Proverbs 4

1 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend that you may know prudence.	1 Écoutez, mes fils, l'instruction de votre père, et soyez attentifs pour connaître la prudence.
2 I will give you a good gift, forsake not my law.	2 Je vous ferai un excellent don; n'abandonnez pas ma loi.
3 For I also was my father's son, tender and as an only son in the sight of my mother:	3 Car moi aussi, j'ai été le fils d'un père, le tendre enfant, et comme le fils unique de mère.
4 And he taught me, and said: Let thy heart receive my words, keep my commandments, and thou shalt live.	4 Et il m'instuisait, et disait: Que ton coeur reçoive mes paroles; garde mes préceptes, et tu vivras.
5 Get wisdom, get prudence: forget not, neither decline from the words of my mouth.	5 Acquiers la sagesse, acquiers la prudence. N'oublie pas les paroles de ma bouche, et ne t'en détourne pas.
6 Forsake her not, and she shall keep thee: love her, and she shall preserve thee.	6 N'abandonne point la sagesse, et elle te gardera; aime-la, et elle te conservera.
7 The beginning of wisdom, get wisdom, and with all thy possession purchase prudence.	7 Le commencement de la sagesse, c'est: Acquiers la sagesse, au prix de tous tes biens, acquiers la prudence.
8 Take hold on her, and she shall exalt thee: thou shalt be glorified by her, when thou shalt embrace her.	8 Saisis-la de force, et elle t'exaltera; elle sera ta gloire, lorsque tu l'auras embrassée.
9 She shall give to thy head increase of graces, and protect thee with a noble crown.	9 Elle mettra sur ta tête un accroissement de grâces, et elle te couvrira d'une couronne éclatante.
10 Hear, O my son, and receive my words, that years of life may be multiplied to thee.	10 Écoute, mon fils, et reçois mes paroles, afin que les années de ta vie se multiplient.
11 I will shew thee the way of wisdom, I will lead thee by the paths of equity:	11 Je te montrerai la voie de la sagesse; je te conduirai par les sentiers de l'équité.
12 Which when thou shalt have entered, thy steps shall not be straitened, and when thou runnest thou shalt not meet a stumblingblock.	12 Lorsque tu y seras entré, tes pas ne seront point gênés, et si tu cours, rien ne te fera tomber.
13 Take hold on instruction, leave it not: keep it, because it is thy life.	13 Tiens-toi à la discipline, ne la quitte pas; garde-la, parce qu'elle est ta vie.
14 Be not delighted in the paths of the wicked, neither let the way of evil men please thee.	14 Ne mets pas tes délices dans les sentiers des impies, et que la voie des méchants ne te plaise pas.
15 Flee from it, pass not by it: go aside, and forsake it.	15 Fuis-la, n'y passe point; détourne-t'en, et quitte-la.
16 For they sleep not except they have done evil: and their sleep is taken away unless they have made some to fall.	16 Car ils ne dorment point s'ils n'ont fait du mal, et le sommeil leur est ravi, s'ils n'ont fait tomber quelqu'un dans leurs pièges.
17 They eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of iniquity.	17 Ils mangent le pain de l'impiété, et ils boivent le vin de l'iniquité.
18 But the path of the just, as a shining light, goeth forwards and increaseth even to perfect day.	18 Mais le sentier des justes s'avance comme une lumière brillante et qui croît jusqu'au jour parfait.
19 The way of the wicked is darksome: they know not where they fall.	19 La voie des impies est ténébreuse; il ne savent où ils tomberont.
20 My son, hearken to my words, and incline thy ear to my sayings.	20 Mon fils, écoute mes discours, et prête l'oreille à mes paroles.
21 Let them not depart from thy eyes, keep them in the midst of thy heart:	21 Qu'elles ne s'éloignent point de tes yeux; conserve-les au milieu de ton coeur;
22 For they are life to those that find them, and health to all flesh.	22 car elles sont la vie de ceux qui les trouvent, et la santé de toute chair.
23 With all watchfulness keep thy heart, because life issueth out from it.	23 Mets tout le soin possible à garder ton coeur, car il est la source de la vie.
24 Remove from thee a froward mouth, and let detracting lips be far from thee.	24 Écarte de toi la bouche maligne, et que les lèvres médisantes soient bien loin de toi.
25 Let thy eyes look straight on, and let thy eyelids go before thy steps.	25 Que tes yeux regardent droit devant toi, et que tes paupières précèdent tes pas.
26 Make straight the path for thy feet, and all thy ways shall be established.	26 Fais à tes pieds un droit sentier, et toutes tes voies seront affermies.
27 Decline not to the right hand, nor to the left: turn away thy foot from evil. For the Lord knoweth the ways that are on the right hand: but those are perverse which are on the left hand. But he will make thy courses straight, he will bring forward thy ways in peace.	27 Ne te détourne ni à droite ni à gauche, retire ton pied du mal; car le Seigneur connaît les voies qui sont à droite, mais ce sont les voies perverses qui sont à gauche, Lui-même Il redressera ta course, et Il te conduira en paix sur ton chemin.
