Job 22

1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,	1 Eliphaz di Theman allor prese a dire:
2 Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?	2 Può egli agguagliarsi a Dio un uomo, quand'anche avesse una scienza perfetta?
3 Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him that thou makest thy ways perfect?	3 Torna egli forse in vantaggio di Dio se tu sarai giusto? E che aggiungi tu a lui se immacolata sarà la tua vita?
4 Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?	4 Forse per timor ch'egli abbia ti accuserà, e verrà teco in giudizio?
5 Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?	5 E non fa egli questo per le moltissime tue malvagità, e per le infinite tue colpe?
6 For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.	6 Perocché tu portasti via senza ragione il pegno de' tuoi fratelli, e spogliasti i meschini delle lor vesti.
7 Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.	7 Non desti acqua al sitibondo, e pane negasti all'affamato.
8 But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.	8 Colla forza del tuo braccio entrasti in possesso della terra, e potendone più degli altri in essa regnavi.
9 Thou has sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.	9 Le vedove rimandasti indietro senza far loro ragione, e i pupilli privasti d'ogni sostegno.
10 Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;	10 Per questo se' cinto di lacci, e turbato da repentini terrori.
11 Or darkness, that thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.	11 E credevi che non avresti veduto mai tenebre, né saresti oppresso da tale impetuosa piena d'acque?
12 Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!	12 Pensi tu forse, che Dio è più sublime del cielo, e ch'ei sormonta l'altezza delle stelle?
13 And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?	13 Onde dici: Che può egli sapere Dio? Egli giudica quasi all'oscuro.
14 Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.	14 Suo nascondiglio sono le nuvole, né alle cose, nostre egli pon mente, e attorno ai cardini del cielo passeggia.
15 Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?	15 Vuoi tu forse camminare per quella antica strada, che fu battuta dagli empj?
16 Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:	16 I quali furon rapiti prima del loro tempo, e la fiumana roversciò i lor fondamenti:
17 Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?	17 I quali dicevano a Dio: Vattene da noi: e dell'Onnipotente tal avean concetto, come se nulla potesse:
18 Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.	18 Mentre egli le case loro avea riempiute di beni. Lungi da me l'opinion di coloro.
19 The righteous see it, and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.	19 I giusti vedranno, e ne avranno allegrezza, e l'innocente gli schernirà.
20 Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.	20 Non è ella stata gettata a terra la loro altezza, e i loro avanzi non son eglino stati consunti dal fuoco?
21 Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.	21 Adattati adunque a lui, e avrei pace, e da ciò raccorrai ottimi frutti.
22 Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.	22 Dalla bocca di lui prendi legge, e nel cuor tuo imprimi le sue parole.
23 If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.	23 Se tornerai all'Onnipotente ti rimetterai in piedi, e rimoverai dalla tua casa l'iniquità.
24 Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.	24 In vece di terra egli ti darà vivo masso, e in cambio di pietre, torrenti di oro.
25 Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.	25 L'Onnipotente sarà teco contro de' tuoi nemici, e avrai l'argento a masse.
26 For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.	26 Allora nell'Onnipotente troverai copia di delizie, e alzerai a Dio la tua faccia.
27 Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.	27 Lo pregherai, ed egli ti esaudirà, e scioglierai i tuoi voti.
28 Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.	28 Risolverai una cosa, e sarà ridotta ad effetto, e le tue vie saran luminose.
29 When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.	29 Perocché chi fu umiliato sarà in gloria, e chi portò gli occhi bassi sarà salvato.
30 He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.	30 Sarà salvo l'innocente, e sarà salvo per la purezza delle sue mani.
