1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,	1 Allora il Signore rispose a Giobbe di mezzo al turbine così:
2 Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?	2 "Chi è colui che denigra la provvidenza con parole insensate?
3 Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.	3 Cingiti i fianchi come un prode: ti interrogherò e tu mi istruirai.
4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.	4 Dov'eri quando io mettevo le basi della terra? Dillo, se hai tanta sapienza!
5 Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?	5 Chi fissò le sue proporzioni, se lo sai, e chi tracciò per essa la linea?
6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;	6 Dove affondano i suoi pilastri, o chi pose la sua pietra angolare,
7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?	7 mentre le stelle del mattino giubilavano unite, e plaudivano tutti i figli di Dio?
8 Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?	8 Chi racchiuse tra due battenti il mare, quando uscì impetuoso dal seno materno,
9 When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,	9 quando gli diedi le nubi per vestirsi e la foschia per fasciarsi?
10 And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,	10 Poi gli imposi un limite, fissando catenacci e porte.
11 And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?	11 E gli ingiunsi: "Fin qui arriverai e non oltre, qui si arresterà la superbia delle tue onde!".
12 Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;	12 Hai tu un solo dei tuoi giorni comandato al mattino e assegnato all'aurora il suo posto,
13 That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?	13 perché afferri la terra ai suoi angoli e ne scuota i malvagi?
14 It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.	14 Allora la terra si trasforma come creta sotto il sigillo, e si tinge come un vestito.
15 And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.	15 Allora è negata al malvagio la luce di essa ed è spezzato il braccio altero.
16 Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?	16 Sei mai giunto alle sorgenti del mare, o hai passeggiato sul fondo dell'abisso?
17 Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?	17 Ti sono state indicate le porte della morte e hai visto i portali dell'ombra funerea?
18 Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all.	18 Ti sei reso conto dell'ampiezza della terra? Dillo, se sai tutto questo!
19 Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,	19 Per quale via si va dove abita la luce? e le tenebre dove hanno dimora?
20 That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?	20 Potresti tu condurle al loro posto, dato che conosci il sentiero delle loro case?
21 Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?	21 Tu lo sai, perché allora eri già nato, ed il numero dei tuoi anni è assai grande.
22 Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,	22 Sei mai entrato nei serbatoi della neve, hai potuto vedere i depositi della grandine,
23 Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?	23 che io tengo in serbo per il tempo della tribolazione, per il giorno di lotta e di battaglia?
24 By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?	24 Da quale parte si diffonde la luce? Per dove lo scirocco invade la terra?
25 Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;	25 Chi ha scavato il canale per le acque torrenziali, e una strada alla nube tonante,
26 To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;	26 per far piovere su una terra disabitata, su un deserto, dove non c'è uomo,
27 To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?	27 per saziare regioni desolate e squallide e far germogliare e spuntare l'erba?
28 Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew?	28 La pioggia ha forse un padre? Chi genera le gocce di rugiada?
29 Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?	29 Da quale seno è nato il ghiaccio, e la brina del cielo chi l'ha generata?
30 The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.	30 Le acque si solidificano come pietra e la faccia dell'abisso si raggela.
31 Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?	31 Puoi tu annodare i legami delle Pleiadi, o sciogliere i vincoli di Orione?
32 Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?	32 Fai tu spuntare la costellazione a suo tempo, e guidi tu l'Orsa con i suoi piccini?
33 Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?	33 Conosci forse le leggi del cielo e determini tu i loro influssi sulla terra?
34 Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?	34 Puoi tu dar ordini alle nubi, perché una massa d'acqua ti inondi?
35 Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are?	35 Scagli tu i fulmini e partono dicendoti: "Eccoci"?
36 Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart?	36 Chi ha concesso all'ibis la sapienza, e chi ha dato al gallo intelligenza?
37 Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,	37 Chi può contare le nubi con esattezza, e chi riversa gli otri del cielo,
38 When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together?	38 quando la polvere si fonde in una massa e le zolle si attaccano insieme?
39 Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,	39 Vai tu a caccia di preda per la leonessa e sazi la fame dei leoncelli,
40 When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?	40 quando sono accovacciati nelle tane, o stanno in agguato fra le macchie?
41 Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.	41 Chi procaccia il nutrimento al corvo, quando i suoi nati gridano verso Dio e si agitano per mancanza di cibo?
