1 Wort des Herrn, das an Zefanja, den Sohn Kuschis, des Sohnes Gedaljas, des Sohnes Amarjas, des Sohnes Hiskijas, erging in der Zeit, als Joschija, der Sohn Amons, König von Juda war.	1 The word of the LORD which came to Zephaniah the son of Cushi, son of Gedaliah, son of Amariah, son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah.
2 Ich raffe alles vom Erdboden weg, ich raffe es weg - Spruch des Herrn.	2 "I will utterly sweep away everything from the face of the earth," says the LORD.
3 Mensch und Vieh raffe ich weg, die Vögel des Himmels raffe ich weg und die Fische im Meer [nämlich alles, was die Frevler zu Fall gebracht hat,] und ich rotte die Menschen auf der Erde aus - Spruch des Herrn.	3 "I will sweep away man and beast; I will sweep away the birds of the air and the fish of the sea. I will overthrow the wicked; I will cut off mankind from the face of the earth," says the LORD.
4 Ich strecke meine Hand gegen Juda aus und gegen alle Einwohner Jerusalems und ich rotte an diesem Ort die Reste des Baalsdienstes aus, samt den Namen der Götzenpriester,	4 "I will stretch out my hand against Judah, and against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off from this place the remnant of Baal and the name of the idolatrous priests;
5 alle, die sich auf den Dächern niederwerfen vor dem Heer des Himmels, auch alle, die sich vor dem Herrn niederwerfen, zugleich aber bei ihrem Moloch schwören,	5 those who bow down on the roofs to the host of the heavens; those who bow down and swear to the LORD and yet swear by Milcom;
6 und alle, die dem Herrn den Rücken kehren, die ihn nicht suchen und nicht nach ihm fragen.	6 those who have turned back from following the LORD, who do not seek the LORD or inquire of him."
7 Schweigt vor Gott, dem Herrn! Denn der Tag des Herrn ist nahe. Ja, der Herr hat ein Schlachtopfer vorbereitet, er hat die eingeladenen Gäste schon (dem Tod) geweiht.	7 Be silent before the Lord GOD! For the day of the LORD is at hand; the LORD has prepared a sacrifice and consecrated his guests.
8 Am Tag des Schlachtopfers des Herrn rechne ich ab mit den großen Herren und den Königssöhnen und allen, die fremdländische Kleider tragen;	8 And on the day of the LORD's sacrifice--"I will punish the officials and the king's sons and all who array themselves in foreign attire.
9 an jenem Tag rechne ich ab mit jedem, der über die Schwelle springt, mit allen, die das Haus ihres Herrn mit Betrug und Gewalt anfüllen.	9 On that day I will punish every one who leaps over the threshold, and those who fill their master's house with violence and fraud."
10 An jenem Tag - Spruch des Herrn - hört man vom Fischtor her Geschrei und aus der Neustadt lautes Jammern und von den Hügeln her großes Getöse.	10 "On that day," says the LORD, "a cry will be heard from the Fish Gate, a wail from the Second Quarter, a loud crash from the hills.
11 Jammert, ihr Bewohner der Senke! Denn das ganze Krämervolk verstummt, alle Geldwechsler sind ausgerottet.	11 Wail, O inhabitants of the Mortar! For all the traders are no more; all who weigh out silver are cut off.
12 In jener Zeit durchsuche ich Jerusalem mit der Laterne und rechne ab mit den Herren,die dick geworden sind auf ihrer Hefe und denken: Der Herr tut weder Gutes noch Böses.	12 At that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and I will punish the men who are thickening upon their lees, those who say in their hearts, 'The LORD will not do good, nor will he do ill.'
13 Darum werden ihre Reichtümer geraubt und ihre Häuser verwüstet. Sie werden Häuser bauen, aber nicht darin wohnen; sie werden Weinberge anlegen, aber den Wein nicht trinken.	13 Their goods shall be plundered, and their houses laid waste. Though they build houses, they shall not inhabit them; though they plant vineyards, they shall not drink wine from them."
14 Der Tag des Herrn ist nahe, der gewaltige Tag, er ist nahe, schnell kommt er herbei. Horch, der Tag des Herrn ist bitter, da schreit sogar der Kriegsheld auf.	14 The great day of the LORD is near, near and hastening fast; the sound of the day of the LORD is bitter, the mighty man cries aloud there.
15 Ein Tag des Zorns ist jener Tag, ein Tag der Not und Bedrängnis, ein Tag des Krachens und Berstens, ein Tag des Dunkels und der Finsternis, ein Tag der Wolken und der schwarzen Nacht,	15 A day of wrath is that day, a day of distress and anguish, a day of ruin and devastation, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness,
16 ein Tag des Widderhorns und des Kriegsgeschreis in den befestigten Städten und auf den hohen Zinnen.	16 a day of trumpet blast and battle cry against the fortified cities and against the lofty battlements.
17 Da jage ich den Menschen Angst ein, sodass sie wie blind umherlaufen; denn sie haben sich gegen den Herrn versündigt. Ihr Blut wird hingeschüttet wie Schutt und ihr fettes Mark wie Kot.	17 I will bring distress on men, so that they shall walk like the blind, because they have sinned against the LORD; their blood shall be poured out like dust, and their flesh like dung.
18 Weder ihr Silber noch ihr Gold kann sie retten am Tag des Zornes des Herrn. Vom Feuer seines leidenschaftlichen Eifers wird die ganze Erde verzehrt. Denn er bereitet allen Bewohnern der Erde ein Ende, ein schreckliches Ende.	18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them on the day of the wrath of the LORD. In the fire of his jealous wrath, all the earth shall be consumed; for a full, yea, sudden end he will make of all the inhabitants of the earth.
