NEW AMERICAN BIBLELXX
Then Job replied and said:1 υπολαβων δε ιωβ λεγει
No doubt you are the intelligent folk, and with you wisdom shall die!2 ειτα υμεις εστε ανθρωποι η μεθ' υμων τελευτησει σοφια
But I have intelligence as well as you; for who does not know such things as these?3 καμοι μεν καρδια καθ' υμας εστιν
I have become the sport of my neighbors: "The one whom God answers when he calls upon him, The just, the perfect man," is a laughing-stock;4 δικαιος γαρ ανηρ και αμεμπτος εγενηθη εις χλευασμα
The undisturbed esteem my downfall a disgrace such as awaits unsteady feet;5 εις χρονον γαρ τακτον ητοιμαστο πεσειν υπο αλλους οικους τε αυτου εκπορθεισθαι υπο ανομων
Yet the tents of robbers are prosperous, and those who provoke God are secure.6 ου μην δε αλλα μηδεις πεποιθετω πονηρος ων αθωος εσεσθαι οσοι παροργιζουσιν τον κυριον ως ουχι και ετασις αυτων εσται
But now ask the beasts to teach you, and the birds of the air to tell you;7 αλλα δη επερωτησον τετραποδα εαν σοι ειπωσιν πετεινα δε ουρανου εαν σοι απαγγειλωσιν
Or the reptiles on earth to instruct you, and the fish of the sea to inform you.8 εκδιηγησαι δε γη εαν σοι φραση και εξηγησονται σοι οι ιχθυες της θαλασσης
Which of all these does not know that the hand of God has done this?9 τις ουκ εγνω εν πασι τουτοις οτι χειρ κυριου εποιησεν ταυτα
In his hand is the soul of every living thing, and the life breath of all mankind.10 ει μη εν χειρι αυτου ψυχη παντων των ζωντων και πνευμα παντος ανθρωπου
Does not the ear judge words as the mouth tastes food?11 ους μεν γαρ ρηματα διακρινει λαρυγξ δε σιτα γευεται
So with old age is wisdom, and with length of days understanding.12 εν πολλω χρονω σοφια εν δε πολλω βιω επιστημη
With him are wisdom and might; his are counsel and understanding.13 παρ' αυτω σοφια και δυναμις αυτω βουλη και συνεσις
If he breaks a thing down, there is no rebuilding; if he imprisons a man, there is no release.14 εαν καταβαλη τις οικοδομησει εαν κλειση κατα ανθρωπων τις ανοιξει
He holds back the waters and there is drought; he sends them forth and they overwhelm the land.15 εαν κωλυση το ωδωρ ξηρανει την γην εαν δε επαφη απωλεσεν αυτην καταστρεψας
With him are strength and prudence; the misled and the misleaders are his.16 παρ' αυτω κρατος και ισχυς αυτω επιστημη και συνεσις
He sends counselors away barefoot, and of judges he makes fools.17 διαγων βουλευτας αιχμαλωτους κριτας δε γης εξεστησεν
He loosens the bonds imposed by kings and leaves but a waistcloth to bind the king's own loins.18 καθιζανων βασιλεις επι θρονους και περιεδησεν ζωνη οσφυας αυτων
and lets their never-failing waters flow away.19 εξαποστελλων ιερεις αιχμαλωτους δυναστας δε γης κατεστρεψεν
He silences the trusted adviser, and takes discretion from the aged.20 διαλλασσων χειλη πιστων συνεσιν δε πρεσβυτερων εγνω
He breaks down the barriers of the streams21 εκχεων ατιμιαν επ' αρχοντας ταπεινους δε ιασατο
The recesses of the darkness he discloses, and brings the gloom forth to the light.22 ανακαλυπτων βαθεα εκ σκοτους εξηγαγεν δε εις φως σκιαν θανατου
He makes nations great and he destroys them; he spreads peoples abroad and he abandons them.23 πλανων εθνη και απολλυων αυτα καταστρωννυων εθνη και καθοδηγων αυτα
He takes understanding from the leaders of the land,24 διαλλασσων καρδιας αρχοντων γης επλανησεν δε αυτους οδω η ουκ ηδεισαν
till they grope in the darkness without light; he makes them stagger like drunken men.25 ψηλαφησαισαν σκοτος και μη φως πλανηθειησαν δε ωσπερ ο μεθυων
