DOUAI-RHEIMSNOVA VULGATA
1 Then Job answered , and said:1 Respondens autem Iob dixit:
2 How long do you afflict my soul, and break me in pieces with words?2 “ Usquequo affligitis ani mam meam
et atteritis me sermonibus?
3 Behold, these ten times you confound me, and are not ashamed to oppress me.3 En decies obiurgatis me
et non erubescitis opprimentes me.
4 For if I have been ignorant, my ignorance shall be with me.4 Nempe, etsi erravi,
mecum erit error meus.
5 But you have set yourselves up against me, and reprove me with my reproaches.5 Si vos contra me erigimini
et arguitis me opprobriis meis,
6 At least now understand, that God hath not afflicted me with an equal judgment, and compassed me with his scourges.6 saltem nunc intellegite quia Deus non aequo iudicio afflixerit me
et rete suo me cinxerit.
7 Behold I cry suffering violence, and no one will hear: I shall cry aloud, and there is none to judge.7 Etsi clamo: Vim patior!, non exaudior;
si vociferor, non est qui iudicet.
8 He hath hedged in my path round about, and I cannot pass, and in my way he hath set darkness.8 Semitam meam circumsaepsit, et transire non possum;
et in calle meo tenebras posuit.
9 He hath stripped me of my glory, and hath taken the crown from my head.9 Spoliavit me gloria mea
et abstulit coronam de capite meo.
10 He hath destroyed me on every side, and I am lost, and he hath taken away my hope, as from a tree that is plucked up.10 Destruxit me undique, et pereo,
et evellit quasi arborem spem meam.
11 His wrath is kindled against me, and he hath counted me as his enemy.11 Iratus est contra me furor eius,
et sic me habuit quasi hostem suum.
12 His troops have come together, and have made themselves a way by me, and have besieged my tabernacle round about.12 Simul venerunt turmae eius
et fecerunt sibi viam adversus me
et obsederunt in gyro tabernaculum meum.
13 He hath put my brethren far from me, and my acquaintance like strangers have departed from me.13 Fratres meos longe fecit a me,
et noti mei quasi alieni recesserunt a me.
14 My kinsmen have forsaken me, and they that knew me, have forgotten me.14 Dereliquerunt me propinqui mei,
et, qui me noverant, obliti sunt mei.
15 They that dwelt in my house, and my maidservants have counted me a stranger, and I have been like an alien in their eyes.15 Inquilini domus meae et ancillae meae sicut alienum habuerunt me,
et quasi peregrinus fui in oculis eorum.
16 I called my servant, and he gave me no answer, I entreated him with my own mouth.16 Servum meum vocavi, et non respondit;
ore proprio deprecabar illum.
17 My wife hath abhorred my breath, and I entreated the children of my womb.17 Halitum meum exhorruit uxor mea,
et fetui filiis uteri mei.
18 Even fools despise me; and when I gone from them, they spoke against me.18 Vel infantes despiciebant me
et, cum surgerem, detrahebant mihi.
19 They that were sometime my counsellors, have abhorred me: and he whom I love most is turned against me.19 Abominati sunt me quondam consiliarii mei;
et, quem maxime diligebam, aversatus est me.
20 The flesh being consumed. My bone hath cleaved to my skin, and nothing but lips are left about my teeth.20 Pelli meae, consumptis carnibus, adhaesit os meum,
et evanuit cutis mea circa dentes meos.
21 Have pity on me, have pity on me, at least you my friends, because the hand of the Lord hath touched me.21 Miseremini mei, miseremini mei, saltem vos, amici mei,
quia manus Domini tetigit me.
22 Why do you persecute me as God, and glut yourselves with my flesh?22 Quare persequimini me sicut Deus
et carnibus meis non saturamini?
23 Who will grant me that my words may be written? Who will grant me that they may be marked down in a book?23 Quis mihi tribuat, ut scribantur sermones mei?
Quis mihi det, ut exarentur in libro
24 With an iron pen and in a plate of lead, or else be graven with an instrument in flint stone.24 stilo ferreo et plumbeo,
in aeternum sculpantur in silice?
25 For I know that my Redeemer liveth, and in the last day I shall rise out of the earth.25 Scio enim quod redemptor meus vivit
et in novissimo super pulvere stabit;
26 And I shall be clothed again with my skin, and in my flesh I will see my God.26 et post pellem meam hanc, quam abstraxerunt,
et de carne mea videbo Deum.
27 Whom I myself shall see, and my eyes shall behold, and not another: this my hope is laid up in my bosom.27 Quem visurus sum ego ipse,
et oculi mei conspecturi sunt, et non alienum.
Consumpti sunt renes mei in sinu meo.
28 Why then do you say now: Let us persecute him, and let us find occasion of word against him?28 Si ergo nunc dicitis: “Quomodo persequemur eum
et radicem verbi inveniemus contra eum?”,
29 Flee then from the face of the sword, for the sword is the revenger of iniquities: and know ye that there is judgment.29 timete a facie gladii,
quoniam ultor iniquitatum gladius est;
et scitote esse iudicium ”.
