LA SACRA BIBBIA	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Come la neve all'estate e come la pioggia alla messe, così lo stolto è indegno della gloria.	1 As snow in summer, and rain in harvest, so glory is not seemly for a fool.
2 Come il passero svolazza, come la rondine vola via, così la maledizione senza motivo non ha effetto.	2 As a bird flying to other places, and a sparrow going here or there: so a curse uttered without cause shall come upon a man.
3 Briglia al cavallo, freno all'asino e bastone per il dorso degli stolti.	3 A whip for a horse, and a snaffle for an ass, and a rod for the back of fools.
4 Non risponder allo stolto secondo la sua stoltezza, altrimenti rassomigli a lui pure tu.	4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou be made like him.
5 Rispondi allo stolto per la sua stoltezza, perché non si creda di esser saggio.	5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he imagine himself to be wise.
6 Si mutila i piedi, beve la violenza chi invia un messaggio per mezzo di uno stolto.	6 He that sendeth words by a foolish messenger, is lame of feet and drinketh iniquity.
7 Vacillano le ginocchia dello sciancato e il proverbio sulla bocca degli stolti.	7 As a lame man hath fair legs in vain: so a parable is unseemly in the mouth of fools.
8 Come uno che mette una pietra nella fionda, così è chi dà gloria allo stolto.	8 As he that casteth a stone into the heap of Mercury: so is he that giveth honour to a fool.
9 Una spina cresce nella mano dell'ubriacone: il proverbio nella bocca degli stolti.	9 As if a thorn should grow in the hand of a drunkard: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
10 Un arciere che ferisce ogni passante è colui che ingaggia uno stolto.	10 Judgment determineth causes: and he that putteth a fool to silence, appeaseth anger.
11 Come un cane ritorna al suo vomito, lo stolto ripete la sua stoltezza.	11 As a dog that returneth to his vomit, so is the fool that repeateth his folly.
12 Vedi uno che si crede di esser saggio? C'è da sperar più dallo stolto che da lui.	12 Hast thou seen a man wise in his own conceit? there shall be more hope of a fool than of him.
13 Dice il pigro: "C'è una fiera nella strada, un leone è nelle vie!".	13 The slothful man saith: There is a lion in the way, and a lioness in the roads.
14 La porta gira sul suo cardine e il pigro sul suo letto.	14 As the door turneth upon its hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.
15 Allunga il pigro la sua mano al piatto, ma fa fatica a portarla alla sua bocca.	15 The slothful hideth his hand under his armpit, and it grieveth him to turn it to his mouth.
16 Il pigro si reputa più saggio di sette che rispondono con senno.	16 The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit, than seven men that speak sentences.
17 Come chi prende per la coda il can che passa è chi si impiccia di una lite altrui.	17 As he that taketh a dog by the ears, so is he that passeth by in anger, and meddleth with another man's quarrel.
18 Come colui che per fare il pazzo tira giavellotti, frecce e morte,	18 As he is guilty that shooteth arrows, and lances unto death :
19 così è colui che mente al suo prossimo e dice: "Non mi posso divertire?".	19 So is the man that hurteth his friend deceitfully: and when he is taken, saith: I did it in jest.
20 Finisce la legna, il fuoco si spegne; non c'è denigratore, la collera si placa.	20 When the wood faileth, the fire shall go out: and when the talebearer is taken away, contentions shall cease.
21 Carbone sulle braci e legna sopra il fuoco: è l'uomo rissoso che attizza sempre liti.	21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire, so an angry man stirreth up strife.
22 Le parole del denigratore son cibi deliziosi che scendono fino al fondo delle viscere.	22 The words of a talebearer are as it were simple, but they reach to the innermost parts of the belly.
23 Argento con scorie spalmato sulla creta: labbra ardenti e cuore malvagio.	23 Swelling lips joined with a corrupt heart, are like an earthen vessel adorned with silver dross.
24 Chi odia si maschera con le sue labbra, ma cova nel suo intimo l'inganno.	24 An enemy is known by his lips, when in his heart he entertaineth deceit.
25 Se aggrazia la sua voce non gli credere: perché ci son sette obbrobri nel suo cuore.	25 When he shall speak low, trust him not: because there are seven mischiefs in his heart.
26 Può nascondersi l'odio con la dissimulazione: ma la sua malizia si svelerà nell'assemblea.	26 He that covereth hatred deceitfully, his malice shall be laid open in the public assembly.
27 Chi scava una fossa ci cade e una pietra ricade su chi la rotola.	27 He that diggeth a pit, shall fall into it: and he that rolleth a stone, it shall return to him.
28 Una lingua bugiarda odia chi ferisce e una bocca sdolcinata produce la rovina.	28 A deceitful tongue loveth not truth: and a slippery mouth worketh ruin.
