1 Da zuckte der König zusammen, stieg in den oberen Raum des Tores hinauf und weinte. Während er hinaufging, rief er (immer wieder): Mein Sohn Abschalom, mein Sohn, mein Sohn Abschalom! Wäre ich doch an deiner Stelle gestorben, Abschalom, mein Sohn, mein Sohn!	1 And it was told Joab, Behold, the king weepeth and mourneth for Absalom.
2 Man meldete Joab: Der König weint und trauert um Abschalom.	2 And the victory that day was turned into mourning unto all the people: for the people heard say that day how the king was grieved for his son.
3 So wurde der Tag der Rettung für das ganze Volk zu einem Trauertag; denn die Leute hörten an diesem Tag: Der König ist voll Schmerz wegen seines Sohnes.	3 And the people gat them by stealth that day into the city, as people being ashamed steal away when they flee in battle.
4 Die Leute schlichen sich an jenem Tag in die Stadt, wie sich Leute davonschleichen, die Schande auf sich geladen haben, weil sie im Kampf geflohen sind.	4 But the king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son!
5 Der König aber hatte sein Gesicht verhüllt und rief laut: Mein Sohn Abschalom! Abschalom, mein Sohn, mein Sohn!	5 And Joab came into the house to the king, and said, Thou hast shamed this day the faces of all thy servants, which this day have saved thy life, and the lives of thy sons and of thy daughters, and the lives of thy wives, and the lives of thy concubines;
6 Da ging Joab zum König ins Haus hinein und sagte: Du hast heute alle deine Diener offen beschimpft, die dir, deinen Söhnen und Töchtern, deinen Frauen und Nebenfrauen das Leben gerettet haben.	6 In that thou lovest thine enemies, and hatest thy friends. For thou hast declared this day, that thou regardest neither princes nor servants: for this day I perceive, that if Absalom had lived, and all we had died this day, then it had pleased thee well.
7 Du zeigst ja denen deine Liebe, die dich hassen, und deinen Hass denen, die dich lieben; denn du gabst uns heute zu verstehen, dass dir die Anführer und die Krieger nichts bedeuten. Jetzt weiß ich, dass es in deinen Augen ganz richtig wäre, wenn Abschalom noch am Leben wäre, wir alle aber heute gestorben wären.	7 Now therefore arise, go forth, and speak comfortably unto thy servants: for I swear by the LORD, if thou go not forth, there will not tarry one with thee this night: and that will be worse unto thee than all the evil that befell thee from thy youth until now.
8 Doch nun steh auf, geh hinaus und sag deinen Leuten einige anerkennende Worte! Denn ich schwöre dir beim Herrn: Wenn du nicht (zu ihnen) hinausgehst, dann wird bis zur kommenden Nacht keiner mehr bei dir sein und das wird für dich schlimmer sein als alles Unheil, das dir von deiner Jugend an bis jetzt zugestoßen ist.	8 Then the king arose, and sat in the gate. And they told unto all the people, saying, Behold, the king doth sit in the gate. And all the people came before the king: for Israel had fled every man to his tent.
9 Da stand der König auf und setzte sich in das Tor. Und im Volk wurde bekannt: Der König sitzt im Tor. Da kamen alle Leute zum König.	9 And all the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, The king saved us out of the hand of our enemies, and he delivered us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he is fled out of the land for Absalom.
10 Nachdem die Israeliten geflohen und in ihre Zelte zurückgekehrt waren, stritten sich alle Leute in allen Stämmen Israels und sagten: Der König hat uns aus der Gewalt unserer Feinde befreit, er hat uns aus der Gewalt der Philister gerettet und jetzt hat er vor Abschalom aus dem Land fliehen müssen.	10 And Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why speak ye not a word of bringing the king back?
11 Abschalom aber, den wir zu unserem König gesalbt haben, ist im Kampf gefallen. Warum zögert ihr jetzt, den König zurückzuholen?	11 And king David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, Speak unto the elders of Judah, saying, Why are ye the last to bring the king back to his house? seeing the speech of all Israel is come to the king, even to his house.
12 So redete man in ganz Israel. Und die Nachricht davon drang bis zum König vor [in sein Haus]. Da schickte König David (einen Boten) zu den Priestern Zadok und Abjatar und ließ ihnen sagen: Sagt zu den Ältesten Judas: Warum wollt ihr die letzten sein, die den König in sein Haus zurückholen?	12 Ye are my brethren, ye are my bones and my flesh: wherefore then are ye the last to bring back the king?
13 Ihr seid meine Brüder, ihr seid mein Fleisch und Bein. Warum wollt ihr die letzten sein, die den König zurückholen?	13 And say ye to Amasa, Art thou not of my bone, and of my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if thou be not captain of the host before me continually in the room of Joab.
14 Und zu Amasa sollt ihr sagen: Bist du nicht mein Fleisch und Bein? Gott soll mir dies und das antun, wenn du nicht bei mir für alle Zeit anstelle Joabs der Befehlshaber des Heeres sein wirst.	14 And he bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as the heart of one man; so that they sent this word unto the king, Return thou, and all thy servants.
15 So machte David sich das Herz aller Männer in Juda geneigt, sodass sie wie ein Mann zu ihm hielten. Sie sandten dem König die Aufforderung: Kehr zurück, du selbst und alle deine Diener!	15 So the king returned, and came to Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to conduct the king over Jordan.
16 Da machte sich der König auf den Rückweg und kam an den Jordan, die Judäer aber, die dem König entgegengezogen waren, um ihn über den Jordan zu geleiten, waren bis nach Gilgal gekommen.	16 And Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite, which was of Bahurim, hasted and came down with the men of Judah to meet king David.
17 Auch der Benjaminiter Schimi aus Bahurim, der Sohn Geras, eilte herbei und zog mit den Männern von Juda dem König David entgegen.	17 And there were a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him; and they went over Jordan before the king.
18 Bei ihm waren tausend Mann aus Benjamin, darunter Ziba, der Diener des Hauses Saul, mit seinen fünfzehn Söhnen und seinen zwanzig Knechten. Sie waren schon vor dem König an den Jordan gelangt	18 And there went over a ferry boat to carry over the king's household, and to do what he thought good. And Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king, as he was come over Jordan;
19 und durchschritten die Furt, um die Familie des Königs hinüberzugeleiten und alles zu tun, was dem König gut erschien. Als der König gerade den Jordan überschreiten wollte, fiel Schimi, der Sohn Geras, vor ihm nieder	19 And said unto the king, Let not my lord impute iniquity unto me, neither do thou remember that which thy servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart.
20 und sagte zu ihm: Mein Herr möge mir meine Schuld nicht anrechnen; mögest du nicht an das denken, was dein Knecht sich an dem Tag zu Schulden kommen ließ, als mein Herr, der König, Jerusalem verließ; der König nehme es sich nicht so zu Herzen;	20 For thy servant doth know that I have sinned: therefore, behold, I am come the first this day of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king.
21 denn dein Knecht weiß, dass er gesündigt hat. Sieh her, ich bin heute als Erster vom ganzen Haus Josef hergekommen, um meinem Herrn, dem König, entgegenzugehen.	21 But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the LORD's anointed?
22 Da fragte Abischai, der Sohn der Zeruja: Müsste nicht Schimi dafür mit dem Tod bestraft werden, dass er den Gesalbten des Herrn verflucht hat?	22 And David said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah, that ye should this day be adversaries unto me? shall there any man be put to death this day in Israel? for do not I know that I am this day king over Israel?
23 David aber sagte: Was habe ich mit euch zu schaffen, ihr Söhne der Zeruja? Warum benehmt ihr euch plötzlich wie Feinde von mir? Soll heute jemand in Israel getötet werden, wo ich doch weiß, dass ich ab heute wieder König von Israel bin?	23 Therefore the king said unto Shimei, Thou shalt not die. And the king sware unto him.
24 Und der König sagte zu Schimi: Du sollst nicht sterben. Der König bekräftigte es ihm mit einem Schwur.	24 And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king, and had neither dressed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came again in peace.
25 Auch Merib-Baal, der Sohn Sauls, kam dem König entgegen. Er hatte seine Füße und seinen Bart nicht mehr gepflegt und seine Kleider nicht gewaschen seit dem Tag, an dem der König weggegangen war, bis zu dem Tag, an dem er wohlbehalten zurückkam.	25 And it came to pass, when he was come to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said unto him, Wherefore wentest not thou with me, Mephibosheth?
26 Als er von Jerusalem aus dem König entgegenkam, fragte ihn der König: Warum bist du damals nicht mit mir weggegangen, Merib-Baal?	26 And he answered, My lord, O king, my servant deceived me: for thy servant said, I will saddle me an ass, that I may ride thereon, and go to the king; because thy servant is lame.
27 Er antwortete: Mein Herr und König, mein Diener hat mich hintergangen. Dein Knecht sagte zu ihm: Ich will mir die Eselin satteln und mit dem König zusammen wegreiten; dein Knecht ist ja lahm.	27 And he hath slandered thy servant unto my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God: do therefore what is good in thine eyes.
28 Man hat deinen Knecht bei meinem Herrn, dem König, verleumdet. Aber mein Herr, der König, ist wie der Engel Gottes; darum tu, was dir gefällt.	28 For all of my father's house were but dead men before my lord the king: yet didst thou set thy servant among them that did eat at thine own table. What right therefore have I yet to cry any more unto the king?
29 Obwohl das ganze Haus meines Vaters von meinem Herrn, dem König, nichts anderes als den Tod zu erwarten hatte, hast du deinen Knecht unter die aufgenommen, die an deinem Tisch essen. Was habe ich noch für ein Recht, den König weiterhin anzurufen?	29 And the king said unto him, Why speakest thou any more of thy matters? I have said, Thou and Ziba divide the land.
30 Der König antwortete ihm: Warum machst du so (viele) Worte? Ich habe bestimmt: Du und Ziba, ihr sollt euch das Land teilen.	30 And Mephibosheth said unto the king, Yea, let him take all, forasmuch as my lord the king is come again in peace unto his own house.
31 Darauf sagte Merib-Baal: Er kann auch das ganze nehmen, nachdem mein Herr, der König, wohlbehalten in sein Haus zurückgekehrt ist.	31 And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim, and went over Jordan with the king, to conduct him over Jordan.
32 Der Gileaditer Barsillai war aus Roglim herabgekommen und mit dem König an den Jordan gezogen, um ihn am Jordan zu verabschieden.	32 Now Barzillai was a very aged man, even fourscore years old: and he had provided the king of sustenance while he lay at Mahanaim; for he was a very great man.
33 Barsillai war sehr alt, ein Mann von achtzig Jahren. Er hatte den König versorgt, als dieser sich in Mahanajim aufhielt; er war nämlich sehr reich.	33 And the king said unto Barzillai, Come thou over with me, and I will feed thee with me in Jerusalem.
34 Der König sagte zu Barsillai: Zieh mit mir hinüber, ich will für dich bei mir in Jerusalem sorgen.	34 And Barzillai said unto the king, How long have I to live, that I should go up with the king unto Jerusalem?
35 Doch Barsillai antwortete dem König: Wie viele Jahre habe ich denn noch zu leben, dass ich mit dem König nach Jerusalem hinaufziehen sollte?	35 I am this day fourscore years old: and can I discern between good and evil? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king?
36 Ich bin jetzt achtzig Jahre alt. Kann ich denn noch Gutes und Böses unterscheiden? Kann dein Knecht noch Geschmack finden an dem, was er isst und trinkt? Höre ich denn noch die Stimme der Sänger und Sängerinnen? Warum soll denn dein Knecht noch meinem Herrn, dem König, zur Last fallen?	36 Thy servant will go a little way over Jordan with the king: and why should the king recompense it me with such a reward?
37 Nur eine kleine Strecke wollte dein Knecht den König zum Jordan begleiten. Warum will sich der König bei mir in dieser Weise erkenntlich zeigen?	37 Let thy servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city, and be buried by the grave of my father and of my mother. But behold thy servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good unto thee.
38 Dein Knecht möchte umkehren und in seiner Heimatstadt beim Grab seines Vaters und seiner Mutter sterben. Aber hier ist dein Knecht Kimham; er mag mit meinem Herrn, dem König, hinüberziehen. Tu für ihn, was dir gefällt.	38 And the king answered, Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good unto thee: and whatsoever thou shalt require of me, that will I do for thee.
39 Der König erwiderte: Kimham soll mit mir hinüberziehen; ich werde für ihn tun, was du für gut hältst. Alles aber, was du von mir begehrst, will ich für dich tun.	39 And all the people went over Jordan. And when the king was come over, the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned unto his own place.
40 Darauf zog das ganze Volk über den Jordan und auch der König ging hinüber. Der König küsste Barsillai und segnete ihn und Barsillai kehrte in seinen Heimatort zurück.	40 Then the king went on to Gilgal, and Chimham went on with him: and all the people of Judah conducted the king, and also half the people of Israel.
41 Der König aber zog weiter nach Gilgal und Kimham ging mit ihm. Das ganze Volk von Juda zog mit dem König, dazu halb Israel.	41 And, behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said unto the king, Why have our brethren the men of Judah stolen thee away, and have brought the king, and his household, and all David's men with him, over Jordan?
42 Da kamen alle Israeliten zum König und sagten zu ihm: Warum haben unsere Brüder, die Männer von Juda, dich uns geraubt und den König, seine Familie und alle seine Männer über den Jordan geführt?	42 And all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king is near of kin to us: wherefore then be ye angry for this matter? have we eaten at all of the king's cost? or hath he given us any gift?
43 Alle Judäer antworteten den Israeliten: Weil der König uns näher steht. Warum bist du darüber erzürnt? Haben wir denn ein Stück vom König gegessen oder ist er etwa von uns weggetragen worden?	43 And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more right in David than ye: why then did ye despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king? And the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.
44 Die Israeliten antworteten den Judäern: Ich habe zehn Anteile am König, außerdem bin ich dir gegenüber der Erstgeborene. Warum hast du mich also gering geachtet? War es nicht zuerst mein Wunsch, meinen König zurückzuholen? Die Antwort der Judäer hierauf war noch schärfer als die Rede der Israeliten.
