Psalms 127

DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 When the lord brought back the captivity of Sion, we became like men comforted.1 A song of ascents. Of Solomon. Unless the LORD build the house, they labor in vain who build. Unless the LORD guard the city, in vain does the guard keep watch.
2 Then was our mouth filled with gladness; and our tongue with joy. Then shall they say among the Gentiles: The Lord hath done great things for them.2 It is vain for you to rise early and put off your rest at night, To eat bread earned by hard toil-- all this God gives to his beloved in sleep.
3 The Lord hath done great things for us: we are become joyful.3 Children too are a gift from the LORD, the fruit of the womb, a reward.
4 Turn again our captivity, O Lord, as a stream in the south.4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children born in one's youth.
5 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.5 Blessed are they whose quivers are full. They will never be shamed contending with foes at the gate.
6 Going they went and wept, casting their seeds.
7 But coming they shall come with joyfulness, carrying their sheaves.
