Psalms 94

DOUAI-RHEIMS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 The Lord is the God to whom revenge belongeth: the God of revenge hath acted freely.	1 God of vengeance, Yahweh, God of vengeance, shine forth!
2 Lift up thyself, thou that judgest the earth: render a reward to the proud.	2 Arise, judge of the world, give back the proud what they deserve!
3 How long shall sinners, O Lord: how long shall sinners glory?	3 How long are the wicked, Yahweh, how long are the wicked to triumph?
4 Shall they utter, and speak iniquity: shall all speak who work injustice?	4 They bluster and boast, they flaunt themselves, all the evil-doers.
5 Thy people, O Lord, they have brought low: and they have afflicted thy inheritance.	5 They crush your people, Yahweh, they oppress your heritage,
6 They have slain the widow and the stranger: and they have murdered the fatherless.	6 they murder the widow and the stranger, bring the orphan to a violent death.
7 And they have said: The Lord shall not see: neither shall the God of Jacob understand.	7 They say, 'Yahweh is not looking, the God of Jacob is taking no notice.'
8 Understand, ye senseless among the people: and, you fools, be wise at last.	8 Take notice yourselves, you coarsest of people! Fools, when wil you learn some sense?
9 He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? or he that formed the eye, doth he not consider?	9 Shal he who implanted the ear not hear, he who fashioned the eye not see?
10 He that chastiseth nations, shall he not rebuke: he that teacheth man knowledge?	10 Shal he who instructs nations not punish? Yahweh, the teacher of al people,
11 The Lord knoweth the thoughts of men, that they are vain.	11 knows human plans and how insipid they are.
12 Blessed is the man whom thou shalt instruct, O Lord: and shalt teach him out of thy law.	12 How blessed are those you instruct, Yahweh, whom you teach by means of your law,
13 That thou mayst give him rest from the evil days: till a pit be dug for the wicked.	13 to give them respite in evil times, til a pit is dug for the wicked.
14 For the Lord will not cast off his people: neither will he forsake his own inheritance.	14 Yahweh will not abandon his people, he wil not desert his heritage;
15 Until justice be turned into judgment: and they that are near it are all the upright in heart.	15 for judgement will again become saving justice, and in its wake al upright hearts will fol ow.
16 Who shall rise up for me against the evildoers? or who shall stand with me against the workers of iniquity?	16 Who rises up on my side against the wicked? Who stands firm on my side against al evil-doers?
17 Unless the Lord had been my helper, my soul had almost dwelt in hell.	17 If Yahweh did not come to my help, I should soon find myself dwel ing in the silence.
18 If I said: My foot is moved: thy mercy, O Lord, assisted me.	18 I need only say, 'I am slipping,' for your faithful love, Yahweh, to support me;
19 According to the multitude of my sorrows in my heart, thy comforts have given joy to my soul.	19 however great the anxiety of my heart, your consolations soothe me.
20 Doth the seat of iniquity stick to thee, who framest labour in commandment?	20 Are you partner to a destructive court, that gives disorder the status of law?
21 They will hunt after the soul of the just, and will condemn innocent blood.	21 They make an attack on the life of the upright, and condemn innocent blood.
22 But the Lord is my refuge: and my God the help of my hope.	22 No! Yahweh is a stronghold to me, my God is my rock of refuge.
23 And he will render them their iniquity: and in their malice he will destroy them: the Lord our God will destroy them.	23 He turns back their guilt on themselves, annihilates them for their wickedness, he annihilates them,Yahweh our God.
