1 Nun zur Frage des Götzenopferfleisches. Gewiss, wir alle haben Erkenntnis. Doch die Erkenntnis macht aufgeblasen, die Liebe dagegen baut auf.	1 Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that "all of us possess knowledge." "Knowledge" puffs up, but love builds up.
2 Wenn einer meint, er sei zur Erkenntnis gelangt, hat er noch nicht so erkannt, wie man erkennen muss.	2 If any one imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know.
3 Wer aber Gott liebt, der ist von ihm erkannt.	3 But if one loves God, one is known by him.
4 Was nun das Essen von Götzenopferfleisch angeht, so wissen wir, dass es keine Götzen gibt in der Welt und keinen Gott außer dem einen.	4 Hence, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that "an idol has no real existence," and that "there is no God but one."
5 Und selbst wenn es im Himmel oder auf der Erde sogenannte Götter gibt - und solche Götter und Herren gibt es viele -,	5 For although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth--as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords"--
6 so haben doch wir nur einen Gott, den Vater. Von ihm stammt alles und wir leben auf ihn hin. Und einer ist der Herr: Jesus Christus. Durch ihn ist alles, und wir sind durch ihn.	6 yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.
7 Aber nicht alle haben die Erkenntnis. Einige, die von ihren Götzen nicht loskommen, essen das Fleisch noch als Götzenopferfleisch und so wird ihr schwaches Gewissen befleckt.	7 However, not all possess this knowledge. But some, through being hitherto accustomed to idols, eat food as really offered to an idol; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
8 Zwar kann uns keine Speise vor Gottes Gericht bringen. Wenn wir nicht essen, verlieren wir nichts, und wenn wir essen, gewinnen wir nichts.	8 Food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do.
9 Doch gebt Acht, dass diese eure Freiheit nicht den Schwachen zum Anstoß wird.	9 Only take care lest this liberty of yours somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.
10 Wenn nämlich einer dich, der du Erkenntnis hast, im Götzentempel beim Mahl sieht, wird dann nicht sein Gewissen, da er schwach ist, verleitet, auch Götzenopferfleisch zu essen?	10 For if any one sees you, a man of knowledge, at table in an idol's temple, might he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols?
11 Der Schwache geht an deiner «Erkenntnis» zugrunde, er, dein Bruder, für den Christus gestorben ist.	11 And so by your knowledge this weak man is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died.
12 Wenn ihr euch auf diese Weise gegen eure Brüder versündigt und ihr schwaches Gewissen verletzt, versündigt ihr euch gegen Christus.	12 Thus, sinning against your brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ.
13 Wenn darum eine Speise meinem Bruder zum Anstoß wird, will ich überhaupt kein Fleisch mehr essen, um meinem Bruder keinen Anstoß zu geben.	13 Therefore, if food is a cause of my brother's falling, I will never eat meat, lest I cause my brother to fall.
