1 Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother, named Jehoaddan, was from Jerusalem.	1 Venticinque anni aveva Amasia quando principiò a regnare, e ventinove anni regnò in Gerusalemme: sua madre ebbe nome Joadan, ed era di Gerusalemme.
2 He did what was pleasing in the sight of the LORD, though not wholeheartedly.	2 Ed egli fece il bene nel cospetto del Signore; ma non con cuore perfetto.
3 After he had strengthened his hold on the kingdom, he slew those of his servants who had killed the king, his father;	3 E quando vide assicurato il suo regno, fece scannare i servi, che avean ucciso il re suo padre.
4 but he did not put their children to death, for he acted according to what is written in the law, in the Book of Moses, as the LORD commanded: "Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children for their fathers; but only for his own guilt shall a man be put to death."	4 Ma non fece morire i loro figliuoli, conforme sta scritto nel libro della legge di Mosè, dove il Signore ordinò, e disse: Non saranno uccisi i padri pe' figliuoli, né i figliuoli pei padri loro: ciascheduno morrà pel suo proprio peccato.
5 Amaziah mustered Judah and placed them, out of all Judah and Benjamin according to their ancestral houses, under leaders of thousands and of hundreds. When he had counted those of twenty years and over, he found them to be three hundred thousand picked men fit for war, capable of handling lance and shield.	5 Amasia pertanto convocò Giuda, e li distribuì nelle sue famiglie, e diede dei tribuni, e dei centurioni a tutto il popol di Giuda, e di Benjamin: e ne fece il censo dai venti anni in su, e trovò trecento mila giovani atti alla guerra, armati di scudo, e di lancia.
6 He also hired a hundred thousand valiant warriors from Israel for a hundred talents of silver.	6 E assoldò ancora cento mila uomini valorosi d'Israele, pagando cento talenti di oro.
7 But a man of God came to him and said: "O king, let not the army of Israel go with you, for the LORD is not with Israel, with any Ephraimite.	7 Ma un uomo di Dio andò a lui, e gli disse: Non venga teco, o re, l'esercito d'Israele: perocché il Signore non è con Israele, né coi figliuoli di Ephraim.
8 Instead, go on your own, strongly prepared for the conflict; otherwise the LORD will defeat you in the face of the enemy. It is God who has the power to reinforce or to defeat."	8 Che se tu ti pensi, che tutto in guerra dipenda dalla forza dell'esercito, Dio farà, che tu sii vinto da' nemici: perocché in mano di Dio sta il dare aiuto, o mettere in fuga.
9 Amaziah answered the man of God, "But what is to be done about the hundred talents that I paid for the troops of Israel?" The man of God replied, "The LORD can give you much more than that."	9 E Amasia disse all'uom di Dio: E che sarà egli de' cento talenti dati da me ai soldati d'Israele? E l'uom di Dio gli rispose: Il Signore ha il modo di poterne rendere a te molti più.
10 Amaziah then disbanded the troops that had come to him from Ephraim, and sent them home. They, however, became furiously angry with Judah, and returned home blazing with resentment.	10 Allora Amasia separò l'esercito, che gli era venuto da Ephraim, affinchè se ne tornasse al suo paese. E questo sdegnati forte contro di Giuda se n'andarono a casa loro.
11 Amaziah now assumed command of his army. They proceeded to the Valley of Salt, and there they killed ten thousand men of Seir.	11 E Amasia con fidanza diede la mossa alle sue genti, e andò nella valle delle Saline, e sconfìsse i figliuoli di Seir in numero di dieci mila.
12 The Judahites also brought back another ten thousand alive, whom they led to the summit of the Rock and then cast down, so that they were all crushed.	12 E altri dieci mila uomini li fecero prigionieri i figliuoli di Giuda, e li condussero sopra un masso scosceso, e li precipitarono da quell'altura al basso, e tutti quanti si fracassarono.
13 Meanwhile, the mercenaries whom Amaziah had dismissed from battle service with him raided the cities of Judah from Samaria to Beth-horon. They killed three thousand of the inhabitants and took away much booty.	13 Ma quell' esercito licenziato da Amasia, per non condurlo seco alla guerra, si sparse per le città di Giuda da Samaria sino a Bethoron, e uccise tre mila persone, e portò via molta preda.
14 When Amaziah returned from his conquest of the Edomites he brought back with him the gods of the people of Seir, which he set up as his own gods; he bowed down before them and offered sacrifice to them.	14 Ma Amasia dopo la strage degl'Idumei, e dopo aver portato seco gli dei de' figliuoli di Seir, se gli fece suoi dei, e gli adorava, e bruciava loro degl'incensi.
15 Then the anger of the LORD blazed out against Amaziah, and he sent a prophet to him who said: "Why have you had recourse to this people's gods that could not save their own people from your hand?"	15 Per la qual cosa sdegnato il Signore contro di Amasia, mandò a lui un profeta, affinchè gli dicesse: Per qual motivo adori tu degli dei, i quali non salvarono il loro popolo dalle tue mani?
16 While he was still speaking, however, the king said to him: "Have you been made the king's counselor? Be silent! Why should it be necessary to kill you?" Therefore the prophet desisted. "I know, however," he said, "that God has let you take counsel to your own destruction, because you have done this thing and have refused to hear my counsel."	16 E mentre in tal guisa parlava a lui il profeta, egli rispose: Se' tu forse consigliere del re? Taci, che io non ti faccia morire. E il profeta partendo disse: Io so, che Dio ha risolto di farti perire per questo male, che hai fatto e perchè di più non hai dato retta a' miei consigli.
17 Having taken counsel, King Amaziah of Judah sent messengers to Joash, son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, the king of Israel, saying, "Come, let us meet each other face to face."	17 Or Amasia re di Giuda con pessimo consiglio mandò adire a Gioas figliuolo di Joachaz, figliuolo di Jehu, re d'Israele: Vieni, affinchè ci veggiamo tra noi.
18 King Joash of Israel sent this reply to King Amaziah of Judah: "The thistle of the Lebanon sent a message to the cedar of the Lebanon, saying, 'Give your daughter to my son for his wife.' But the wild beasts of the Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle down.	18 Ma questi rimandò i messi con dire: Il cardo, che è sul Libano, mandò a dire al cedro del Libano: Dà la tua figlia per moglie al mio figliuolo: ma ad un tratto le fiere, che erano nei boschi del Libano, in passando, calpestarono il cardo.
19 You are thinking, 'See, I have beaten Edom!', and thus ambition makes you proud. Remain at home. Why involve yourself, and Judah with you, in misfortune and failure?"	19 Tu hai detto: Io ho sconfitti gl'Idumei; e per questo il cuor tuo si è levato in superbia: stattene a sedere in casa tua: perchè ti cerchi tu dei malanni per andar per terra tu, e Giuda con teco?
20 But Amaziah would not listen, for God had determined to hand them over because they had had recourse to the gods of Edom.	20 Amasia non volle ascoltarlo, per chè era voler del Signore, ch'ei fosse dato in potere de suoi nemici a causa degli dei di Edom.
21 Therefore King Joash of Israel advanced and he and King Amaziah met in battle at Beth-shemesh of Judah.	21 Per la qual cosa Gioas re d'Israele si mosse, e vennero in presenza l'uno dell'altro. E Amasia re di Giuda era in Bethsames di Giuda:
22 There Judah was defeated by Israel, and all the Judean soldiers fled homeward.	22 E Giuda non potè stare a petto con Israele, e se ne fuggì alle sue tende.
23 King Joash of Israel captured Amaziah, king of Judah, son of Joash, son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh and brought him to Jerusalem. Then he tore down the wall of Jerusalem from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate, a distance of four hundred cubits.	23 E Amasia re di Giuda, figliuolo di Gioas, figliuolo di Joachaz, fu fatto prigioniere da Gioas re d'Israele, in Bethsames, e fu condotto da lui a Gerusalemme. E Gioas abbattè la muraglia (della città) dalla porta di Ephraim sino alla porta dell'angolo per quattrocento cubiti.
24 He took away all the gold and silver and all the vessels he found in the house of God with Obed-edom, together with the treasures of the palace, and hostages as well. Then he returned to Samaria.	24 E tutto l'oro, e l'argento, e tutti quanti i vasi, ch'ei trovò nella casa di Dio, e nelle stanze di Obededom, e anche nei tesori della casa reale li portò a Samaria, e anche i figliuoli degli ostaggi.
25 Amaziah, son of Joash, king of Judah, survived Joash, son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, by fifteen years.	25 Or Amasia figliuolo di Gioas, re di Giuda, visse quindici anni dopo la morte di Gioas figliuolo di Joachaz, re d'Israele.
26 The rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, can be found written, as is well known, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.	26 Il rimanente poi delle azioni di Amasia, le prime, e le ultime sono scritte nel libro dei re di Giuda, e d'Israele.
27 Now from the time that Amaziah ceased to follow the LORD, a conspiracy was formed against him in Jerusalem; hence he fled to Lachish. But they pursued him to Lachish and put him to death there.	27 E dopo che egli si fu allontanato dal Signore, fu ordita una congiura contro di lui in Gerusalemme. Ed essendo egli fuggito a Lachis, colà mandaron gente ad ucciderlo.
28 They brought him back on horses and buried him with his ancestors in the City of Judah.	28 E riportatolo sopra un cocchio, lo seppellirono co' padri suoi nella città di David.
