[Prayer Of Moses, man of God] Lord, you have been our refuge from age to age. | 1 A prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, thou hast been our refuge from generation to generation. |
Before the mountains were born, before the earth and the world came to birth, from eternity to eternityyou are God. | 2 Before the mountains were made, or the earth and the world was formed; from eternity and to eternity thou art God. |
You bring human beings to the dust, by saying, 'Return, children of Adam.' | 3 Turn not man away to be brought low: and thou hast said: Be converted, O ye sons of men. |
A thousand years are to you like a yesterday which has passed, like a watch of the night. | 4 For a thousand years in thy sight are as yesterday, which is past. And as a watch in the night, |
You flood them with sleep -- in the morning they wil be like growing grass: | 5 things that are counted nothing, shall their years be. |
in the morning it is blossoming and growing, by evening it is withered and dry. | 6 In the morning man shall grow up like grass; in the morning he shall flourish and pass away: in the evening he shall fall, grow dry, and wither. |
For we have been destroyed by your wrath, dismayed by your anger. | 7 For in thy wrath we have fainted away: and are troubled in thy indignation. |
You have taken note of our guilty deeds, our secrets in the ful light of your presence. | 8 Thou hast set our iniquities before thy eyes: our life in the light of thy countenance. |
Al our days pass under your wrath, our lives are over like a sigh. | 9 For all our days are spent; and in thy wrath we have fainted away. Our years shall be considered spider: |
The span of our life is seventy years -- eighty for those who are strong -- but their whole extent isanxiety and trouble, they are over in a moment and we are gone. | 10 the days of our years in them are threescore and ten years. But if in the strong they be fourscore years: and what is more of them is labour and sorrow. For mildness is come upon us: and we shall be corrected. |
Who feels the power of your anger, or who that fears you, your wrath? | 11 Who knoweth the power of thy anger, and for thy fear |
Teach us to count up the days that are ours, and we shal come to the heart of wisdom. | 12 can number thy wrath? So make thy right hand known: and men learned in heart, in wisdom. |
Come back, Yahweh! How long must we wait? Take pity on your servants. | 13 Return, O Lord, how long? and be entreated in favour of thy servants. |
Each morning fill us with your faithful love, we shal sing and be happy all our days; | 14 We are filled in the morning with thy mercy: and we have rejoiced, and are delighted all our days. |
let our joy be as long as the time that you afflicted us, the years when we experienced disaster. | 15 We have rejoiced for the days in which thou hast humbled us: for the years in which we have seen evils. |
Show your servants the deeds you do, let their children enjoy your splendour! | 16 Look upon thy servants and upon their works: and direct their children. |
May the sweetness of the Lord be upon us, to confirm the work we have done! | 17 And let the brightness of the Lord our God be upon us: and direct thou the works of our hands over us; yea, the work of our hands do thou direct. |
