Confess to the Lord, and invoke his name. Announce his works among the nations.
Egli si ammanta di luce come di una vesta; Egli tende il cielo come una cortina.2 Sing to him, and sing psalms to him. Describe all his wonders.
Be praised in his holy name. Let the heart of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
Egli fa i venti suoi Angeli, E il fuoco divampante suoi ministri.4 Seek the Lord, and be confirmed. Seek his face always.
Egli ha fondata la terra sulle sue basi; Giammai in perpetuo non sarà smossa.5 Remember his miracles, which he has done, his portents and the judgments of his mouth:
Tu l’avevi già coperta dell’abisso, come d’una vesta; Le acque si erano fermate sopra i monti.6 you offspring of Abraham his servant, you sons of Jacob his elect.
Esse fuggirono per lo tuo sgridare; Si affrettarono per la voce del tuo tuono;7 He is the Lord our God. His judgments are throughout the entire earth.
He has remembered his covenant for all ages: the word that he entrusted to a thousand generations,
Tu hai loro posto un termine, il qual non trapasseranno; E non torneranno a coprir la terra9 which he assigned to Abraham, and his oath to Isaac.
And he stationed the same for Jacob with a precept, and for Israel with an eternal testament,
To you, I will give the land of Canaan, the allotment of your inheritance.
Presso a quelle si riparano gli uccelli del cielo; Fanno sentir di mezzo alle frondi le lor voci.12 Though they may have been but a small number, very few and foreigners there,
Egli adacqua i monti dalle sue stanze sovrane; La terra è saziata del frutto delle sue opere.13 and though they passed from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people,
Egli fa germogliar l’erba per le bestie; E l’erbaggio per lo servigio dell’uomo, Facendo uscire della terra il pane.14 he allowed no man to harm them, and he reproved kings on their behalf.
Egli rallegra il cuor dell’uomo col vino, Egli fa risplender la faccia coll’olio, E sostenta il cuor dell’uomo col pane.15 Do not be willing to touch my Christ, and do not be willing to malign my prophets.
And he called a famine upon the land, and he crushed every foundation of the bread.
He sent a man before them: Joseph, who had been sold as a slave.
They humbled his feet in shackles; the iron pierced his soul,
The eloquence of the Lord inflamed him.
Tu mandi le tenebre, ed e’ si fa notte, Nella quale tutte le fiere delle selve vanno attorno.20 The king sent and released him; he was the ruler of the people, and he dismissed him.
He established him as master of his house and ruler of all his possessions,
Ma, tosto ch’è levato il sole, si raccolgono, E giacciono ne’ lor ricetti.22 so that he might instruct his princes as himself, and teach his elders prudence.
And Israel entered into Egypt, and Jacob became a sojourner in the land of Ham.
Tu le hai tutte fatte con sapienza; La terra è piena de’ tuoi beni.24 And he helped his people greatly, and he strengthened them over their enemies.
Ecco, il mar grande ed ampio: Quivi son rettili senza numero, Amimali piccoli e grandi.25 He turned their heart to hate his people, and to deal deceitfully with his servants.
Quivi nuotano le navi, E il Leviatan che tu hai formato per ischerzare in esso.26 He sent Moses, his servant, and Aaron, the one whom he chose.
He placed with them signs of his word, and portents in the land of Ham.
Se tu lo dài loro, lo ricolgono; Se tu apri la tua mano, son saziati di beni.28 He sent darkness and made it conceal, and he did not afflict them with his speech.
He turned their waters into blood, and he slaughtered their fish.
Se tu rimandi il tuo spirito son creati; E tu rinnuovi la faccia della terra30 Their land brought forth frogs, even in the inner chambers of their kings.
Sia la gloria del Signore in eterno; Rallegrisi il Signore nelle sue opere;31 He spoke, and there came forth common flies and gnats, in every region.
Il quale se riguarda verso la terra, ella trema; Se tocca i monti, essi fumano.32 He gave them a shower of hail and a burning fire, in the same land.
Io canterò al Signore, mentre viverò; Io salmeggerò all’Iddio mio, tanto che io durerò.33 And he struck their vineyards and their fig trees, and he crushed the trees of their region.
He spoke, and the locust came forth, and the caterpillar, of which there was no number.
Alleluia35 And it devoured all the grass in their land, and it consumed all the fruit of their land.
And he struck all the first-born in their land, the first-fruits of all their labor.
And he led them out with silver and gold, and there was not an infirm one among their tribes.
Egypt was joyful at their departure, for the fear of them lay heavy upon them.
He spread a cloud for their protection, and a fire, to give them light through the night.
They petitioned, and the quail came; and he satisfied them with the bread of heaven.
He ruptured the rock and the waters flowed: rivers gushed in the dry land.
For he had called to mind his holy word, which he kept near to his servant Abraham.
And he led forth his people in exultation, and his elect in rejoicing.
And he gave them the regions of the Gentiles, and they possessed the labors of the peoples,
so that they might observe his justifications, and inquire about his law.
