LXXNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
επικαλεσαι δε ει τις σοι υπακουσεται η ει τινα αγγελων αγιων οψη1 Call now! Will anyone respond to you? To which of the holy ones will you appeal?
και γαρ αφρονα αναιρει οργη πεπλανημενον δε θανατοι ζηλος2 Nay, impatience kills the fool and indignation slays the simpleton.
εγω δε εωρακα αφρονας ριζαν βαλλοντας αλλ' ευθεως εβρωθη αυτων η διαιτα3 I have seen a fool spreading his roots, but his household suddenly decayed.
πορρω γενοιντο οι υιοι αυτων απο σωτηριας κολαβρισθειησαν δε επι θυραις ησσονων και ουκ εσται ο εξαιρουμενος4 His children shall be far from safety; they shall be crushed at the gate without a rescuer.
α γαρ εκεινοι συνηγαγον δικαιοι εδονται αυτοι δε εκ κακων ουκ εξαιρετοι εσονται εκσιφωνισθειη αυτων η ισχυς5 What they have reaped the hungry shall eat up; (or God shall take it away by blight;) and the thirsty shall swallow their substance.
ου γαρ μη εξελθη εκ της γης κοπος ουδε εξ ορεων αναβλαστησει πονος6 For mischief comes not out of the earth, nor does trouble spring out of the ground;
αλλα ανθρωπος γενναται κοπω νεοσσοι δε γυπος τα υψηλα πετονται7 But man himself begets mischief, as sparks fly upward.
ου μην δε αλλα εγω δεηθησομαι κυριου κυριον δε τον παντων δεσποτην επικαλεσομαι8 In your place, I would appeal to God, and to God I would state my plea.
τον ποιουντα μεγαλα και ανεξιχνιαστα ενδοξα τε και εξαισια ων ουκ εστιν αριθμος9
τον διδοντα υετον επι την γην αποστελλοντα υδωρ επι την υπ' ουρανον10 He gives rain upon the earth and sends water upon the fields;
τον ποιουντα ταπεινους εις υψος και απολωλοτας εξεγειροντα11 He sets up on high the lowly, and those who mourn he exalts to safety.
διαλλασσοντα βουλας πανουργων και ου μη ποιησουσιν αι χειρες αυτων αληθες12 He frustrates the plans of the cunning, so that their hands achieve no success;
ο καταλαμβανων σοφους εν τη φρονησει βουλην δε πολυπλοκων εξεστησεν13 He catches the wise in their own ruses, and the designs of the crafty are routed.
ημερας συναντησεται αυτοις σκοτος το δε μεσημβρινον ψηλαφησαισαν ισα νυκτι14 They meet with darkness in the daytime, and at noonday they grope as though it were night.
απολοιντο δε εν πολεμω αδυνατος δε εξελθοι εκ χειρος δυναστου15 But the poor from the edge of the sword and from the hand of the mighty, he saves.
ειη δε αδυνατω ελπις αδικου δε στομα εμφραχθειη16 Thus the unfortunate have hope, and iniquity closes her mouth.
μακαριος δε ανθρωπος ον ηλεγξεν ο κυριος νουθετημα δε παντοκρατορος μη απαναινου17 Happy is the man whom God reproves! The Almighty's chastening do not reject.
αυτος γαρ αλγειν ποιει και παλιν αποκαθιστησιν επαισεν και αι χειρες αυτου ιασαντο18 For he wounds, but he binds up; he smites, but his hands give healing.
εξακις εξ αναγκων σε εξελειται εν δε τω εβδομω ου μη αψηται σου κακον19 Out of six troubles he will deliver you, and at the seventh no evil shall touch you.
εν λιμω ρυσεται σε εκ θανατου εν πολεμω δε εκ χειρος σιδηρου λυσει σε20 In famine he will deliver you from death, and in war from the threat of the sword;
απο μαστιγος γλωσσης σε κρυψει και ου μη φοβηθης απο κακων ερχομενων21 From the scourge of the tongue you shall be hidden, and shall not fear approaching ruin.
αδικων και ανομων καταγελαση απο δε θηριων αγριων ου μη φοβηθης22 At destruction and want you shall laugh; the beasts of the earth you need not dread.
θηρες γαρ αγριοι ειρηνευσουσιν σοι23 You shall be in league with the stones of the field, and the wild beasts shall be at peace with you.
ειτα γνωση οτι ειρηνευσει σου ο οικος η δε διαιτα της σκηνης σου ου μη αμαρτη24 And you shall know that your tent is secure; taking stock of your household, you shall miss nothing.
γνωση δε οτι πολυ το σπερμα σου τα δε τεκνα σου εσται ωσπερ το παμβοτανον του αγρου25 You shall know that your descendants are many, and your offspring as the grass of the earth.
ελευση δε εν ταφω ωσπερ σιτος ωριμος κατα καιρον θεριζομενος η ωσπερ θιμωνια αλωνος καθ' ωραν συγκομισθεισα26 You shall approach the grave in full vigor, as a shock of grain comes in at its season.
ιδου ταυτα ουτως εξιχνιασαμεν ταυτα εστιν α ακηκοαμεν συ δε γνωθι σεαυτω ει τι επραξας27 Lo, this we have searched out; so it is! This we have heard, and you should know.
