| 1 E chiamati a se i dodici discepoli diede loro potestà sopra gli spiriti impuri, affinchè gli scacciassero, e di curare tutti i languori, e tutte le malattie. | 1 And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every infirmity. |

| 3 Giacomo figliuolo di Zebedeo, e Giovanni suo fratello, Filippo, e Bartolommeo; Tommaso, e Matteo il pubblicano, Giacomo di Alfeo, e Taddeo. | 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; |
| 4 Simone Cananeo, e Giuda Iscariote, il quale anche lo tradì. | 4 Simon the Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him. |
| 5 Questi dodici Gesù gli spedi, ordinando loro, e dicendo: Non anderete tra i gentili, e non entrerete nelle città de' Samaritani. | 5 These twelve Jesus sent out, charging them, "Go nowhere among the Gentiles, and enter no town of the Samaritans, |
| 6 Ma andate piuttosto alle pecorelle perdute della casa di Israello. | 6 but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. |
| 7 E andando annunziate, e dite: Il regno de' cieli è vicino. | 7 And preach as you go, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' |
| 8 Rendete la sanità a' malati, risuscitate i morti, mondate i leprosi, cacciate i demonj, date gratuitamente quello, che gratuitamente avete ricevuto. | 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying, give without pay. |
| 9 Non vogliate avere né oro, né argento, né denaro nelle vostre borse. | 9 Take no gold, nor silver, nor copper in your belts, |
| 10 Né bisacce pel viaggio, né due vesti, né scarpe, né bastone; imperocché merita l'operajo il suo sostentamento. | 10 no bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor a staff; for the laborer deserves his food. |
| 11 E in qualunque città, o castello entrerete, informatevi, chi in esso sia degno: e presso di lui fermatevi, sino a che ve n' andiate. | 11 And whatever town or village you enter, find out who is worthy in it, and stay with him until you depart. |
| 12 All'entrar poi nella casa salutatela con dire: Pace sia a questa casa. | 12 As you enter the house, salute it. |
| 13 E se pur quella casa ne sarà degna, verrà sopra di lei la vostra pace: se poi non è degna, la vostra pace tornerà a voi. | 13 And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. |
| 14 E se alcuno non vi riceverà, né ascolterà le vostre parole: uscendo fuora da quella casa, o da quella città scuotete la polvere da' vostri piedi. | 14 And if any one will not receive you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet as you leave that house or town. |
| 15 In verità io vi dico: Sarà meno punita nel dì del giudizio Sodoma, e Gomorra, che quella città. | 15 Truly, I say to you, it shall be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town. |
| 16 Ecco che io vi mando come pecore in mezzo a' lupi. Siate adunque prudenti come i serpenti, e semplici come le colombe. | 16 "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. |
| 17 Guardatevi però dagli uomini: perché vi faran comparire nelle loro adunanze, e vi frusteranno nelle loro sinagoghe: | 17 Beware of men; for they will deliver you up to councils, and flog you in their synagogues, |
| 18 E sarete condotti per cauta mia dinanzi ai presidenti, e ai re, come testimoni contro di essi, e contro le nazioni. | 18 and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear testimony before them and the Gentiles. |
| 19 Ma quando sarete posti nelle lor mani, non vi mettete in pena del che, o del come abbiate a patiate; imperocché vi sarà dato in quel punto quello, che abbiate da dire. | 19 When they deliver you up, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour; |
| 20 Imperocché non siete voi, che parlate; ma lo spirito del Padre vostro è quegli, che parla in voi. | 20 for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. |
| 21 Or il fratello darà il fratello alla morte, e il padre (darà) il figlio: e si leveran su i figliuoli contro de' genitori, e li metteranno a morte: | 21 Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death; |
| 22 E sarete in odio a tutti per causa del nome mio; ma chi persevererà sino alla fine, si salverà. | 22 and you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved. |
| 23 Ma allor quando vi perseguiteranno in questa città, fuggite a un'altra. In verità io vi dico, non finirete (di istruire) le città d'Israele, prima che venga il figliuolo dell'uomo. | 23 When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next; for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel, before the Son of man comes. |
| 24 Non v'ha discepolo da più del maestro, né servo da più del suo padrone. | 24 "A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master; |
| 25 Basti al discepolo di essere come il maestro; e al servo di essere come il padrone. Se hanno chiamato Beelzebub il padron di casa, quanto più i suoi domestici? | 25 it is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Be-elzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household. |
| 26 Non abbiate adunque paura di loro. Imperocché nulla vi è di nascosto, che non sia per essere rivelato; e niente d'occulto, che non s'abbia a sapere. | 26 "So have no fear of them; for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. |
| 27 Dite in pieno giorno quello, che io vi dico all'oscuro, e predicate sui tetti quel, che vi è stato detto in un orecchio. | 27 What I tell you in the dark, utter in the light; and what you hear whispered, proclaim upon the housetops. |
| 28 E non temete coloro, che uccidono il corpo, e non possono uccider l'anima; ma temete piuttosto colui, che può mandar in perdizione e l'anima, e il corpo all'inferno. | 28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. |
| 29 Non è egli vero, che due passerotti sì vendono un quattrino: e un solo di questi non cascherà per terra senza del Padre vostro? | 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father's will. |
| 30 Ma i capelli del capo vostro sono stati contati. | 30 But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. |
| 31 Non temete adunque: voi sorpassate di pregio un gran numero di passerotti. | 31 Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. |
| 32 Chiunque pertanto mi confesserà dinanzi agli uomini, anch'io lo confesserò dinanzi al Padre mio, che è ne' cieli. | 32 So every one who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven; |
| 33 E chiunque mi rinnegherà dinanzi agli uomini, lo rinnegherò anch' io dinanzi al Padre mio, che è ne' cieli. | 33 but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven. |
| 34 Non vi pensate, che io sia venuto a metter la pace sopra la terra: Non son venuto a metter pace, ma guerra. | 34 "Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. |
| 35 Imperocché son venuto a dividere il figlio dal padre, e la figlia dalla madre, e la nuora dalla suocera. | 35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; |
| 36 E nemici dell'uomo i proprj domestici. | 36 and a man's foes will be those of his own household. |
| 37 Chi ama suo padre, o sua madre più di me, non è degno di me: e chi ama il figlio, o la figlia più di me, non è degno di me. | 37 He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; |
| 38 E chi non prende la sua croce, e mi segue, non è degno di me. | 38 and he who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. |
| 39 Chi tien conto della sua vita, la perderà: e chi avrà perduto la vita per amor mio, la troverà. | 39 He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it. |
| 40 Chi riceve voi, riceve me: e chi mi riceve, riceve colui, che mi ha mandato. | 40 "He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me. |
| 41 Chi riceve un profeta come profeta, riceverà la mercede del profeta: e chi riceverà un giusto a titolo dì giusto, avrà la mercede del giusto. | 41 He who receives a prophet because he is a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward, and he who receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. |
| 42 E chiunque avrà dato da bere un sol bicchiere d'acqua fresca a uno di questi più piccoli, purché a titolo di discepolo: in verità io vi dico, non perderà la sua ricompensa. | 42 And whoever gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he shall not lose his reward." |
