1 Parole del re Lamuele, visione colla quale lo istruì sua madre.	1 The words of king Lamuel. The vision by which his mother instructed him:
2 E che (dirti), o mio diletto? Che mai, o diletto del mio seno? Quale cosa, o diletto dei miei voti?	2 “What, O my beloved? What, O beloved of my womb? What, O beloved of my vows?
3 Non dare i tuoi boni alle donne, e le tue ricchezze a distruggere i re.	3 Do not give your substance to women, or your riches to overthrow kings.
4 Non dare, o Lamuele, non dare il vino ai re; perchè non vi è segreto dove regna l'ebbrezza;	4 Not to kings, O Lamuel, not to kings give wine. For there are no secrets where drunkenness reigns.
5 perchè forse dopo aver bevuto, dimentican la legge, e tradiscon la causa dei figli del povero.	5 And perhaps they may drink and forget judgments, and alter the case of the sons of the poor.
6 Date la sicera agli afflitti, e il vino a quelli che hanno l'animo straziato.	6 Give strong drink to the grieving, and wine to those who are bitter in soul.
7 Che bevano e dimentichino la loro miseria, e non si ricordino più del loro dolere.	7 Let them drink, and forget their needs, and remember their sorrow no more.
8 Apri la tua bocca in favore del muto e per difendere la causa di tutti i pellegrini.	8 Open your mouth for the mute and for all the cases of the sons who are passing through.
9 Apri la tua bocca, decreta ciò che è giusto, e rendi giustizia all'indigente e al povero.	9 Open your mouth, declare what is just, and do justice to the indigent and the poor.
10 La donna forte chi potrà trovarla? Più delle perle venute dall'estremità della terra essa vale,	10 Who shall find a strong woman? Far away, and from the furthest parts, is her price.
11 in lei confida il cuore del suo sposo e non mancheranno le ricchezze.	11 The heart of her husband confides in her, and he will not be deprived of spoils.
12 Essa gli darà sempre gioie e mai dispiaceri per tutto il tempo della sua vita.	12 She will repay him with good, and not evil, all the days of her life.
13 Essa, procuratasi della lana e del lino, li lavora colle sue mani capaci.	13 She has sought wool and flax, and she has worked these by the counsel of her hands.
14 Simile a nave mercantile, da lungi fa venire il suo vitto.	14 She has become like a merchant’s ship, bringing her bread from far away.
15 Alzandosi quando è ancor notte, distribuisce le porzioni ai suoi domestici, e il vitto alle sue ancelle.	15 And she has risen in the night, and given a prey to her household, and provisions to her maids.
16 Adocchiato un campo l'acquista, col frutto del suo lavoro pianta una vigna.	16 She has considered a field and bought it. From the fruit of her own hands, she has planted a vineyard.
17 Essa cinge di forza i suoi fianchi e rende forte il suo braccio.	17 She has wrapped her waist with fortitude, and she has strengthened her arm.
18 Avendo provato con gioia e veduto che il suo lavoro le frutta, non fa spegnere durante la notte la sua lucerna.	18 She has tasted and seen that her tasks are good; her lamp shall not be extinguished at night.
19 Mette mano alta cose forti, e le sue dita maneggiano il fuso.	19 She has put her hand to strong things, and her fingers have taken hold of the spindle.
20 Apre la mano ai miseri e stende le palme ai bisognosi.	20 She has opened her hand to the needy, and she has extended her hands to the poor.
21 Non teme per la sua famiglia i freddi della neve, chè tutti i suoi domestici han doppi vestiti.	21 She shall not fear, in the cold of snow, for her household. For all those of her household have been clothed two-fold.
22 Si è fatta una veste ricamata, e il suo vestito è di bisso e di porpora.	22 She has made embroidered clothing for herself. Fine linen and purple is her garment.
23 Rinomato è alle porte il suo marito, quando siede tra gli anziani del posto.	23 Her husband is noble at the gates, when he sits among the senators of the land.
24 Essa fa dei finissimi tessuti e li vende, e delle cinture che dà al Cananeo.	24 She has made finely woven cloth and sold it, and she has delivered a waistband to the Canaanite.
25 Vestita di fortezza e di decoro può andar lieta incontro all'avvenire.	25 Strength and elegance are her clothing, and she will laugh in the final days.
26 Apre la sua bocca alla sapienza, e la legge della bontà è nella sua lingua.	26 She has opened her mouth to wisdom, and the law of clemency is on her tongue.
27 Sorveglia l'andamento della sua casa e non mangia il pane senza far nulla.	27 She has considered the paths of her household, and she has not eaten her bread in idleness.
28 Sorgono i suoi figli a proclamarla oltremodo felice e il suo marito la loda.	28 Her sons rose up and predicted great happiness; her husband rose up and praised her.
29 « Molte figlie ammassarono ricchezze, ma tu le hai superate tutte ».	29 Many daughters have gathered together riches; you have surpassed them all.
30 L'avvenenza è un inganno, la bellezza è un'ombra: la donna che teme il Signore, quella sarà lodata.	30 Charm is false, and beauty is vain. The woman who fears the Lord, the same shall be praised.
31 Date a lei il frutto del suo lavoro, e le sue opere la lodino alle porte.	31 Give to her from the fruit of her own hands. And let her works praise her at the gates.
