| 2 Il Signore è un Dio zelatore, che fa vendetta; il Signore fa vendetta, e si arma di furore; il Signore fa vendetta de' suoi nemici, e serba l'ira pe' suoi nemici. | 2 The LORD is a jealous God and avenging, the LORD is avenging and wrathful; the LORD takes vengeance on his adversaries and keeps wrath for his enemies. |
| 3 11 Signore paziente, e grande in possanza, né avrà alcuno per mondo, e per innocente. Il Signore cammina tralle tempeste, e i turbini, e sotto i suoi piedi una nebbia di polvere. | 3 The LORD is slow to anger and of great might, and the LORD will by no means clear the guilty. His way is in whirlwind and storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet. |
| 4 Egli sgrida il mare, e lo asciuga, e i fiumi tutti cangia in arida terra: rende sterile il Basan, e il Carmelo, e languiscono i fiori del Libano. | 4 He rebukes the sea and makes it dry, he dries up all the rivers; Bashan and Carmel wither, the bloom of Lebanon fades. |
| 5 Per lui sono scosse le montagne, e le colline son desolate; dinanzi a lui trema la terra, e il mondo tutto, e tutti quei, che lo abitano. | 5 The mountains quake before him, the hills melt; the earth is laid waste before him, the world and all that dwell therein. |
| 6 Chi sussister potrà all'apparir del suo sdegno? E chi potrà a lui resistere irato, e in furore? L'indegnazione di lui divampa qual fuoco, e da esso i massi sono squagliati. | 6 Who can stand before his indignation? Who can endure the heat of his anger? His wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken asunder by him. |
| 7 Buono il Signore, e consola nel giorno di tribolazione; e conosce quelli,che sperano in lui: | 7 The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him. |
| 8 Égli con impetuosa inondazione distruggerà la sede di lei, e i nemici di lui dalle tenebre saran perseguitati. | 8 But with an overflowing flood he will make a full end of his adversaries, and will pursue his enemies into darkness. |
| 9 Che andate voi macchinando contro il Signore? Egli farà fine: non verrà doppia tribolazione. | 9 What do you plot against the LORD? He will make a full end; he will not take vengeance twice on his foes. |
| 10 Perocché costoro, che ne' conviti sbevazzano insieme, saran consunti come le spine, che tra loro s'intrecciano, e come aridissima paglia. | 10 Like entangled thorns they are consumed, like dry stubble. |
| 11 Da te uscirà colui, che mal pensa contro il Signore, che ha in testa iniqui disegni. | 11 Did one not come out from you, who plotted evil against the LORD, and counseled villainy? |
| 12 Queste cose dice il Signore: Quantunque ei siano fortissimi, e anche in maggior numero, contuttociò saranno recisi, e passeranno. Io ti ho afflitto, ma non ti affliggerò di più. | 12 Thus says the LORD, "Though they be strong and many, they will be cut off and pass away. Though I have afflicted you, I will afflict you no more. |
| 13 E la verga di lui romperò infesta al tuo dorso, e spezzerò le tue catene. | 13 And now I will break his yoke from off you and will burst your bonds asunder." |
| 14 Il Signore pronunzierà contro di te questa sentenza: non rimarrà più seme del tuo nome: sterminerò le statue, e gl'idoli di getto dalla casa del Dio tuo, e farolla tuo sepolcro, e tu sarai disprezzato. | 14 The LORD has given commandment about you: "No more shall your name be perpetuated; from the house of your gods I will cut off the graven image and the molten image. I will make your grave, for you are vile." |
| 15 Ècco sui monti i piedi di colui, che annunzia la buona novella: annunzia la pace: celebra, o Giuda, le tue solennità, e sciogli i tuoi voti; perocché non passerà mai più Belial per le tue terre: egli è perito interamente. | 15 Behold, on the mountains the feet of him who brings good tidings, who proclaims peace! Keep your feasts, O Judah, fulfil your vows, for never again shall the wicked come against you, he is utterly cut off. |
