Lettera di Giacomo 1

1 Giacomo servo di Dio, e del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo, alle dodici tribù disperse, salute.	1 From James, servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. Greetings to the twelve tribes of theDispersion.
2 Abbiate, fratelli miei come argomento di vero gaudio le varie tentazioni, nelle quali urterete:	2 My brothers, consider it a great joy when trials of many kinds come upon you,
3 Sapendo, come Io sperimento della vostra fede produce la pazienza.	3 for you wel know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance, and
4 La pazienza poi fa opera perfetta: onde voi siate perfetti, e intieri, e in nulla cosa manchevoli.	4 perseverance must complete its work so that you wil become ful y developed, complete, not deficient inany way.
5 Che se alcuno di voi è bisognoso di sapienza, la chieda a Dio, che da a tutti abbondantemente, e noi rimprovera: esaragli conceduta.	5 Any of you who lacks wisdom must ask God, who gives to al generously and without scolding; it wil begiven.
6 Ma chieda con fede senza niente esitare: imperocché chi esita, egli è simile al flutto del mare mosso, e agitato dal vento:	6 But the prayer must be made with faith, and no trace of doubt, because a person who has doubts is likethe waves thrown up in the sea by the buffeting of the wind.
7 Non si pensi adunque un tal uomo di ottener cosa alcuna dal Signore.	7 That sort of person, in two minds,
8 L'uomo di animo doppio egli è incostante in tutti i suoi andamenti.	8 inconsistent in every activity, must not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
9 Or il fratello, che è in basso stato, faccia gloria del suo innalzamento:	9 It is right that the brother in humble circumstances should glory in being lifted up,
10 Il ricco poi della sua umiliazione, perché come fior d'erba ci passerà:	10 and the rich in being brought low. For the rich wil last no longer than the wild flower;
11 Imperocché si levò il sole cocente, e l'erba si seccò, e il fior ne cadde, e la venustà dell'aspetto di lui perì: cosi anche il ricco ne' suoi avanzamenti appassirà.	11 the scorching sun comes up, and the grass withers, its flower falls, its beauty is lost. It is the samewith the rich: in the middle of a busy life, the rich wil wither.
12 Beato l'uomo, che tollera tentazione: perché quando sarà stato provato, riceverà la corona di vita promessa da Dio a quegli, che lo amano.	12 Blessed is anyone who perseveres when trials come. Such a person is of proven worth and will winthe prize of life, the crown that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
13 Nissuno quand'è tentato, dica, che è tentato da Dio: imperocché Dio non è tentatore di cose male: ed ei non tenta nissuno.	13 Never, when you are being put to the test, say, 'God is tempting me'; God cannot be tempted by evil,and he does not put anybody to the test .
14 Ma ciascuno è tentato dalla propria concupiscenza, che lo tragge, e lo alletta.	14 Everyone is put to the test by being attracted and seduced by that person's own wrong desire.
15 Indi la concupiscenza quando ha conceputo, partorisce il peccato: il peccato poi consumato che sia, genera la morte.	15 Then the desire conceives and gives birth to sin, and when sin reaches ful growth, it gives birth todeath.
16 Non vogliate adunque ingannarvi, fratelli miei dilettissimi.	16 Make no mistake about this, my dear brothers:
17 Ogni buon dato, e ogni perfetto dono viene di sopra, scendendo da quel Padre de' lumi, in cui non è mutamento, né alternativa di adombramento.	17 al that is good, al that is perfect, is given us from above; it comes down from the Father of al light;with him there is no such thing as alteration, no shadow caused by change.
18 Imperocché egli per sua volontà ci generò per la partita di verità: affinchè noi siamo quali primizie delle sue creature.	18 By his own choice he gave birth to us by the message of the truth so that we should be a sort of first-fruits of all his creation.
19 Voi lo sapete, fratelli miei dilettissimi. Or sia ogni uomo pronto ad ascoltare; lento a parlare, e lento all'ira:	19 Remember this, my dear brothers: everyone should be quick to listen but slow to speak and slow tohuman anger;
20 Imperocché l'ira dell'uomo non adempie la giustizia di Dio.	20 God's saving justice is never served by human anger;
21 Per la qual cosa rigettando ogni immondezza, e la ridondante malizia, con mansueto animo abbracciate la parola (in voi) innestata, la quale può salvare le anime vostre.	21 so do away with al impurities and remnants of evil. Humbly welcome the Word which has beenplanted in you and can save your souls.
22 Siate perciò facitori della parola, e non uditori solamente, ingannando voi stessi.	22 But you must do what the Word tel s you and not just listen to it and deceive yourselves.
23 Imperocché se uno è uditore, e non facitore della parola, ei si rassomiglierà a un uomo, che considera il nativo suo volto ad uno specchio:	23 Anyone who listens to the Word and takes no action is like someone who looks at his own features ina mirror and,
24 Il quale considerato che si è, se ne va, e si scorda subita, qual ei si fosse.	24 once he has seen what he looks like, goes off and immediately forgets it.
25 Ma chi mirerà addentro nella perfetta legge della libertà, e in essa persevererà, non essendo uditore smemorato, ma facitore di opere: questi nel suo fare sarà beato.	25 But anyone who looks steadily at the perfect law of freedom and keeps to it -- not listening andforgetting, but putting it into practice -- will be blessed in every undertaking.
26 Che se uno si crede di essere religioso, senza raffrenare la propria lingua, anzi seducendo il proprio cuore, la religione di costui è vana.	26 Nobody who fails to keep a tight rein on the tongue can claim to be religious; this is mere self-deception; that person's religion is worthless.
27 Religione para, e immacolata nel cospetto di Dio, e del Padre, è questa: di visitare i pupilli, e le vedove nella loro tribolazione, e di conservarsi puro da questo secolo.	27 Pure, unspoilt religion, in the eyes of God our Father, is this: coming to the help of orphans andwidows in their hardships, and keeping oneself uncontaminated by the world.
