Proverbs 22

1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.	1 Un nome famoso val più di molta ricchezza e la reputazione più dell'argento e l'oro.
2 The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all.	2 Il ricco e il povero s'incontrano insieme: il Signore li ha fatti entrambi.
3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.	3 L'uomo assennato vede la disgrazia e si mette al riparo; i semplici vi passano accanto e ci cascano.
4 By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.	4 Frutto dell'umiltà è il timor del Signore, la ricchezza, la gloria e la vita.
5 Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.	5 Spine e lacci sulla strada del perverso; chi ha cura di sé ne sta lontano.
6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.	6 Istruisci il giovane sulla via da seguire; anche da vecchio non se ne allontanerà.
7 The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.	7 Il ricco domina sui poveri e il debitore è schiavo del creditore.
8 He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.	8 Chi semina iniquità raccoglie disgrazia e la verga della sua collera colpisce lui stesso.
9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.	9 L'occhio benevolo sarà benedetto, perché ha dato del suo pane al povero.
10 Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.	10 Scaccia il beffardo e la discordia se ne andrà e cesseranno lite e insulto.
11 He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.	11 Chi ama la purezza di cuore e ha la grazia sulle labbra, il re è suo amico.
12 The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.	12 Gli occhi del Signore proteggono la scienza, ma egli confonde le parole del bugiardo.
13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.	13 Dice il pigro: "C'è il leone fuori! Sulla strada sarò sbranato!".
14 The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.	14 Fossa profonda è la bocca della donna altrui; colui che il Signore riprova vi cadrà.
15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.	15 La stoltezza è legata al cuor del giovane: la verga del castigo lo allontana da lei.
16 He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.	16 Chi opprime il povero lo fa ricco; chi dà al ricco, solamente impoverisce.
17 Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.	17 Tendi l'orecchio e ascolta le parole dei sapienti, applica il tuo cuore perché tu le comprenda!
18 For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.	18 Son deliziose se le custodisci nel tuo seno, se resteranno insieme sopra le tue labbra.
19 That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.	19 Affinché sia il Signore la tua fiducia, voglio istruirti oggi intorno alla tua via.
20 Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,	20 Non ho scritto per te trenta parole, riguardanti consigli e conoscenza,
21 That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?	21 perché tu possa far conoscere la verità, rispondere a coloro che ti interrogano?
22 Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:	22 Non spogliare il povero, perché è povero e non opprimere alla porta l'infelice,
23 For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.	23 perché il Signore difenderà la loro causa e rapirà la vita ai loro aggressori.
24 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:	24 Non diventare amico di un infuriato e non frequentare l'iracondo,
25 Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.	25 perché tu non impari i suoi costumi e non ci trovi un laccio alla tua vita.
26 Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.	26 Non essere di quelli che offrono la destra, che si fanno garanti per i debiti:
27 If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?	27 se tu non hai da rendere, ti toglieranno anche il letto di sotto.
28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.	28 Non spostare il vecchio confine che posero i tuoi padri.
29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.	29 Tu vedi un uomo svelto al suo lavoro? Starà alla presenza dei sovrani. Non starà più davanti a gente oscura.
