1 Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother, named Jehoaddan, was from Jerusalem.	1 Amazja war fünfundzwanzig Jahre alt, als er König wurde, und regierte neunundzwanzig Jahre in Jerusalem. Seine Mutter hieß Joaddan und stammte aus Jerusalem.
2 He did what was pleasing in the sight of the LORD, though not wholeheartedly.	2 Er tat, was dem Herrn gefiel, wenn auch nicht mit ungeteiltem Herzen.
3 After he had strengthened his hold on the kingdom, he slew those of his servants who had killed the king, his father;	3 Sobald die Herrschaft fest in seiner Hand war, ließ er die Diener hinrichten, die seinen Vater, den König, erschlagen hatten.
4 but he did not put their children to death, for he acted according to what is written in the law, in the Book of Moses, as the LORD commanded: "Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children for their fathers; but only for his own guilt shall a man be put to death."	4 Ihre Söhne aber verschonte er, wie es im Gesetz, im Buch des Mose, geschrieben steht, wo der Herr geboten hat: Die Väter sollen nicht für ihre Söhne und die Söhne nicht für ihre Väter mit dem Tod bestraft werden, sondern jeder soll nur für sein eigenes Verbrechen sterben.
5 Amaziah mustered Judah and placed them, out of all Judah and Benjamin according to their ancestral houses, under leaders of thousands and of hundreds. When he had counted those of twenty years and over, he found them to be three hundred thousand picked men fit for war, capable of handling lance and shield.	5 Amazja versammelte die Judäer aus ganz Juda und Benjamin und stellte sie nach Großfamilien unter den Führern der Tausend- und Hundertschaften auf. Er ließ alle, die zwanzig Jahre und darüber waren, mustern. Ihre Zählung ergab dreihunderttausend auserlesene, wehrfähige Männer, die Lanze und Schild trugen.
6 He also hired a hundred thousand valiant warriors from Israel for a hundred talents of silver.	6 Dazu ließ er in Israel hunderttausend tapfere Krieger um hundert Silbertalente anwerben.
7 But a man of God came to him and said: "O king, let not the army of Israel go with you, for the LORD is not with Israel, with any Ephraimite.	7 Doch ein Gottesmann kam zu ihm und sagte: Das Heer Israels, o König, soll nicht mit dir ziehen; denn der Herr ist nicht mit Israel, er hilft keinem Efraimiter.
8 Instead, go on your own, strongly prepared for the conflict; otherwise the LORD will defeat you in the face of the enemy. It is God who has the power to reinforce or to defeat."	8 Rück vielmehr allein aus und nimm mutig und entschlossen den Kampf auf! Gott könnte dich sonst vor dem Feind zu Fall bringen; denn Gott hat die Macht, zu helfen oder zu stürzen.
9 Amaziah answered the man of God, "But what is to be done about the hundred talents that I paid for the troops of Israel?" The man of God replied, "The LORD can give you much more than that."	9 Amazja erwiderte dem Gottesmann: Wozu habe ich dann den israelitischen Söldnerscharen hundert Talente gegeben? Der Gottesmann antwortete: Der Herr kann dir viel mehr als diese geben.
10 Amaziah then disbanded the troops that had come to him from Ephraim, and sent them home. They, however, became furiously angry with Judah, and returned home blazing with resentment.	10 Da schied Amazja die Truppe, die aus Efraim zu ihm gekommen war, aus und ließ sie in ihre Heimat zurückkehren. Sie geriet deswegen in heftigen Zorn über Juda und zog grollend in ihr Land zurück.
11 Amaziah now assumed command of his army. They proceeded to the Valley of Salt, and there they killed ten thousand men of Seir.	11 Amazja aber fasste Mut und führte sein Volk in den Krieg. Er zog in das Salztal und erschlug von den Seïritern zehntausend Mann.
12 The Judahites also brought back another ten thousand alive, whom they led to the summit of the Rock and then cast down, so that they were all crushed.	12 Zehntausend nahmen die Judäer lebend gefangen, führten sie auf die Höhe eines Felsens und stürzten sie hinab, sodass alle zerschmettert wurden.
13 Meanwhile, the mercenaries whom Amaziah had dismissed from battle service with him raided the cities of Judah from Samaria to Beth-horon. They killed three thousand of the inhabitants and took away much booty.	13 Die Angehörigen der Söldnertruppe aber, die Amazja zurückgeschickt und am Kriegszug nicht hatte teilnehmen lassen, überfielen die Städte Judas zwischen Samaria und Bet-Horon, erschlugen dort dreitausend Mann und machten reiche Beute.
14 When Amaziah returned from his conquest of the Edomites he brought back with him the gods of the people of Seir, which he set up as his own gods; he bowed down before them and offered sacrifice to them.	14 Nach der Rückkehr vom Sieg über die Edomiter stellte Amazja die Götter der Seïriter, die er mitgebracht hatte, als Götter für sich auf, fiel vor ihnen nieder und brachte ihnen Opfer dar.
15 Then the anger of the LORD blazed out against Amaziah, and he sent a prophet to him who said: "Why have you had recourse to this people's gods that could not save their own people from your hand?"	15 Da entbrannte der Zorn des Herrn gegen Amazja. Er sandte einen Propheten zu ihm und ließ ihm sagen: Warum suchst du die Götter des Volkes, die ihr Volk aus deiner Hand nicht retten konnten?
16 While he was still speaking, however, the king said to him: "Have you been made the king's counselor? Be silent! Why should it be necessary to kill you?" Therefore the prophet desisted. "I know, however," he said, "that God has let you take counsel to your own destruction, because you have done this thing and have refused to hear my counsel."	16 Amazja fiel ihm ins Wort und rief: Haben wir dich zum Berater des Königs bestellt? Halt ein! Warum soll man dich schlagen? Da hielt der Prophet inne und sagte: Ich weiß, dass Gott dein Verderben plant, weil du das getan und auf meinen Rat nicht gehört hast.
17 Having taken counsel, King Amaziah of Judah sent messengers to Joash, son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, the king of Israel, saying, "Come, let us meet each other face to face."	17 Nach einer Beratung sandte Amazja, der König von Juda, Boten an Joasch, den Sohn des Joahas, des Sohnes Jehus, den König von Israel, und ließ ihm sagen: Komm, wir wollen (im Kampf) einander gegenübertreten.
18 King Joash of Israel sent this reply to King Amaziah of Judah: "The thistle of the Lebanon sent a message to the cedar of the Lebanon, saying, 'Give your daughter to my son for his wife.' But the wild beasts of the Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle down.	18 Doch Joasch, der König von Israel, ließ dem König Amazja von Juda sagen: Der Dornstrauch auf dem Libanon ließ der Zeder auf dem Libanon sagen: Gib deine Tochter meinem Sohn zur Frau! Aber die Tiere des Libanon liefen über den Dornstrauch und zertraten ihn.
19 You are thinking, 'See, I have beaten Edom!', and thus ambition makes you proud. Remain at home. Why involve yourself, and Judah with you, in misfortune and failure?"	19 Du denkst: Ich habe Edom besiegt!, und bist übermütig geworden. Wahre jetzt deinen Ruhm und bleib zu Hause! Wozu willst du das Unglück herausfordern und zu Fall kommen, du und Juda mit dir?
20 But Amaziah would not listen, for God had determined to hand them over because they had had recourse to the gods of Edom.	20 Doch Amazja wollte nicht hören; denn Gott hatte es so bestimmt, um sie ihren Feinden preiszugeben, weil sie die Götter der Edomiter suchten.
21 Therefore King Joash of Israel advanced and he and King Amaziah met in battle at Beth-shemesh of Judah.	21 Joasch, der König von Israel, rückte daraufhin aus. Er und Amazja, der König von Juda, traten bei Bet- Schemesch, das zu Juda gehört, einander gegenüber.
22 There Judah was defeated by Israel, and all the Judean soldiers fled homeward.	22 Die Judäer wurden von den Israeliten geschlagen und flohen zu ihren Zelten.
23 King Joash of Israel captured Amaziah, king of Judah, son of Joash, son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh and brought him to Jerusalem. Then he tore down the wall of Jerusalem from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate, a distance of four hundred cubits.	23 Den König Amazja von Juda, den Sohn des Joasch, des Sohnes des Joahas, nahm König Joasch von Israel bei Bet- Schemesch gefangen und brachte ihn nach Jerusalem. Dort riss er die Mauer der Stadt vom Efraimtor bis zum Ecktor auf einer Strecke von vierhundert Ellen nieder,
24 He took away all the gold and silver and all the vessels he found in the house of God with Obed-edom, together with the treasures of the palace, and hostages as well. Then he returned to Samaria.	24 nahm alles Gold und Silber sowie alle Geräte, die sich im Haus Gottes bei Obed-Edom befanden, samt den Schätzen des königlichen Palastes, ließ sich Geiseln stellen und kehrte nach Samaria zurück.
25 Amaziah, son of Joash, king of Judah, survived Joash, son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, by fifteen years.	25 Amazja, der Sohn des Joasch, der König von Juda, lebte nach dem Tod des Joasch, des Sohnes des Joahas, des Königs von Israel, noch fünfzehn Jahre.
26 The rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, can be found written, as is well known, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.	26 Die übrige Geschichte Amazjas, die frühere und die spätere, ist aufgezeichnet im Buch der Könige von Juda und Israel.
27 Now from the time that Amaziah ceased to follow the LORD, a conspiracy was formed against him in Jerusalem; hence he fled to Lachish. But they pursued him to Lachish and put him to death there.	27 Zur Zeit, da Amazja sich vom Herrn abwandte, bildete sich in Jerusalem gegen ihn eine Verschwörung. Er floh nach Lachisch; aber man sandte Verfolger hinter ihm her nach Lachisch, die ihn dort erschlugen.
