1 Locutusque est Dominus ad Moysen et Aaron, dicens :	1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:
2 Tolle summam filiorum Caath de medio Levitarum per domos et familias suas,	2 'Take a census by clans and families of the Levites descended from Kohath:
3 a trigesimo anno et supra, usque ad quinquagesimum annum, omnium qui ingrediuntur ut stent et ministrent in tabernaculo fœderis.	3 al the men between thirty and fifty years of age and eligible for military service, who will have theirduties in the Tent of Meeting.
4 Hic est cultus filiorum Caath : tabernaculum fœderis, et Sanctum sanctorum	4 'These are the duties of the Kohathites: looking after those things that are especial y holy.
5 ingredientur Aaron et filii ejus, quando movenda sunt castra, et deponent velum quod pendet ante fores, involventque eo arcam testimonii,	5 'When camp is broken, Aaron and his sons must come and take down the screening curtain, and coverthe ark of the Testimony with it.
6 et operient rursum velamine janthinarum pellium, extendentque desuper pallium totum hyacinthinum, et inducent vectes.	6 Over this, they will put a covering of fine leather, over which they wil spread a cloth entirely of violet-purple. They wil then fix the poles to the ark.
7 Mensam quoque propositionis involvent hyacinthino pallio, et ponent cum ea thuribula et mortariola, cyathos et crateras ad liba fundenda : panes semper in ea erunt :	7 'Over the offertory table they wil spread a violet cloth, and on it put the dishes, cups, bowls and libationjars; the bread of permanent offering will also be on it.
8 extendentque desuper pallium coccineum, quod rursum operient velamento janthinarum pellium, et inducent vectes.	8 Over these they will spread a scarlet cloth and cover the whole with a covering of fine leather. They willthen fix the poles to the table.
9 Sument et pallium hyacinthinum, quo operient candelabrum cum lucernis et forcipibus suis et emunctoriis et cunctis vasis olei, quæ ad concinnandas lucernas necessaria sunt :	9 'They wil then take a violet cloth and cover the lamp-stand, its lamps, snuffers, trays and al the oil jars used for it,
10 et super omnia ponent operimentum janthinarum pellium, et inducent vectes.	10 and wil lay it and al its accessories in a covering of fine leather and put it on the litter.
11 Necnon et altare aureum involvent hyacinthino vestimento, et extendent desuper operimentum janthinarum pellium, inducentque vectes.	11 'Over the golden altar they wil spread a violet cloth, and cover that with a covering of fine leather.They wil then fix the poles to it.
12 Omnia vasa, quibus ministratur in sanctuario, involvent hyacinthino pallio, et extendent desuper operimentum janthinarum pellium, inducentque vectes.	12 'They wil then take al the other objects used in the service of the sanctuary, put them in a violetcloth, with a covering of fine leather, and put it al on the litter.
13 Sed et altare mundabunt cinere, et involvent illud purpureo vestimento,	13 'When they have removed the ashes from the altar, they wil spread a scarlet cloth over it,
14 ponentque cum eo omnia vasa, quibus in ministerio ejus utuntur, id est, ignium receptacula, fuscinulas ac tridentes, uncinos et batilla. Cuncta vasa altaris operient simul velamine janthinarum pellium, et inducent vectes.	14 and on this place all the objects used in the liturgy, the fire pans, hooks, scoops, sprinkling basins andal the altar accessories. Over this they will spread a covering of fine leather. They wil then fix the poles to it.
15 Cumque involverint Aaron et filii ejus sanctuarium et omnia vasa ejus in commotione castrorum, tunc intrabunt filii Caath ut portent involuta : et non tangent vasa sanctuarii, ne moriantur. Ista sunt onera filiorum Caath in tabernaculo fœderis :	15 'Once Aaron and his sons have finished covering the holy things and all their accessories at thebreaking of camp, the Kohathites wil come and carry them, but without touching any of the holy things on pain ofdeath. Such is the load for the Kohathites in the Tent of Meeting.
16 super quos erit Eleazar filius Aaron sacerdotis, ad cujus curam pertinet oleum ad concinnandas lucernas, et compositionis incensum, et sacrificium, quod semper offertur, et oleum unctionis, et quidquid ad cultum tabernaculi pertinet, omniumque vasorum, quæ in sanctuario sunt.	16 But Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, is responsible for looking after the oil for the light, the fragrantincense, the daily cereal offering and the anointing oil, and for supervising the entire Dwel ing and everything init, the holy things and their accessories.'
17 Locutusque est Dominus ad Moysen et Aaron, dicens :	17 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:
18 Nolite perdere populum Caath de medio Levitarum :	18 'You must not let the group of Kohathite clans be lost to the rest of the Levites.
19 sed hoc facite eis, ut vivant, et non moriantur, si tetigerint Sancta sanctorum. Aaron et filii ejus intrabunt, ipsique disponent opera singulorum, et divident quid portare quis debeat.	19 But deal with them in this way, so that they may survive and not incur death by approaching thosethings that are especial y holy. Aaron and his sons wil go in and assign to each of them his task and load,
20 Alii nulla curiositate videant quæ sunt in sanctuario priusquam involvantur, alioquin morientur.	20 in such a way that they have no need to incur the death penalty by going in and setting eyes on theholy things, even for an instant.'
21 Locutusque est Dominus ad Moysen, dicens :	21 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:
22 Tolle summam etiam filiorum Gerson per domos ac familias et cognationes suas,	22 'Take a census of the Gershonites by families and clans, too:
23 a triginta annis et supra, usque ad annos quinquaginta. Numera omnes qui ingrediuntur et ministrant in tabernaculo fœderis.	23 al the men between thirty and fifty years of age, eligible for military service, who will have their dutiesin the Tent of Meeting.
24 Hoc est officium familiæ Gersonitarum,	24 'These are the duties of the Gershonite clans, their functions and their loads.
25 ut portent cortinas tabernaculi et tectum fœderis, operimentum aliud, et super omnia velamen janthinum tentoriumque quod pendet in introitu tabernaculi fœderis,	25 They wil carry the curtaining of the Dwel ing, the Tent of Meeting with its covering and the covering offine leather that goes over it, the screen for the entrance to the Tent of Meeting,
26 cortinas atrii, et velum in introitu quod est ante tabernaculum. 'They wil be responsible forthese things.
27 jubente Aaron et filiis ejus, portabunt filii Gerson : et scient singuli cui debeant oneri mancipari.	27 Al the duties of the Gershonites, their functions and their loads, will be carried out under the directionof Aaron and his sons: you wil see that they fulfil their charge.
28 Hic est cultus familiæ Gersonitarum in tabernaculo fœderis, eruntque sub manu Ithamar filii Aaron sacerdotis.	28 Such are the duties of the Gershonite clans in the Tent of Meeting. Their work wil be supervised byIthamar, son of Aaron the priest.
29 Filios quoque Merari per familias et domos patrum suorum recensebis,	29 'You will take a census of the Merarites by clans and families.
30 a triginta annis et supra, usque ad annos quinquaginta, omnes qui ingrediuntur ad officium ministerii sui et cultum fœderis testimonii.	30 You will take a census of al the men between thirty and fifty years of age, eligible for military service,who wil have their duties in the Tent of Meeting.
31 Hæc sunt onera eorum : portabunt tabulas tabernaculi et vectes ejus, columnas ac bases earum,	31 'The load they carry and the duties incumbent on them in the Tent of Meeting will be as fol ows: theframework of the Dwel ing, its cross-bars, poles and sockets,
32 columnas quoque atrii per circuitum cum basibus et paxillis et funibus suis. Omnia vasa et supellectilem ad numerum accipient, sicque portabunt.	32 the poles round the court with their sockets, pegs, cords and al their tackle. You wil draw up a list oftheir names with the loads for which each is responsible.
33 Hoc est officium familiæ Meraritarum et ministerium in tabernaculo fœderis : eruntque sub manu Ithamar filii Aaron sacerdotis.	33 'Such are the duties of the Merarite clans. Al their duties in the Tent of Meeting wil be supervised byIthamar, son of Aaron the priest.'
34 Recensuerunt igitur Moyses et Aaron et principes synagogæ filios Caath per cognationes et domos patrum suorum,	34 Moses, Aaron and the leaders of the community took a census of the Kohathites by clans andfamilies:
35 a triginta annis et supra, usque ad annum quinquagesimum, omnes qui ingrediuntur ad ministerium tabernaculi fœderis :	35 al the men between thirty and fifty years of age, eligible for military service, for duties in the Tent ofMeeting.
36 et inventi sunt duo millia septingenti quinquaginta.	36 The number of men counted in their clans came to two thousand seven hundred and fifty.
37 Hic est numerus populi Caath qui intrant tabernaculum fœderis : hos numeravit Moyses et Aaron juxta sermonem Domini per manum Moysi.	37 Such was the total number of men in the Kohathite clans who were eligible for duties in the Tent ofMeeting and whom Moses and Aaron counted at Yahweh's bidding through Moses.
38 Numerati sunt et filii Gerson per cognationes et domos patrum suorum,	38 A census was taken of the Gershonites by clans and families:
39 a triginta annos et supra, usque ad quinquagesimum annum, omnes qui ingrediuntur ut ministrent in tabernaculo fœderis :	39 al the men between thirty and fifty years of age, eligible for military service, for duties in the Tent ofMeeting.
40 et inventi sunt duo millia sexcenti triginta.	40 The number of men counted in their clans and families came to two thousand six hundred and thirty.
41 Hic est populus Gersonitarum, quos numeraverunt Moyses et Aaron juxta verbum Domini.	41 Such was the total number of men in the Gershonite clans who were eligible for duties in the Tent ofMeeting, and whom Moses and Aaron counted at Yahweh's bidding.
42 Numerati sunt et filii Merari per cognationes et domos patrum suorum,	42 A census was taken of the Merarite clans by clans and families:
43 a triginta annis et supra, usque ad annum quinquagesimum, omnes qui ingrediuntur ad explendos ritus tabernaculi fœderis :	43 al the men between thirty and fifty years of age, eligible for military service, for duties in the Tent of Meeting.
44 et inventi sunt tria millia ducenti.	44 The number of men counted in their clans came to three thousand two hundred.
45 Hic est numerus filiorum Merari, quos recensuerunt Moyses et Aaron juxta imperium Domini per manum Moysi.	45 Such was the total number of men in the Merarite clans, whom Moses and Aaron counted atYahweh's bidding through Moses.
46 Omnes qui recensiti sunt de Levitis, et quos recenseri fecit ad nomen Moyses et Aaron, et principes Israël per cognationes et domos patrum suorum,	46 The total number of Levites whom Moses, Aaron and the leaders of Israel counted in their clans andfamilies,
47 a triginta annis et supra, usque ad annum quinquagesimum, ingredientes ad ministerium tabernaculi, et onera portanda,	47 al the men between thirty and fifty years of age, eligible for religious duties and for those oftransporting the Tent of Meeting
48 fuerunt simul octo millia quingenti octoginta.	48 came to eight thousand five hundred and eighty.
49 Juxta verbum Domini recensuit eos Moyses, unumquemque juxta officium et onera sua, sicut præceperat ei Dominus.	49 At Yahweh's bidding through Moses, a census was taken of them and each man was assigned hisduty and load. And so the census was conducted by Moses as Yahweh had ordered him.
