KING JAMES BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.1 Children, obey your parents (in the Lord), for this is right.
Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)2 "Honor your father and mother." This is the first commandment with a promise,
That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.3 "that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life on earth."
And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up with the training and instruction of the Lord.
Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;5 Slaves, be obedient to your human masters with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ,
Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;6 not only when being watched, as currying favor, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart,
With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:7 willingly serving the Lord and not human beings,
Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.8 knowing that each will be requited from the Lord for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.
And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.9 Masters, act in the same way toward them, and stop bullying, knowing that both they and you have a Master in heaven and that with him there is no partiality.
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.10 Finally, draw your strength from the Lord and from his mighty power.
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.11 Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.12 For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.13 Therefore, put on the armor of God, that you may be able to resist on the evil day and, having done everything, to hold your ground.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;14 So stand fast with your loins girded in truth, clothed with righteousness as a breastplate,
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;15 and your feet shod in readiness for the gospel of peace.
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.16 In all circumstances, hold faith as a shield, to quench all (the) flaming arrows of the evil one.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:17 And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;18 With all prayer and supplication, pray at every opportunity in the Spirit. To that end, be watchful with all perseverance and supplication for all the holy ones
And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,19 and also for me, that speech may be given me to open my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel
For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.20 for which I am an ambassador in chains, so that I may have the courage to speak as I must.
But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things:21 So that you also may have news of me and of what I am doing, Tychicus, my beloved brother and trustworthy minister in the Lord, will tell you everything.
Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts.22 I am sending him to you for this very purpose, so that you may know about us and that he may encourage your hearts.
Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.23 Peace be to the brothers, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.24 Grace be with all who love our Lord Jesus Christ in immortality.
