1 Then Job answered and said,	1 Job prit la parole et dit:
2 How long will ye vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words?	2 Combien de temps encore allez-vous me fatiguer, et m’assommer à force de paroles?
3 These ten times have ye reproached me: ye are not ashamed that ye make yourselves strange to me.	3 Dix fois déjà vous m’avez insulté, n’avez-vous pas honte de me maltraiter?
4 And be it indeed that I have erred, mine error remaineth with myself.	4 Si réellement je me suis trompé, mon péché ne regarde que moi.
5 If indeed ye will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach:	5 Mais vous me regardez de haut: voilà la vérité, et vous me reprochez mon malheur.
6 Know now that God hath overthrown me, and hath compassed me with his net.	6 Sachez que Dieu me traite injustement et qu’il a jeté sur moi ses filets.
7 Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard: I cry aloud, but there is no judgment.	7 Je crie à la violence, pas de réponse, j’appelle au secours, personne pour me défendre!
8 He hath fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he hath set darkness in my paths.	8 Il a barré ma route, je n’ai plus de passage, il a mis sur mon chemin les ténèbres.
9 He hath stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head.	9 Il m’a privé de ma gloire, il a ôté de ma tête la couronne,
10 He hath destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and mine hope hath he removed like a tree.	10 Il me descelle tout autour et me fait partir, il déracine mon espérance.
11 He hath also kindled his wrath against me, and he counteth me unto him as one of his enemies.	11 Il décharge sur moi sa colère, il me traite en ennemi.
12 His troops come together, and raise up their way against me, and encamp round about my tabernacle.	12 Toutes ses troupes arrivent à la fois, elles se frayent un chemin jusqu’à moi, elles font le siège de ma demeure.
13 He hath put my brethren far from me, and mine acquaintance are verily estranged from me.	13 Il a éloigné de moi mes frères, mes connaissances cherchent à m’éviter.
14 My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends have forgotten me.	14 Mes proches, mes compagnons ne me voient plus, les hôtes de ma maison m’ont oublié.
15 They that dwell in mine house, and my maids, count me for a stranger: I am an alien in their sight.	15 Mes servantes me sont devenues étrangères, comme si pour elles j’étais un inconnu.
16 I called my servant, and he gave me no answer; I intreated him with my mouth.	16 J’appelle mon serviteur, il ne me répond pas lorsque je vais jusqu’à le supplier.
17 My breath is strange to my wife, though I intreated for the children's sake of mine own body.	17 Mon haleine répugne à ma femme, mes propres frères sont dégoûtés de moi.
18 Yea, young children despised me; I arose, and they spake against me.	18 Les gamins eux-mêmes me méprisent, si je me lève ils se moquent de moi.
19 All my inward friends abhorred me: and they whom I loved are turned against me.	19 Tous mes intimes maintenant me détestent, ceux que j’aimais se sont retournés contre moi.
20 My bone cleaveth to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth.	20 Sous ma peau ma chair a pourri, mes os se dénudent comme des dents:
21 Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched me.	21 Pitié! Pitié pour moi, ô vous, mes amis: c’est la main de Dieu qui m’a frappé!
22 Why do ye persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?	22 Faut-il me persécuter parce que Dieu le fait? n’en avez-vous pas assez de me dévorer?
23 Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book!	23 Ah, je voudrais qu’on écrive mes paroles, et qu’on les grave sur du bronze
24 That they were graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever!	24 avec un ciseau de fer, un burin, et qu’elles soient pour toujours inscrites dans la pierre.
25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:	25 Je sais que mon libérateur est vivant, et qu’à la fin il se présentera sur terre.
26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:	26 Alors je me mettrai debout derrière ma peau, et de ma chair je verrai Dieu!
27 Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.	27 Je le verrai, moi, le même, et c’est lui que mes yeux verront, pas un autre: mon cœur déjà s’épuise dans cette attente.
28 But ye should say, Why persecute we him, seeing the root of the matter is found in me?	28 Mais vous en êtes à dire: “Comment l’attaquer? trouvons-lui quelque parole à reprendre”.
29 Be ye afraid of the sword: for wrath bringeth the punishments of the sword, that ye may know there is a judgment.	29 Alors craignez que l’épée ne vous frappe, car la Colère s’enflamme contre les fautes, et vous saurez qu’il y a une justice!
