Ad Corinthios I 6

VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
Audet aliquis vestrum habens negotium adversus alterum, judicari apud iniquos, et non apud sanctos ?1 Is one of you with a complaint against another so brazen as to seek judgement from sinners and notfrom God's holy people?
an nescitis quoniam sancti de hoc mundo judicabunt ? et si in vobis judicabitur mundus, indigni estis qui de minimis judicetis ?2 Do you not realise that the holy people of God are to be the judges of the world? And if the world is tobe judged by you, are you not competent for petty cases?
Nescitis quoniam angelos judicabimus ? quanto magis sæcularia ?3 Do you not realise that we shal be the judges of angels? - then quite certainly over matters of this life.
Sæcularia igitur judicia si habueritis : contemptibiles, qui sunt in ecclesia, illos constituite ad judicandum.4 But when you have matters of this life to be judged, you bring them before those who are of no accountin the Church!
Ad verecundiam vestram dico. Sic non est inter vos sapiens quisquam, qui possit judicare inter fratrem suum ?5 I say this to make you ashamed of yourselves. Can it real y be that it is impossible to find in thecommunity one sensible person capable of deciding questions between brothers,
Sed frater cum fratre judicio contendit : et hoc apud infideles ?6 and that this is why brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers?
Jam quidem omnino delictum est in vobis, quod judicia habetis inter vos. Quare non magis injuriam accipitis ? quare non magis fraudem patimini ?7 No; it is a fault in you, by itself, that one of you should go to law against another at al : why do you notprefer to suffer injustice, why not prefer to be defrauded?
Sed vos injuriam facitis, et fraudatis : et hoc fratribus.
And here you are, doing the injustice and the defrauding, and to your own brothers.
An nescitis quia iniqui regnum Dei non possidebunt ? Nolite errare : neque fornicarii, neque idolis servientes, neque adulteri,9 Do you not realise that people who do evil wil never inherit the kingdom of God? Make no mistake --the sexual y immoral, idolaters, adulterers, the self-indulgent, sodomites,
neque molles, neque masculorum concubitores, neque fures, neque avari, neque ebriosi, neque maledici, neque rapaces regnum Dei possidebunt.10 thieves, misers, drunkards, slanderers and swindlers, none of these wil inherit the kingdom of God.
Et hæc quidam fuistis : sed abluti estis, sed sanctificati estis, sed justificati estis in nomine Domini nostri Jesu Christi, et in Spiritu Dei nostri.11 Some of you used to be of that kind: but you have been washed clean, you have been sanctified, andyou have been justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and through the Spirit of our God.
Omnia mihi licent, sed non omnia expediunt : omnia mihi licent, sed ego sub nullis redigar potestate.12 'For me everything is permissible'; maybe, but not everything does good. True, for me everything ispermissible, but I am determined not to be dominated by anything.
Esca ventri, et venter escis : Deus autem et hunc et has destruet : corpus autem non fornicationi, sed Domino : et Dominus corpori.13 Foods are for the stomach, and the stomach is for foods; and God wil destroy them both. But thebody is not for sexual immorality;
Deus vero et Dominum suscitavit : et nos suscitabit per virtutem suam.14 it is for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body. God raised up the Lord and he will raise us up too by hispower.
Nescitis quoniam corpora vestra membra sunt Christi ? Tollens ergo membra Christi, faciam membra meretricis ? Absit.15 Do you not realise that your bodies are members of Christ's body; do you think one can take parts ofChrist's body and join them to the body of a prostitute? Out of the question!
An nescitis quoniam qui adhæret meretrici, unum corpus efficitur ? Erunt enim (inquit) duo in carne una.16 Or do you not realise that anyone who attaches himself to a prostitute is one body with her, since thetwo, as it is said, become one flesh.
Qui autem adhæret Domino, unus spiritus est.17 But anyone who attaches himself to the Lord is one spirit with him.
Fugite fornicationem. Omne peccatum, quodcumque fecerit homo, extra corpus est : qui autem fornicatur, in corpus suum peccat.18 Keep away from sexual immorality. Al other sins that people may commit are done outside the body;but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.
An nescitis quoniam membra vestra, templum sunt Spiritus Sancti, qui in vobis est, quem habetis a Deo, et non estis vestri ?19 Do you not realise that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you and whom youreceived from God?
Empti enim estis pretio magno. Glorificate, et portate Deum in corpore vestro.20 You are not your own property, then; you have been bought at a price. So use your body for the gloryof God.
