¹ Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend that you may know prudence.	¹ Écoutez, mes fils, l'instruction de votre père, et soyez attentifs pour connaître la prudence.
² I will give you a good gift, forsake not my law.	² Je vous ferai un excellent don; n'abandonnez pas ma loi.
³ For I also was my father's son, tender and as an only son in the sight of my mother:	³ Car moi aussi, j'ai été le fils d'un père, le tendre enfant, et comme le fils unique de mère.
⁴ And he taught me, and said: Let thy heart receive my words, keep my commandments, and thou shalt live.	⁴ Et il m'instuisait, et disait: Que ton coeur reçoive mes paroles; garde mes préceptes, et tu vivras.
⁵ Get wisdom, get prudence: forget not, neither decline from the words of my mouth.	⁵ Acquiers la sagesse, acquiers la prudence. N'oublie pas les paroles de ma bouche, et ne t'en détourne pas.
⁶ Forsake her not, and she shall keep thee: love her, and she shall preserve thee.	⁶ N'abandonne point la sagesse, et elle te gardera; aime-la, et elle te conservera.
⁷ The beginning of wisdom, get wisdom, and with all thy possession purchase prudence.	⁷ Le commencement de la sagesse, c'est: Acquiers la sagesse, au prix de tous tes biens, acquiers la prudence.
⁸ Take hold on her, and she shall exalt thee: thou shalt be glorified by her, when thou shalt embrace her.	⁸ Saisis-la de force, et elle t'exaltera; elle sera ta gloire, lorsque tu l'auras embrassée.
⁹ She shall give to thy head increase of graces, and protect thee with a noble crown.	⁹ Elle mettra sur ta tête un accroissement de grâces, et elle te couvrira d'une couronne éclatante.
¹⁰ Hear, O my son, and receive my words, that years of life may be multiplied to thee.	¹⁰ Écoute, mon fils, et reçois mes paroles, afin que les années de ta vie se multiplient.
¹¹ I will shew thee the way of wisdom, I will lead thee by the paths of equity:	¹¹ Je te montrerai la voie de la sagesse; je te conduirai par les sentiers de l'équité.
¹² Which when thou shalt have entered, thy steps shall not be straitened, and when thou runnest thou shalt not meet a stumblingblock.	¹² Lorsque tu y seras entré, tes pas ne seront point gênés, et si tu cours, rien ne te fera tomber.
¹³ Take hold on instruction, leave it not: keep it, because it is thy life.	¹³ Tiens-toi à la discipline, ne la quitte pas; garde-la, parce qu'elle est ta vie.
¹⁴ Be not delighted in the paths of the wicked, neither let the way of evil men please thee.	¹⁴ Ne mets pas tes délices dans les sentiers des impies, et que la voie des méchants ne te plaise pas.
¹⁵ Flee from it, pass not by it: go aside, and forsake it.	¹⁵ Fuis-la, n'y passe point; détourne-t'en, et quitte-la.
¹⁶ For they sleep not except they have done evil: and their sleep is taken away unless they have made some to fall.	¹⁶ Car ils ne dorment point s'ils n'ont fait du mal, et le sommeil leur est ravi, s'ils n'ont fait tomber quelqu'un dans leurs pièges.
¹⁷ They eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of iniquity.	¹⁷ Ils mangent le pain de l'impiété, et ils boivent le vin de l'iniquité.
¹⁸ But the path of the just, as a shining light, goeth forwards and increaseth even to perfect day.	¹⁸ Mais le sentier des justes s'avance comme une lumière brillante et qui croît jusqu'au jour parfait.
¹⁹ The way of the wicked is darksome: they know not where they fall.	¹⁹ La voie des impies est ténébreuse; il ne savent où ils tomberont.
²⁰ My son, hearken to my words, and incline thy ear to my sayings.	²⁰ Mon fils, écoute mes discours, et prête l'oreille à mes paroles.
²¹ Let them not depart from thy eyes, keep them in the midst of thy heart:	²¹ Qu'elles ne s'éloignent point de tes yeux; conserve-les au milieu de ton coeur;
²² For they are life to those that find them, and health to all flesh.	²² car elles sont la vie de ceux qui les trouvent, et la santé de toute chair.
²³ With all watchfulness keep thy heart, because life issueth out from it.	²³ Mets tout le soin possible à garder ton coeur, car il est la source de la vie.
²⁴ Remove from thee a froward mouth, and let detracting lips be far from thee.	²⁴ Écarte de toi la bouche maligne, et que les lèvres médisantes soient bien loin de toi.
²⁵ Let thy eyes look straight on, and let thy eyelids go before thy steps.	²⁵ Que tes yeux regardent droit devant toi, et que tes paupières précèdent tes pas.
²⁶ Make straight the path for thy feet, and all thy ways shall be established.	²⁶ Fais à tes pieds un droit sentier, et toutes tes voies seront affermies.
²⁷ Decline not to the right hand, nor to the left: turn away thy foot from evil. For the Lord knoweth the ways that are on the right hand: but those are perverse which are on the left hand. But he will make thy courses straight, he will bring forward thy ways in peace.	²⁷ Ne te détourne ni à droite ni à gauche, retire ton pied du mal; car le Seigneur connaît les voies qui sont à droite, mais ce sont les voies perverses qui sont à gauche, Lui-même Il redressera ta course, et Il te conduira en paix sur ton chemin.
