Jeremiah 44

1 The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews which dwell in the land of Egypt, which dwell at Migdol, and at Tahpanhes, and at Noph, and in the country of Pathros, saying,	1 Voici la parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie à propos de tous les Judéens qui habitaient en Égypte: ceux de Migdol, de Tahpanhès, de Nof et du pays de Patros.
2 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Ye have seen all the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, and upon all the cities of Judah; and, behold, this day they are a desolation, and no man dwelleth therein,	2 “Voici ce que dit Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d’Israël: Vous avez vu tout le malheur que j’ai fait venir sur Jérusalem et sur toutes les villes de Juda. Aujourd’hui elles sont en ruines et sans habitants.
3 Because of their wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense, and to serve other gods, whom they knew not, neither they, ye, nor your fathers.	3 C’est qu’ils m’avaient mis en colère avec tout le mal qu’ils commettaient: ils sont allés encenser et servir des dieux étrangers qu’ils ne connaissaient pas, ni eux, ni leurs pères.
4 Howbeit I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, Oh, do not this abominable thing that I hate.	4 “Je n’ai pas cessé de leur envoyer tous mes serviteurs les prophètes, pour leur dire: Ne faites donc pas cette chose honteuse que je déteste!
5 But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense unto other gods.	5 Mais ils n’ont pas écouté, ils n’ont pas prêté l’oreille, ils ne sont pas revenus de leurs actions mauvaises, ils n’ont pas cessé d’encenser les dieux étrangers.
6 Wherefore my fury and mine anger was poured forth, and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are wasted and desolate, as at this day.	6 “Alors s’est enflammé le feu de ma colère, il a brûlé les villes de Juda et les rues de Jérusalem; il en a fait une ruine, un désert, comme on le voit en ce jour.
7 Therefore now this saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; Wherefore commit ye this great evil against your souls, to cut off from you man and woman, child and suckling, out of Judah, to leave you none to remain;	7 “Et maintenant, voici ce que dit Yahvé, le Dieu Sabaot, le Dieu d’Israël: Pourquoi vous faites-vous du mal à vous-mêmes? Voulez-vous que Juda soit privé d’hommes et de femmes, d’enfants et de nourrissons, au point qu’il n’en reste rien?
8 In that ye provoke me unto wrath with the works of your hands, burning incense unto other gods in the land of Egypt, whither ye be gone to dwell, that ye might cut yourselves off, and that ye might be a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?	8 Pourquoi agissez-vous de façon à me mettre en colère? N’offrez pas d’encens aux dieux étrangers en cette Égypte où vous êtes venus vous installer. Voulez-vous donc disparaître et devenir une malédiction et une moquerie pour toutes les nations de la Terre?
9 Have ye forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives, which they have committed in the land of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem?	9 Avez-vous oublié les crimes de vos pères, les crimes des rois de Juda et les crimes de ses chefs, les crimes que vous et vos femmes avez commis en Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem?
10 They are not humbled even unto this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers.	10 On ne s’est pas repenti jusqu’à ce jour, on n’a pas suivi ma loi et mes commandements que j’avais placés devant vous et devant vos pères.
11 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, and to cut off all Judah.	11 “C’est pourquoi, voici ce que dit Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d’Israël: Je me tourne contre vous pour votre malheur et je vais supprimer tout Juda.
12 And I will take the remnant of Judah, that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they shall all be consumed, and fall in the land of Egypt; they shall even be consumed by the sword and by the famine: they shall die, from the least even unto the greatest, by the sword and by the famine: and they shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach.	12 Je prendrai ce qui reste de Juda, ceux qui ont décidé d’aller en Égypte pour s’y installer, et ils périront tous. Ils tomberont en Égypte, ils y mourront par l’épée et par la famine: du plus petit jusqu’au plus grand, tous mourront par l’épée et par la famine. Ils seront un exemple de malédiction, de déchéance; on ne fera que s’en moquer.
13 For I will punish them that dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence:	13 Je m’en prendrai à ceux qui habitent en Égypte comme je m’en suis pris à Jérusalem, avec l’épée, la famine et la peste.
14 So that none of the remnant of Judah, which are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall escape or remain, that they should return into the land of Judah, to the which they have a desire to return to dwell there: for none shall return but such as shall escape.	14 De tous ceux qui restent de Juda et qui sont entrés en Égypte pour s’y installer, avec l’espoir de retourner en Juda, il n’y aura ni fuyard ni survivant.”
15 Then all the men which knew that their wives had burned incense unto other gods, and all the women that stood by, a great multitude, even all the people that dwelt in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying,	15 Tous les hommes qui savaient que leurs femmes encensaient des dieux étrangers, toutes les femmes qui étaient là et tout le peuple qui habitait à Patros, en Égypte - cela faisait beaucoup de monde - répondirent alors à Jérémie:
16 As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee.	16 “Nous ne te suivrons pas dans ce que tu nous dis au nom de Yahvé.
17 But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.	17 Nous ferons comme nous l’avons décidé, nous brûlerons l’encens pour la reine des cieux et nous lui offrirons des libations. Nous le faisions bien, nous et nos pères, nos rois et nos chefs, dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem, et alors nous avions du pain comme nous voulions, nous étions heureux et nous ne connaissions pas le malheur.
18 But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.	18 “Mais dès que nous avons cessé d’encenser la reine des cieux et de lui offrir des libations, nous avons manqué de tout et nous sommes morts par l’épée et par la famine.
19 And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings unto her, without our men?	19 D’ailleurs, lorsque nous encensons la reine des cieux et que nous lui offrons des libations, ce n’est pas en cachette de nos maris que nous faisons ces gâteaux à son image et que nous préparons ces libations.”
20 Then Jeremiah said unto all the people, to the men, and to the women, and to all the people which had given him that answer, saying,	20 Alors Jérémie prit la parole et dit à tout le peuple, aux hommes, aux femmes et à tous les gens qui lui avaient répliqué:
21 The incense that ye burned in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, ye, and your fathers, your kings, and your princes, and the people of the land, did not the LORD remember them, and came it not into his mind?	21 “C’est tout le contraire: cet encensement que vous pratiquiez dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem, vous, vos pères, vos rois et vos chefs, et tout le peuple du pays, Yahvé s’en est souvenu et tout lui est revenu à la mémoire.
22 So that the LORD could no longer bear, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which ye have committed; therefore is your land a desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, without an inhabitant, as at this day.	22 Yahvé ne peut plus supporter le spectacle des mauvaises actions et des horreurs que vous commettez; c’est pourquoi votre pays est devenu une ruine, un désert, une malédiction, privé d’habitants comme il l’est aujourd’hui.
23 Because ye have burned incense, and because ye have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil is happened unto you, as at this day.	23 Avec votre encens vous avez péché contre Yahvé; vous n’avez pas écouté la voix de Yahvé et vous n’avez pas suivi sa Loi, ses commandements et ses préceptes; c’est pourquoi ce malheur vous est arrivé comme on le voit aujourd’hui.”
24 Moreover Jeremiah said unto all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of the LORD, all Judah that are in the land of Egypt:	24 Jérémie dit encore à tout le peuple et à toutes les femmes: Écoutez la parole de Yahvé, vous tous Judéens qui êtes en Égypte.
25 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying; Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and fulfilled with your hand, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her: ye will surely accomplish your vows, and surely perform your vows.	25 Voici ce que dit Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d’Israël: Vous, les femmes, faites donc comme vous l’avez décidé. Vous avez dit: Nous accomplirons les vœux que nous avons faits, nous encenserons la reine des cieux et nous lui offrirons des libations. Eh bien, honorez donc vos promesses, faites ce que vous avez promis!
26 Therefore hear ye the word of the LORD, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have sworn by my great name, saith the LORD, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord GOD liveth.	26 Mais écoutez cette parole de Yahvé, vous tous Judéens qui habitez en Égypte: Voici ce que moi, j’ai juré par mon grand Nom. Mon nom - dit Yahvé - ne sera plus prononcé par aucun homme de Juda dans tout le pays d’Égypte; aucun d’eux ne dira plus: Vive le Seigneur Yahvé!
27 Behold, I will watch over them for evil, and not for good: and all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them.	27 “Je vais m’occuper d’eux pour le malheur et non pour leur faire du bien; tous les hommes de Juda qui sont en Égypte disparaîtront par l’épée et par la famine, jusqu’au dernier.
28 Yet a small number that escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, and all the remnant of Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know whose words shall stand, mine, or theirs.	28 (Un tout petit nombre d’hommes qui aura échappé à l’épée, reviendra d’Égypte au pays de Juda). Tous ceux de Juda qui sont en Égypte sauront alors quelle est la parole qui se réalise: la mienne ou la leur.
29 And this shall be a sign unto you, saith the LORD, that I will punish you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil:	29 Voici le signe - parole de Yahvé - qui vous permettra de savoir que je viens vous visiter ici et que les paroles de menaces que j’ai prononcées contre vous se réaliseront.
30 Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will give Pharaoh-hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of them that seek his life; as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, his enemy, and that sought his life.	30 Vous avez vu comment j’ai livré Sédécias, roi de Juda, aux mains de Nabukodonozor, roi de Babylone, son ennemi qui en voulait à sa vie; de même je vais livrer Hofra, le Pharaon d’Égypte, aux mains de ses ennemis qui en veulent à sa vie.”
