When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language;1 Alleluia. I have loved: therefore, the Lord will heed the voice of my prayer.
Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion.2 For he has inclined his ear to me. And in my days, I will call upon him.
The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back.3 The sorrows of death have surrounded me, and the perils of Hell have found me. I have found tribulation and sorrow.
The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs.4 And so, I called upon the name of the Lord. O Lord, free my soul.
What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back?5 Merciful is the Lord, and just. And our God is compassionate.
Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams; and ye little hills, like lambs?6 The Lord is the keeper of little ones. I was humbled, and he freed me.
Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob;7 Turn again, my soul, to your rest. For the Lord has done good to you.
Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters.8 For he has rescued my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from slipping.
I will please the Lord in the land of the living.
