1 David war alt und hochbetagt und bestellte seinen Sohn Salomo zum König von Israel.	1 When David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel.
2 Er versammelte dazu alle führenden Männer Israels, die Priester und Leviten.	2 David assembled all the leaders of Israel and the priests and the Levites.
3 Die Leviten waren von dreißig Jahren an aufwärts gezählt worden. Ihre Zahl betrug 38000 Mann.	3 The Levites, thirty years old and upward, were numbered, and the total was thirty-eight thousand men.
4 Von diesen hatten 24000 den Dienst im Haus des Herrn zu leiten, 6000 waren Listenführer und Richter,	4 "Twenty-four thousand of these," David said, "shall have charge of the work in the house of the LORD, six thousand shall be officers and judges,
5 4000 Torwächter und 4000 sollten den Herrn mit den Instrumenten preisen, die David zum Lobpreis anfertigen ließ.	5 four thousand gatekeepers, and four thousand shall offer praises to the LORD with the instruments which I have made for praise."

7 Zu den Nachkommen Gerschons gehörten Ladan und Schimi.	7 The sons of Gershom were Ladan and Shime-i.
8 Von den Söhnen Ladans war Jehiël der erste; ihm folgten Setam und Joël; insgesamt waren es drei.	8 The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, and Zetham, and Joel, three.
9 Die Söhne Jehiëls waren Schelomit, Hasiël und Haran, insgesamt drei. Sie waren die Familienhäupter Ladans.	9 The sons of Shime-i: Shelomoth, Hazi-el, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers' houses of Ladan.
10 Die Söhne Schimis waren Jahat, Sisa, Jëusch und Beria. Das waren die vier Söhne Schimis.	10 And the sons of Shime-i: Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shime-i.
11 Jahat war der erste, Sisa der zweite. Jëusch und Beria hatten nur wenige Söhne; sie bildeten daher nur eine Großfamilie und eine Dienstklasse.	11 Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second; but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons, therefore they became a father's house in one reckoning.
12 Die Söhne Kehats waren: Amram, Jizhar, Hebron und Usiël, insgesamt vier.	12 The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.
13 Die Söhne Amrams waren Aaron und Mose. Aaron und seine Söhne wurden für immer dazu bestimmt, Hochheiliges zu betreuen, Rauchopfer vor dem Herrn zu verbrennen, ihm zu dienen und allezeit in seinem Namen zu segnen.	13 The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Aaron was set apart to consecrate the most holy things, that he and his sons for ever should burn incense before the LORD, and minister to him and pronounce blessings in his name for ever.
14 Die Söhne des Mose aber, des Mannes Gottes, wurden dem Stamm der Leviten zugerechnet.	14 But the sons of Moses the man of God were named among the tribe of Levi.
15 Die Söhne des Mose waren Gerschom und Eliëser.	15 The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.
16 Von den Söhnen Gerschoms war Schubaël der erste.	16 The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the chief.
17 Der Erstgeborene Eliësers war Rehabja. Andere Söhne hatte er nicht. Die Söhne Rehabjas dagegen waren sehr zahlreich.	17 The sons of Eliezer: Rehabiah the chief; Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.
18 Von den Söhnen Jizhars war Schelomit der erste.	18 The sons of Izhar: Shelomith the chief.
19 Die Söhne Hebrons waren: der erste Jerija, der zweite Amarja, der dritte Jahasiël, der vierte Jekamam.	19 The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.
20 Von den Söhnen Usiëls war Micha der erste und Jischija der zweite.	20 The sons of Uzziel: Micah the chief and Isshiah the second.
21 Die Söhne Meraris waren Machli und Muschi. Die Söhne Machlis waren Eleasar und Kisch.	21 The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.
22 Eleasar hinterließ keine Söhne, als er starb; er hatte nur Töchter und diese heirateten die Söhne des Kisch, ihre Vettern.	22 Eleazar died having no sons, but only daughters; their kinsmen, the sons of Kish, married them.
23 Die Söhne Muschis waren: Machli, Eder und Jeremot, insgesamt drei.	23 The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth, three.
24 Das waren die Leviten nach ihren Großfamilien mit deren Häuptern, wie sie Kopf für Kopf gezählt und bestellt worden waren. Sie besorgten, von zwanzig Jahren an aufwärts, den Dienst am Haus des Herrn.	24 These were the sons of Levi by their fathers' houses, the heads of fathers' houses as they were registered according to the number of the names of the individuals from twenty years old and upward who were to do the work for the service of the house of the LORD.
25 David sagte nämlich: Der Herr, der Gott Israels, hat seinem Volk Israel Ruhe verliehen und für immer in Jerusalem Wohnung genommen.	25 For David said, "The LORD, the God of Israel, has given peace to his people; and he dwells in Jerusalem for ever.
26 Die Leviten brauchen das Zelt und all seine Geräte für den Dienst nicht mehr zu tragen.	26 And so the Levites no longer need to carry the tabernacle or any of the things for its service"--
27 Nach den letzten Anordnungen Davids zählte man die Leviten von zwanzig Jahren an aufwärts.	27 for by the last words of David these were the number of the Levites from twenty years old and upward--
28 Ihre Stellung im Dienst des Hauses des Herrn an der Seite der Söhne Aarons verpflichtet sie vielmehr zur Aufsicht über die Höfe und Kammern, zur Reinigung alles Heiligen, zum Dienst im Haus Gottes,	28 "but their duty shall be to assist the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD, having the care of the courts and the chambers, the cleansing of all that is holy, and any work for the service of the house of God;
29 zur Besorgung der Schaubrote, des Feinmehls für die Speiseopfer und die ungesäuerten Brote, der Bratpfannen und des Backwerks sowie zur Überwachung der Hohl- und Längenmaße.	29 to assist also with the showbread, the flour for the cereal offering, the wafers of unleavened bread, the baked offering, the offering mixed with oil, and all measures of quantity or size.
30 Sie müssen auch jeden Morgen und Abend bereitstehen, um den Herrn zu loben und zu preisen.	30 And they shall stand every morning, thanking and praising the LORD, and likewise at evening,
31 Desgleichen sollen sie bei allen Brandopfern, die an den Sabbaten, Neumonden und Festen dem Herrn dargebracht werden, vollzählig, wie es ihre Pflicht ist, immer vor ihm erscheinen.	31 and whenever burnt offerings are offered to the LORD on sabbaths, new moons, and feast days, according to the number required of them, continually before the LORD.
32 So sollen sie den Dienst im Offenbarungszelt, den Dienst am Heiligtum und die Bedienung der Söhne Aarons, ihrer Amtsbrüder, bei ihren Verrichtungen im Haus des Herrn übernehmen.	32 Thus they shall keep charge of the tent of meeting and the sanctuary, and shall attend the sons of Aaron, their brethren, for the service of the house of the LORD."
