Proverbs 22

1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.	1 Una buona riputazione vai più di molte ricchezze, l'essere in buona grazia vai più dell'argento e dell'oro.
2 The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all.	2 Il ricco e il povero si vanno incontro, li ha fatti tutt'e due il Signore.
3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.	3 L'astuto vede il male, e si nasconde, il semplicione tira innanzi, e ne paga il fio.
4 By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.	4 Frutto della modestia è il timor del Signore, la ricchezza, la gloria, la vita.
5 Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.	5 Armi e spade son nella via del perverso: chi ha cura dell'anima propria ne sta lontano.
6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.	6 E' un proverbio: « Il giovanetto, presa che abbia la sua strada, non se ne allontanerà neppur da vecchio ».
7 The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.	7 Il ricco comanda ai poveri, e chi prende in prestito è servo dell'usuraio.
8 He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.	8 Chi semina ingiustizie mieterà sciagure, e sarà consumato dalla verga del suo furore.
9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.	9 Chi si fa prendere dalla compassione sarà benedetto, perchè del suo pane ha fatto parte ai poveri. Chi largisce doni otterrà vittoria ed onore, perchè rapisce il cuore, di chi riceve.
10 Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.	10 Caccia via il beffardo, e con lui se ne andrà la discordia, cesseran le liti e gli oltraggi.
11 He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.	11 Chi ama la purità del cuore, per le grazie del suo parlare avrà il re amico.
12 The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.	12 Gli occhi del Signore custodiscono la scienza, e rendon vane le parole dell'iniquo.
13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.	13 Dice il pigro: « Fuori c'è un leone, sarò sbranato in mezzo alla piazza ».
14 The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.	14 Fossa profonda è la bocca dell'adultera, colui contro il quale è adirato il Signore vi cadrà.
15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.	15 La stoltezza sta legata al cuore del fanciullo, la verga della disciplina la farà fuggire.
16 He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.	16 Chi opprime il povero per aver più ricchezze, le cederà ad uno più ricco, e sarà nella miseria.
17 Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.	17 Porgi il tuo orecchio, ascolta le parole dei saggi, e poni mente ai miei insegnamenti.
18 For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.	18 I quali saran per te belli, se li custodirai nel fondo del tuo cuore e ne ridonderanno i tuoi labbri.
19 That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.	19 Affinché la tua fiducia sia riposta in Dio, per questo io oggi te li ho esposti.
20 Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,	20 Ecco per tre volte li ho scritti, con riflessione e scienza,
21 That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?	21 per farti conoscere la certezza delle parole della, verità, per rispondere a quelli che ti hanno mandato.
22 Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:	22 Non usar prepotenza col povero, perchè è povero, non opprimere il miserabile alla porta.
23 For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.	23 Perché il Signore ne giudicherà la causa e trafiggerà coloro che gli han trafitta l'anima.
24 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:	24 Non fare amicizia coll'uomo iracondo, non andare coll'uomo furioso.
25 Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.	25 Che tu non abbia a imparare il suo modo di agire, e non ne prenda scandalo l'anima tua.
26 Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.	26 Non star con quelli che impegnano le loro mani e si offrono mallevadori per chi ha debiti.
27 If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?	27 Se non hai con che pagare, perchè esporti a farti portar via la coperta dal tuo letto?
28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.	28 Non oltrepassare i termini antichi posti dai tuoi padri.
29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.	29 Hai veduto un uomo spedito nel suo lavoro? Egli starà davanti ai re e non andrà a servire gente oscura.
