1 Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother, named Jehoaddan, was from Jerusalem.	1 Veinticinco años tenía Amasías cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó veintinueve años en Jerusalén. Su madre se llamaba Yehoaddán, de Jerusalén.
2 He did what was pleasing in the sight of the LORD, though not wholeheartedly.	2 Hizo lo recto a los ojos de Yahveh, aunque no de todo corazón.
3 After he had strengthened his hold on the kingdom, he slew those of his servants who had killed the king, his father;	3 Cuando se afianzó en su reinado, dio muerte a los servidores que habían matado al rey su padre.
4 but he did not put their children to death, for he acted according to what is written in the law, in the Book of Moses, as the LORD commanded: "Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children for their fathers; but only for his own guilt shall a man be put to death."	4 Pero no hizo morir a los hijos de ellos, conforme a lo escrito en la Ley, en el libro de Moisés, donde Yahveh tenía prescrito: «No han de morir los padres por los hijos ni los hijos han de morir por los padres, sino que cada uno morirá por su propio pecado».
5 Amaziah mustered Judah and placed them, out of all Judah and Benjamin according to their ancestral houses, under leaders of thousands and of hundreds. When he had counted those of twenty years and over, he found them to be three hundred thousand picked men fit for war, capable of handling lance and shield.	5 Amasías congregó a Judá y estableció por todo Judá y Benjamín, según las casas paternas, jefes de millar y jefes de cien; hizo el censo de ellos, desde los veinte años para arriba, y halló 300.000 hombres escogidos, aptos para la guerra y el manejo de lanza y pavés.
6 He also hired a hundred thousand valiant warriors from Israel for a hundred talents of silver.	6 Tomó también a sueldo en Israel, por cien talentos de plata, a 100.000 hombres valientes.
7 But a man of God came to him and said: "O king, let not the army of Israel go with you, for the LORD is not with Israel, with any Ephraimite.	7 Pero vino donde él un hombre de Dios que le dijo: «Oh rey, que no salga contigo el ejército de Israel, porque Yahveh no está con Israel, ni con ninguno de los efraimitas.
8 Instead, go on your own, strongly prepared for the conflict; otherwise the LORD will defeat you in the face of the enemy. It is God who has the power to reinforce or to defeat."	8 Si vienen contigo, tú te portarás esforzadamente en la batalla, pero Dios te hará caer ante el enemigo, porque Dios tiene poder para ayudar y para derribar».
9 Amaziah answered the man of God, "But what is to be done about the hundred talents that I paid for the troops of Israel?" The man of God replied, "The LORD can give you much more than that."	9 Respondió Amasías al hombre de Dios: «¿Y qué hacer con los cien talentos que he dado a la tropa de Israel?» Contestó el hombre de Dios: «Tiene Yahveh poder para darte mucho más que eso».
10 Amaziah then disbanded the troops that had come to him from Ephraim, and sent them home. They, however, became furiously angry with Judah, and returned home blazing with resentment.	10 Y Amasías apartó los destacamentos que le habían venido de Efraím, para que se volviesen a sus lugares. Ellos se irritaron mucho contra Judá y se volvieron a sus casas ardiendo en cólera.
11 Amaziah now assumed command of his army. They proceeded to the Valley of Salt, and there they killed ten thousand men of Seir.	11 Amasías cobró ánimo y, tomando el mando de su pueblo, marchó al valle de la Sal, y dio muerte a 10.000 hombres de los seiríes.
12 The Judahites also brought back another ten thousand alive, whom they led to the summit of the Rock and then cast down, so that they were all crushed.	12 Los hijos de Judá apresaron vivos a otros 10.000 y, llevándolos a la cumbre de la peña, los precipitaron desde allí, quedando todos ellos reventados.
13 Meanwhile, the mercenaries whom Amaziah had dismissed from battle service with him raided the cities of Judah from Samaria to Beth-horon. They killed three thousand of the inhabitants and took away much booty.	13 Entretanto, la tropa que Amasías había hecho volver, para que no fuesen con él a la guerra, se desparramaron por las ciudades de Judá, desde Samaría hasta Bet Jorón, pero fueron derrotados 3.000 de ellos y se recogió mucho botín.
14 When Amaziah returned from his conquest of the Edomites he brought back with him the gods of the people of Seir, which he set up as his own gods; he bowed down before them and offered sacrifice to them.	14 Después de regresar Amasías de su victoria sobre los edomitas, introdujo los dioses de los seiríes; eligió los dioses de ellos, postróse ante ellos y les quemó incienso.
15 Then the anger of the LORD blazed out against Amaziah, and he sent a prophet to him who said: "Why have you had recourse to this people's gods that could not save their own people from your hand?"	15 Se encendió la ira de Yahveh contra Amasías y le envió un profeta, que le dijo: «¿Por qué has buscado a los dioses de ese pueblo, que no han podido librar de tu mano a su propia gente?»
16 While he was still speaking, however, the king said to him: "Have you been made the king's counselor? Be silent! Why should it be necessary to kill you?" Therefore the prophet desisted. "I know, however," he said, "that God has let you take counsel to your own destruction, because you have done this thing and have refused to hear my counsel."	16 Mientras él le hablaba, Amasías le interrumpió: «¿Acaso te hemos hecho consejero del rey? ¡Cállate! ¿Por qué te han de matar?» El profeta concluyó diciendo: «Yo sé que Dios ha determinado destruirte, porque hiciste eso y no quieres escuchar mi consejo».
17 Having taken counsel, King Amaziah of Judah sent messengers to Joash, son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, the king of Israel, saying, "Come, let us meet each other face to face."	17 Amasías, rey de Judá, después de haber deliberado, envió mensajeros a Joás, hijo de Joacaz, hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel, para decirle: «¡Sube y nos veremos las caras!»
18 King Joash of Israel sent this reply to King Amaziah of Judah: "The thistle of the Lebanon sent a message to the cedar of the Lebanon, saying, 'Give your daughter to my son for his wife.' But the wild beasts of the Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle down.	18 Pero Joás, rey de Israel, mandó decir a Amasías, rey de Judá: «El cardo del Líbano mandó a decir al cedro del Líbano: Dame tu hija para mujer de mi hijo. Pero las bestias salvajes del Líbano pasaron y pisotearon el cardo.
19 You are thinking, 'See, I have beaten Edom!', and thus ambition makes you proud. Remain at home. Why involve yourself, and Judah with you, in misfortune and failure?"	19 Tú te dices: “He derrotado a Edom.” Por eso te lleva tu corazón a jactarte. Sé glorioso, pero quédate ahora en tu casa. ¿Por qué exponerte a una calamidad y a caer tú y Judá contigo?»
20 But Amaziah would not listen, for God had determined to hand them over because they had had recourse to the gods of Edom.	20 Pero Amasías no le escuchó, pues era disposición de Dios entregarlos en manos de sus enemigos, por haber buscado a los dioses de Edom.
21 Therefore King Joash of Israel advanced and he and King Amaziah met in battle at Beth-shemesh of Judah.	21 Subió Joás, rey de Israel, y se enfrentaron, él y Amasías, rey de Judá, en Bet Semes de Judá.
22 There Judah was defeated by Israel, and all the Judean soldiers fled homeward.	22 Judá fue derrotado por Israel y huyeron cada uno a su tienda.
23 King Joash of Israel captured Amaziah, king of Judah, son of Joash, son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh and brought him to Jerusalem. Then he tore down the wall of Jerusalem from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate, a distance of four hundred cubits.	23 Joás, rey de Israel, capturó a Amasías, rey de Judá, hijo de Joás, hijo de Ocozías, en Bet Semes y le llevó a Jerusalén; y abrió una brecha de cuatrocientos codos en la muralla de Jerusalén desde la puerta de Efraím hasta la puerta del Angulo.
24 He took away all the gold and silver and all the vessels he found in the house of God with Obed-edom, together with the treasures of the palace, and hostages as well. Then he returned to Samaria.	24 Tomó todo el oro y la plata y todos los objetos que se hallaban al cuidado de Obededom en la Casa de Dios, y los tesoros de la casa del rey, así como también rehenes, y se volvió a Samaría.
25 Amaziah, son of Joash, king of Judah, survived Joash, son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, by fifteen years.	25 Amasías, hijo de Joás, rey de Judá, sirvió quince años después de la muerte de Joás, hijo de Joacaz, rey de Israel.
26 The rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, can be found written, as is well known, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.	26 El resto de los hechos de Amasías, los primeros y los postreros, ¿no están escritos en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel?
27 Now from the time that Amaziah ceased to follow the LORD, a conspiracy was formed against him in Jerusalem; hence he fled to Lachish. But they pursued him to Lachish and put him to death there.	27 Después que Amasías se apartó de Yahveh, se conjuraron contra él en Jerusalén, por lo que huyó a Lakís; pero enviaron gente en su persecución hasta Lakís y allí lo mataron.
28 They brought him back on horses and buried him with his ancestors in the City of Judah.	28 Trajéronle a caballo y le sepultaron con sus padres en la Ciudad de David.
