1 Doch Elischa entgegnete: Hört das Wort des Herrn! So spricht der Herr: Morgen um diese Zeit kostet am Tor von Samaria ein Sea Feinmehl nur noch einen Schekel und auch zwei Sea Gerste kosten nur noch einen Schekel.	1 Then Elisha said: “Listen to the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord: Tomorrow, at this time, one measure of fine wheat flour will be one silver coin, and two measures of barley will be one silver coin, at the gate of Samaria.”
2 Doch der Adjutant, auf dessen Arm sich der König stützte, antwortete dem Gottesmann: Selbst wenn der Herr Schleusen am Himmel anbrächte, könnte das nicht geschehen. Elischa erwiderte: Du wirst es mit deinen eigenen Augen sehen, aber nicht davon essen.	2 And one of the leaders, upon whose hand the king leaned, responding to the man of God, said, “Even if the Lord will open the floodgates of heaven, how can what you say possibly be?” And he said, “You will see it with your own eyes, and you will not eat from it.”
3 Vor dem Eingang des Stadttors saßen vier aussätzige Männer. Sie sagten zueinander: Warum sitzen wir hier, bis wir sterben?	3 Now there were four lepers beside the entrance of the gate. And they said one to another: “Should we choose to stay here until we die?
4 Wollten wir in die Stadt gehen, in der Hungersnot herrscht, dann sterben wir in ihr. Bleiben wir draußen, dann sterben wir auch. Kommt, wir gehen in das Lager der Aramäer hinüber! Wenn sie uns am Leben lassen, bleiben wir am Leben. Wenn sie uns töten, so sterben wir.	4 If we choose to enter the city, we will die from the famine. And if we remain here, we also will die. Therefore, come and let us flee over to the camp of the Syrians. If they spare us, we will live. But if they choose to kill us, we will die anyway.”
5 Sie machten sich daher in der Abenddämmerung auf, um in das Lager der Aramäer zu gehen. Doch als sie in den Bereich des aramäischen Lagers kamen, war dort niemand zu sehen.	5 Therefore, they rose up in the evening, so that they might go to the camp of the Syrians. And when they had arrived at the beginning of the camp of the Syrians, they found no one in that place.
6 Der Herr hatte nämlich das Rollen von Wagen, das Getrampel von Pferden und das Lärmen eines großen Heeres im Lager vernehmen lassen, sodass einer zum andern sagte: Der König von Israel hat die Könige der Hetiter und die Könige von Ägypten gegen uns angeworben, um uns überfallen zu lassen.	6 For indeed, the Lord had caused them to hear, in the camp of Syria, the sound of chariots and horses, and a very numerous army. And they said one to another: “Behold, the king of Israel has paid wages to the kings of the Hittites and of the Egyptians against us. And they will overwhelm us.”
7 Sie waren daher in der Dämmerung aufgebrochen und geflohen. Dabei hatten sie ihre Zelte, Pferde und Esel und das ganze Lager, so wie es war, zurückgelassen, um durch die Flucht ihr Leben zu retten.	7 Therefore, they rose up and fled away in the dark. And they left behind their tents and horses and donkeys in the camp. And they fled, desiring to save so much as their own lives.
8 Als nun die Aussätzigen in den Bereich des Lagers kamen, gingen sie in ein Zelt, aßen und tranken, nahmen Silber, Gold und Kleider und entfernten sich, um die Beute zu verstecken. Dann kamen sie zurück, gingen in ein anderes Zelt, machten auch hier ihre Beute und entfernten sich wieder, um sie zu verstecken.	8 And so, when these lepers had arrived at the beginning of the camp, they entered one tent, and they ate and drank. And they took from there silver, and gold, and clothing. And they went away and hid it. And they returned again to another tent, and similarly, carrying away from there, they hid it.
9 Dann aber sagten sie zueinander: Wir handeln nicht recht. Heute ist ein Tag froher Botschaft. Wenn wir schweigen und bis zum Morgengrauen warten, trifft uns Schuld. Kommt also; wir gehen und melden es im Palast des Königs.	9 Then they said one to another: “We are not doing the right thing. For this is a day of good news. If we remain silent and refuse to report it until morning, we will be charged with a crime. Come, let us go and report it in the court of the king.”
10 Sie machten sich auf, riefen die Wächter der Stadt und erzählten ihnen: Wir sind in das Lager der Aramäer gekommen. Aber dort war niemand zu sehen und kein menschlicher Laut zu hören. Die Pferde und Esel waren angebunden und die Zelte standen so da, wie sie waren.	10 And when they had arrived at the gate of the city, they explained to them, saying: “We went into the camp of the Syrians, and we found no one in that place, except horses and donkeys tied, and the tents still standing.”
11 Da schlugen die Wächter Lärm und man meldete es drinnen im Palast des Königs.	11 Therefore, the gatekeepers went and reported it in the palace of the king.
12 Noch in der Nacht stand der König auf und sagte zu seinen Leuten: Ich will euch erklären, was die Aramäer gegen uns planen. Sie wissen, dass wir Hunger leiden, und haben das Lager nur verlassen, um sich auf dem freien Feld zu verstecken mit dem Hintergedanken: Wenn sie die Stadt verlassen, nehmen wir sie lebendig gefangen und dringen in die Stadt ein.	12 And he rose up in the night, and he said to his servants: “I tell you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we are suffering from famine, and therefore they have gone out from the camp, and they lie hidden in the fields, saying: ‘When they will have gone out from the city, we will capture them alive, and then we will be able to enter the city.’ ”
13 Doch einer von den Leuten schlug vor: Man nehme doch fünf von den noch vorhandenen Pferden. Ihnen mag es ergehen wie den vielen Israeliten, die schon zugrunde gegangen sind. Wir wollen Männer mit den Pferden hinschicken und dann weiter sehen.	13 But one of his servants responded: “Let us take the five horses that remain in the city (for there were no more amid the entire multitude of Israel, since the rest had been consumed), and sending, we will be able to explore.”
14 Man nahm also zwei Wagen mit den Pferden. Der König schickte sie der Streitmacht der Aramäer nach und befahl ihnen: Brecht auf und seht nach!	14 Therefore, they brought two horses. And the king sent them into the camp of the Syrians, saying, “Go, and see.”
15 Sie fuhren hinter ihnen her bis an den Jordan und fanden den ganzen Weg mit Kleidern und Waffen übersät, die die Aramäer auf ihrer überstürzten Flucht weggeworfen hatten. Als sie zurückkamen und dem König Meldung erstatteten,	15 And they went away after them, as far as the Jordan. But behold, the entire way was filled with clothing and vessels, which the Syrians had thrown aside when they were disturbed. And the messengers returned and told the king.
16 strömte das Volk hinaus und plünderte das Lager der Aramäer. Jetzt kostete ein Sea Feinmehl nur noch einen Schekel und auch zwei Sea Gerste kosteten nur noch einen Schekel, wie es der Herr vorausgesagt hatte.	16 And the people, going out, pillaged the camp of the Syrians. And one measure of fine wheat flour went for one silver coin, and two measures of barley went for one silver coin, in accord with the word of the Lord.
17 Der König hatte die Aufsicht über das Tor dem Adjutanten übertragen, auf dessen Arm er sich zu stützen pflegte. Ihn trat das Volk im Stadttor nieder und so starb er, wie es ihm der Gottesmann vorausgesagt hatte, als der König gekommen war, um mit ihm zu reden.	17 Then the king stationed that leader, on whose hand he leaned, at the gate. And the crowd trampled him at the entrance of the gate. And he died, in accord with what the man of God had said when the king had descended to him.
18 Als nämlich der Gottesmann zum König sagte: Morgen um diese Zeit kosten am Tor von Samaria zwei Sea Gerste nur noch einen Schekel und ein Sea Feinmehl kostet nur noch einen Schekel,	18 And this happened in accord with the word of the man of God, which he had spoken to the king, when he said: “Two measures of barley will be one silver coin, and one measure of fine wheat flour will be one silver coin, at this same time tomorrow, at the gate of Samaria.”
19 hatte der Adjutant dem Gottesmann geantwortet: Selbst wenn der Herr Schleusen am Himmel anbrächte, könnte dies nicht geschehen. Und Elischa hatte ihm erwidert: Du wirst es mit deinen Augen sehen, aber nicht davon essen.	19 Then that leader had responded to the man of God, and he had said, “Even if the Lord will open the floodgates of heaven, how can what you say possibly happen?” And he said to him, “You will see it with your own eyes, and you will not eat from it.”
20 So geschah es ihm nun: Das Volk trat ihn im Tor nieder, sodass er starb.	20 Therefore, it happened to him just as it had been predicted. For the people trampled him at the gate, and he died.
