Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness. | 1 A psalm of the Korahites. A song. |
Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King. | 2 Great is the LORD and highly praised in the city of our God: The holy mountain, |
God is known in her palaces for a refuge. | 3 fairest of heights, the joy of all the earth, Mount Zion, the heights of Zaphon, the city of the great king. |
For, lo, the kings were assembled, they passed by together. | 4 God is its citadel, renowned as a stronghold. |
They saw it, and so they marvelled; they were troubled, and hasted away. | 5 See! The kings assembled, together they invaded. |
Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, as of a woman in travail. | 6 When they looked they were astounded; terrified, they were put to flight! |
Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind. | 7 Trembling seized them there, anguish, like a woman's labor, |
As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish it for ever. Selah. | 8 As when the east wind wrecks the ships of Tarshish! |
We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple. | 9 What we had heard we now see in the city of the LORD of hosts, In the city of our God, founded to last forever. Selah |
According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness. | 10 O God, within your temple we ponder your steadfast love. |
Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments. | 11 Like your name, O God, your praise reaches the ends of the earth. Your right hand is fully victorious. |
Walk about Zion, and go round about her: tell the towers thereof. | 12 Mount Zion is glad! The cities of Judah rejoice because of your saving deeds! |
Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that ye may tell it to the generation following. | 13 Go about Zion, walk all around it, note the number of its towers. |
For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death. | 14 Consider the ramparts, examine its citadels, that you may tell future generations: |
"Yes, so mighty is God, our God who leads us always!" |
