1 Ed ecco che dopo questo si levò il rumore in Efraim. Imperciò che coloro i quali passarono verso l'aquilone sì dissono a Iefte: perchè andando tu alla battaglia contro ai figliuoli di Ammon, tu non ci volesti chiamare acciò che noi venissimo teco? E però noi arderemo a fuoco la casa tua.	1 And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thine house upon thee with fire.
2 Ai quali rispose Iefte: egli era a me, e al popolo il quale era meco, una grande briga contro ai figliuoli d'Ammon, (che mi costringeva fortemente); e io vi chiamai, che voi mi deste (tanto) aiuto, e non voleste dare.	2 And Jephthah said unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye delivered me not out of their hands.
3 E veggendo ciò, mèssi nelle mie mani l'anima (e la vita) mia (mettendomi a pericolo). E passai (oltre) ai figliuoli di Ammon; e Iddio sì gli mise nelle mie mani. Che ho io meritato, che vi siete levati contro a me per combattere?	3 And when I saw that ye delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand: wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?
4 E chiamati a sè tutti quanti gli uomini di Galaad, sì combattevano forte contro quegli di Efraim; e sconfissono gli uomini di Galaad quelli di Efraim; imperciò che aveano detto, che Galaad era fuggito (e iscacciato) di Efraim; e abita ora in mezzo di Efraim e di Manasse.	4 Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites.
5 E occuparono quelli di Galaad (il secco del Giordano, i quali diedono) i passi del (fiume) Giordano, per li quali doveano tornare quelli di Efraim. E vegnendo a questi passi uno uomo di Efraim fuggendo, e disse: prego te, che mi lasci passare, diceano allora quelli di Galaad : or non se' tu di Efraim? (cioè de' nemici); il quale rispondendo (disse): non sono,	5 And the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it was so, that when those Ephraimites which were escaped said, Let me go over; that the men of Gilead said unto him, Art thou an Ephraimite? If he said, Nay;
6 domandavangli quelli (di Galaad, e dicevano): dì adunque SCIBBOLETH, che tanto è a dire quanto Spiga. Il quale sì rispose, (e disse): SIBBOLETH, non sapiendo proferire nè dire Spiga in quella medesima lettera. E incontanente sì gli pigliarono le vene della gola, e sì lo scannarono in quello passare del (fiume) Giordano. E furono morti in quello tempo di Efraim XLII milia di uomini.	6 Then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.
7 E giudicò Iefte (e resse) i figliuoli d' Israel sei anni; e morì, e fue sotterrato nella città sua di Galaad.	7 And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then died Jephthah the Gileadite, and was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.
8 E dopo Iefte giudicò (e resse) Israel Abesan di Betleem,	8 And after him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.
9 il quale sì ebbe XXX figliuoli e trenta figliuole, le quali mandandole fuori di casa, a tutte diede marito; e a' suoi medesimi XXX figliuoli diede XXX mogli, menando tutte le nuore sue (cioè le mogli de' suoi figliuoli) a casa sua propria. Il quale giudicò (e resse) Israel sette anni.	9 And he had thirty sons, and thirty daughters, whom he sent abroad, and took in thirty daughters from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.
10 E morì, e fue sotterrato in Betleem.	10 Then died Ibzan, and was buried at Bethlehem.
11 Dopo il quale sì venne Aialon della schiatta di Zabulon; e giudicò (e resse) Israel X anni.	11 And after him Elon, a Zebulonite, judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.
12 E morì, e fue sotterrato in Zabulon.	12 And Elon the Zebulonite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the country of Zebulun.
13 E dopo costui (resse e) giudicò Israel Abdon, figliuolo di Illel, Faratonito;	13 And after him Abdon the son of Hillel, a Pirathonite, judged Israel.
14 il quale ebbe quaranta figliuoli e XXX di loro nepoti (ed ebbe nepoti), i quali tutti andavano sopra (e a cavallo) a LXX poledri figliuoli d' asine; e giudicò Israel otto anni.	14 And he had forty sons and thirty nephews, that rode on threescore and ten ass colts: and he judged Israel eight years.
15 E morì, e fue sotterrato (e riposto) in Faraton della terra di Efraim, nel monte di Amalec.	15 And Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the mount of the Amalekites.
