1 Der Älteste an den geliebten Gaius, den ich in Wahrheit liebe.	1 The ancient to the dearly beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth.
2 Lieber Bruder, ich wünsche dir in jeder Hinsicht Wohlergehen und Gesundheit, so wie es deiner Seele wohlergeht.	2 Dearly beloved, concerning all things I make it my prayer that thou mayest proceed prosperously, and fare well as thy soul doth prosperously.
3 Denn ich habe mich sehr gefreut, als Brüder kamen, die für deine Treue zur Wahrheit Zeugnis ablegten und berichteten, wie du in der Wahrheit lebst.	3 I was exceedingly glad when the brethren came and gave testimony to the truth in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
4 Ich habe keine größere Freude, als zu hören, dass meine Kinder in der Wahrheit leben.	4 I have no greater grace than this, to hear that my children walk in truth.
5 Lieber Bruder, du handelst treu in allem, was du an den Brüdern, sogar an fremden Brüdern tust.	5 Dearly beloved, thou dost faithfully whatever thou dost for the brethren, and that for strangers,
6 Sie haben vor der Gemeinde für deine Liebe Zeugnis abgelegt. Du wirst gut daran tun, wenn du sie für ihre Reise so ausrüstest, wie es Gottes würdig ist.	6 Who have given testimony to thy charity in the sight of the church: whom thou shalt do well to bring forward on their way in a manner worthy of God.
7 Denn für seinen Namen sind sie ausgezogen und haben von den Heiden nichts angenommen.	7 Because, for his name they went out, taking nothing of the Gentiles.
8 Darum sind wir verpflichtet, solche Männer aufzunehmen, damit auch wir zu Mitarbeitern für die Wahrheit werden.	8 We therefore ought to receive such, that we may be fellow helpers of the truth.
9 Ich habe der Gemeinde geschrieben. Aber Diotrephes, der unter ihnen der Erste sein will, erkennt uns nicht an.	9 I had written perhaps to the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the pre-eminence among them, doth not receive us.
10 Deshalb werde ich, wenn ich komme, an sein Tun und Treiben erinnern. Mit bösen Worten hetzt er gegen uns und gibt sich damit noch nicht zufrieden; sondern er selbst nimmt die Brüder nicht auf und hindert alle daran, die es tun wollen, und schließt diese aus der Gemeinde aus.	10 For this cause, if I come, I will advertise his works which he doth, with malicious words prating against us. And as if these things were not enough for him, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and them that do receive them he forbiddeth, and casteth out of the church.
11 Lieber Bruder, ahme nicht das Böse nach, sondern das Gute! Wer das Gute tut, ist aus Gott; wer aber das Böse tut, hat Gott nicht gesehen.	11 Dearly beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doth good, is of God: he that doth evil, hath not seen God.
12 Für Demetrius legen alle und die Wahrheit selbst Zeugnis ab; auch wir legen für ihn Zeugnis ab und du weißt, dass unser Zeugnis wahr ist.	12 To Demetrius testimony is given by all, and by the truth itself, yea and we also give testimony: and thou knowest that our testimony is true.
13 Vieles hätte ich dir noch zu schreiben; ich will es aber nicht mit Tinte und Feder tun.	13 I had many things to write unto thee: but I would not by ink and pen write to thee.
14 Ich hoffe, dich bald zu sehen; dann werden wir persönlich miteinander sprechen.	14 But I hope speedily to see thee, and we will speak mouth to mouth. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Salute the friends by name.
15 Friede sei mit dir! Es grüßen dich die Freunde. Grüße die Freunde, jeden einzelnen!
