EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 ¡Clama, a ver si alguien te responde! ¿A cuál de los santos te volverás?	1 Make your appeal then. Wil you find an answer? To which of the holy ones wil you turn?
2 Porque la exasperación mata al insensato y la pasión hace morir al necio.	2 Resentment kil s the senseless, and anger brings death to the fool.
3 Yo he visto al insensato echar raíces, pero al instante maldije su morada.	3 I have seen the senseless taking root, when a curse fel suddenly on his house.
4 Sus hijos estarán lejos de toda ayuda, aplastados en la Puerta, sin que nadie los libre.	4 His children are deprived of prop and stay, ruined at the gate, and no one to defend them;
5 Lo que ellos cosechen se lo comerá el hambriento, y el sediento suspirará por sus riquezas.	5 their harvest goes to feed the hungry, God snatches it from their mouths, and covetous people thirst fortheir possessions.
6 No, el mal no sale del suelo ni la miseria brota de la tierra:	6 No, misery does not grow out of the soil, nor sorrow spring from the ground.
7 es el hombre el que engendra la miseria, como las águilas levantan vuelo hacia lo alto.	7 It is people who breed trouble for themselves as surely as eagles fly to the height.
8 Yo, por mi parte, buscaría a Dios, a él le expondría mi causa.	8 If I were you, I should appeal to God and lay my case before him.
9 El realiza obras grandes e inescrutables, maravillas que no se pueden enumerar.	9 His works are great, past al reckoning, marvels beyond al counting.
10 Derrama la lluvia sobre la tierra y hace correr el agua por los campos.	10 He sends down rain to the earth, pours down water on the fields.
11 Pone a los humildes en las alturas y los afligidos alcanzan la salvación.	11 If his wil is to raise up the downcast, or exalt the afflicted to the heights of prosperity,
12 Hace fracasar los proyectos de los astutos para que no prospere el trabajo de sus manos.	12 he frustrates the plans of the artful so that they cannot succeed in their intrigues.
13 Sorprende a los sabios en su propia astucia y el plan de los malvados se deshace rápidamente.	13 He traps the crafty in the snare of their own trickery, throws the plans of the cunning into disarray.
14 En pleno día, chocan contra las tinieblas, y andan a tientas al mediodía, como si fuera de noche.	14 In daylight they come up against darkness, and grope their way as if noon were night.
15 El salva al huérfano de la espada, y al indigente, de la mano del poderoso.	15 He rescues the bankrupt from their jaws, and the needy from the grasp of the mighty.
16 Así, el débil recupera la esperanza y los malvados cierran la boca.	16 Hope springs afresh for the weak, and wickedness must shut its mouth.
17 ¡Feliz el hombre a quien Dios reprende y que no desdeña la lección del Todopoderoso!	17 Blessed are those whom God corrects! Do not then scorn the lesson of Shaddai!
18 Porque él hiere, pero venda la herida; golpea, pero sana con sus manos.	18 For he who wounds is he who soothes the sore, and the hand that hurts is the hand that heals.
19 Seis veces te librará de la angustia, y la séptima, el mal no te alcanzará.	19 Six times he wil deliver you from sorrow, and the seventh time, evil wil not touch you.
20 En tiempo de hambre, te librará de la muerte, y en la guerra, del filo de la espada.	20 In time of famine, he wil save you from death, and in wartime from the stroke of the sword.
21 Estarás protegido contra el azote de las malas lenguas y no temerás cuando llegue la devastación.	21 You will be safe from the lash of the tongue, unafraid at the approach of the despoiler.
22 Te reirás de la devastación y del hambre y no temerás a las fieras de la tierra.	22 You will laugh at drought and frost, and have no fear of the beasts of the earth.
23 Sí, tendrás una alianza con las piedras del campo y las fieras estarán en paz contigo.	23 You will have a pact with the stones of the field, and live in amity with wild beasts.
24 Sabrás que en tu carpa hay prosperidad, y cuando revises tu morada, nada faltará.	24 You will know that your tent is secure, and your sheepfold unharmed when you inspect it.
25 Verás que se multiplica tu descendencia y que tus retoños son como la hierba de la tierra.	25 You will see your descendants multiply, your offspring grow like the grass in the fields.
26 Llegarás a la tumba lleno de vigor como se levanta una parva a su debido tiempo.	26 At a ripe age you wil go to the grave, like a wheatsheaf stacked in due season.
27 Esto es lo que hemos comprobado, y es así: escúchalo bien, y saca provecho.	27 Al this we have observed and it is so! Heed it, you wil be the wiser for it!
