro dos reis de Judá e de Israel.
27 Now from the time that Amaziah ceased to follow the LORD, a conspiracy was formed against him in Jerusalem; hence he fled to Lachish. But they pursued him to Lachish and put him to death there.	27 Depois que Amasias se desviou do Senhor, tramou-se contra ele em Jerusalém uma conspiração, e ele fugiu para Laquis. Perseguiram-no, porém, até lá e o mataram.
28 They brought him back on horses and buried him with his ancestors in the City of Judah.	28 Transportaram-lhe o corpo em cima de cavalos, e sepultaram-no com seus pais na cidade de Judá.
