A Psalm of David, when he was in the desert of Idumea.1 [For the choirmaster . . . Jeduthun Psalm Of David] In God alone there is rest for my soul, from himcomes my safety;
O God, my God: to you, I keep vigil until first light. For you, my soul has thirsted, to you my body, in so many ways.2 he alone is my rock, my safety, my stronghold so that I stand unshaken.
By a deserted land, both inaccessible and waterless, so I have appeared in the sanctuary before you, in order to behold your virtue and your glory.3 How much longer wil you set on a victim, al together, intent on murder, like a rampart already leaningover, a wall already damaged?
For your mercy is better than life itself. It is you my lips will praise.4 Trickery is their only plan, deception their only pleasure, with lies on their lips they pronounce ablessing, with a curse in their hearts.Pause
So will I bless you in my life, and I will lift up my hands in your name.5 Rest in God alone, my soul! He is the source of my hope.
Let my soul be filled, as if with marrow and fatness; and my mouth will give praise with exultant lips.6 He alone is my rock, my safety, my stronghold, so that I stand unwavering.
When I have remembered you on my bed in the morning, I will meditate on you.7 In God is my safety and my glory, the rock of my strength. In God is my refuge;
For you have been my helper. And I will exult under the cover of your wings.8 trust in him, you people, at al times. Pour out your hearts to him, God is a refuge for us.Pause
My soul has clung close to you. Your right hand has supported me.9 Ordinary people are a mere puff of wind, important people a delusion; set both on the scales together,and they are lighter than a puff of wind.
Truly, these ones have sought my soul in vain. They will enter into the lower parts of the earth.10 Put no trust in extortion, no empty hopes in robbery; however much wealth may multiply, do not setyour heart on it.
They will be delivered into the hand of the sword. They will be the portions of foxes.11 Once God has spoken, twice have I heard this: Strength belongs to God,
Truly, the king will rejoice in God: all those who swear by him will be praised, because the mouth of those who speak iniquity has been blocked.12 to you, Lord, faithful love; and you repay everyone as their deeds deserve.
