1 These were the stages of the journey made by the Israelites when they left Egypt in their companiesunder the leadership of Moses and Aaron.	1 Voici les étapes des Israélites après leur sortie du pays d’Égypte sous la conduite de Moïse et d’Aaron.
2 Moses recorded their starting-points in writing whenever they moved on at Yahweh's order. Thestages, from one starting-point to another, were as fol ows:	2 Moïse nota les points de départ de chacune de leurs étapes ordonnées par Yahvé. En voici donc le relevé:
3 They left Rameses in the first month. It was the fifteenth day of the first month, the day following thePassover, when the Israelites confidently set out, under the eyes of al Egypt.	3 Ils partirent de Ramsès le quinzième jour du premier mois. C’était le lendemain de la Pâque, et les Israélites sortirent la tête haute sous les yeux de toute l’Égypte,
4 The Egyptians were burying those of their own people whom Yahweh had struck down, all the first-born; Yahweh had carried out his judgement on their gods.	4 tandis que les Égyptiens enterraient tous les leurs, tous les premiers-nés qui avaient été frappés par Yahvé. Yahvé avait fait justice de leurs dieux.
5 The Israelites left Rameses and camped at Succoth.	5 Les Israélites partirent donc de Ramsès et campèrent à Soukkoth.
6 Then they left Succoth and encamped at Etham which is on the edge of the desert.	6 Partis de Soukkoth, ils campèrent à Étam à la limite du désert.
7 They left Etham, turned back to Pi-Hahiroth, opposite Baal-Zephon, and encamped before Migdol.	7 Partis d’Étam, ils revinrent sur Pi-Hahirot en face de Baal-Séfon et campèrent devant Migdol.
8 They left Pi-Hahiroth, crossed the sea into the desert, and after marching for three days in the desertof Etham they encamped at Marah.	8 Partis de Pi-Hahirot, ils passèrent à travers la mer en direction du désert et, après trois jours de marche dans le désert d’Étam, ils campèrent à Mara.
9 They left Marah and reached Elim. At Elim there were twelve springs of water and seventy palmtrees; they encamped there.	9 Partis de Mara, ils arrivèrent à Élim, l’oasis des 12 sources et des 70 palmiers, et ils y campèrent.

38 The priest Aaron went up Mount Hor on Yahweh's orders and died there in the fortieth year of theexodus of the Israelites from Egypt, in the fifth month, on the first day of the month.	38 Aaron le prêtre monta à Hor-la-Montagne sur l’ordre de Yahvé, et c’est là qu’il mourut en la quarantième année après la sortie d’Égypte des Israélites. C’était le premier jour du cinquième mois,
39 Aaron was a hundred and twenty-three years old when he died on Mount Hor.	39 Aaron était âgé de 123 ans lorsqu’il mourut à Hor-la-Montagne.
40 The king of Arad, the Canaanite who lived in the Negeb of Canaan, heard of the Israelites' arrival.	40 (Le roi d’Arad, un Cananéen qui habitait le Négueb du pays de Canaan apprit l’arrivée des Israélites.)
41 They left Mount Hor and encamped at Zalmonah.	41 Partis de Hor-la-Montagne, ils campèrent à Salmona.
42 They left Zalmonah and encamped at Punon.	42 Partis de Salmona, ils campèrent à Pounon.
43 They left Punon and encamped at Oboth.	43 Partis de Pounon, ils campèrent à Obot.
44 They left Oboth and encamped in Moabite territory at Iye-Abarim.	44 Partis d’Obot, ils campèrent aux Ruines-des-Abarim sur la frontière de Moab.

48 They left the Abarim mountains and encamped on the Plains of Moab, near the Jordan oppositeJericho.	48 Partis des Abarim, ils campèrent aux Steppes-de-Moab près du Jourdain face à Jéricho.
49 They encamped near the Jordan between Beth-ha-Jeshimoth and Abel-ha-Shittim, on the Plains ofMoab.	49 Ils campèrent près du Jourdain, entre Beth-Ha-Yéchimot et Abel-Ha-Chittim, dans les Steppes-de-Moab.
50 Yahweh spoke to Moses on the Plains of Moab, near the Jordan by Jericho, and said:	50 Yahvé dit à Moïse dans les Steppes-de-Moab, près du Jourdain, face à Jéricho:
51 'Speak to the Israelites and say: "When you have crossed the Jordan into Canaan,	51 “Voici ce que tu diras aux Israélites: Lorsque vous aurez traversé le Jourdain pour entrer au pays de Canaan,
52 you wil drive out al the local inhabitants before you. You wil destroy al their painted images, youwil destroy al their metal statues and you wil demolish al their high places.	52 il vous faudra chasser devant vous tous les habitants du pays. Vous briserez toutes leurs idoles, vous détruirez toutes leurs statues de métal fondu et vous laisserez en ruines les hauts-lieux.
53 You wil take possession of the country and settle in it, for I have given you the country as yourproperty.	53 Vous serez alors les propriétaires du pays que vous habiterez, car je vous l’ai donné pour que vous le possédiez.
54 You wil share it out by lot among your clans. To a large clan you wil give a larger heritage, and to asmal er clan you wil give a smal er heritage. Where the lot fal s for each, that wil be his. Your heritage wildepend on the size of your tribe.	54 Vous vous partagerez le pays par le sort, selon vos familles. Les plus nombreux recevront un plus grand héritage, les moins nombreux recevront un héritage moindre. On donnera à chacun ce que le sort lui attribuera. Vous partagerez entre vous d’après les tribus.
55 If, however, you do not drive out the local inhabitants before you, the ones you al ow to remain wilbe thorns in your eyes and thistles in your sides and wil harass you in the country where you are living,	55 Mais si vous ne chassez pas devant vous les habitants de ce pays, ceux que vous aurez laissés deviendront comme des épines devant vos yeux et des aiguillons dans vos flancs; ils seront vos adversaires sur votre propre terre.
56 and I shal treat you as I intended to treat them." '	56 Et alors, tout ce que je pensais leur faire, c’est à vous que je le ferai.”
