KING JAMES BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me.1 A song of ascents. The LORD answered me when I called in my distress:
Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.2 LORD, deliver me from lying lips, from treacherous tongues.
What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue?3 What will the Lord inflict on you, O treacherous tongue, and what more besides?
Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.4 A warrior's sharpened arrows and fiery coals of brush wood!
Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar!5 Alas, I was an alien in Meshech, I lived near the tents of Kedar!
My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace.6 Too long did I live among those who hated peace.
I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.7 When I spoke of peace, they were for war.
