DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW JERUSALEM
A psalm for David. Rejoice in the Lord, O ye just: praise becometh the upright.1 Shout for joy, you upright; praise comes wel from the honest.
Give praise to the Lord on the harp; sing to him with the psaltery, the instrument of ten strings.2 Give thanks to Yahweh on the lyre, play for him on the ten-stringed lyre.
Sing to him a new canticle, sing well unto him with a loud noise.3 Sing to him a new song, make sweet music for your cry of victory.
For the word of the Lord is right, and all his works are done with faithfulness.4 The word of Yahweh is straightforward, al he does springs from his constancy.
He loveth mercy and judgment; the earth is full of the mercy of the Lord.5 He loves uprightness and justice; the faithful love of Yahweh fil s the earth.
By the word of the Lord the heavens were established; and all the power of them by the spirit of his mouth:6 By the word of Yahweh the heavens were made, by the breath of his mouth all their array.
Gathering together the waters of the sea, as in a vessel; laying up the depths in storehouses.7 He collects the waters of the sea like a dam, he stores away the abyss in his treasure-house.
Let all the earth fear the Lord, and let all the inhabitants of the world be in awe of him.8 Let the whole earth fear Yahweh, let al who dwel in the world revere him;
For he spoke and they were made: he commanded and they were created.9 for, the moment he spoke, it was so, no sooner had he commanded, than there it stood!
The Lord bringeth to naught the counsels of nations; and he rejecteth the devices of people, and casteth away the counsels of princes.10 Yahweh thwarts the plans of nations, frustrates the counsels of peoples;
But the counsel of the Lord standeth for ever: the thoughts of his heart to all generations.11 but Yahweh's own plan stands firm for ever, his heart's counsel from age to age.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord: the people whom he hath chosen for his inheritance.12 How blessed the nation whose God is Yahweh, the people he has chosen as his heritage.
The Lord hath looked from heaven: he hath beheld all the sons of men.13 From heaven Yahweh looks down, he sees al the children of Adam,
From his habitation which he hath prepared, he hath looked upon all that dwell on the earth.14 from the place where he sits he watches al who dwel on the earth;
He who hath made the hearts of every one of them: who understandeth all their works.15 he alone moulds their hearts, he understands al they do.
The king is not saved by a great army: nor shall the giant be saved by his own great strength.16 A large army wil not keep a king safe, nor his strength save a warrior's life;
Vain is the horse for safety: neither shall he be saved by the abundance of his strength.17 it is delusion to rely on a horse for safety, for all its power it cannot save.
Behold the eyes of the Lord are on them that fear him: and on them that hope in his mercy.18 But see how Yahweh watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his faithful love,
To deliver their souls from death; and feed them in famine.19 to rescue them from death and keep them alive in famine.
Our soul waiteth for the Lord: for he is our helper and protector.20 We are waiting for Yahweh; he is our help and our shield,
For in him our heart shall rejoice: and in his holy name we have trusted.21 for in him our heart rejoices, in his holy name we trust.
Let thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us, as we have hoped in thee.22 Yahweh, let your faithful love rest on us, as our hope has rested in you.
