DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
The Lord is the God to whom revenge belongeth: the God of revenge hath acted freely.1 LORD, avenging God, avenging God, shine forth!
Lift up thyself, thou that judgest the earth: render a reward to the proud.2 Rise up, judge of the earth; give the proud what they deserve.
How long shall sinners, O Lord: how long shall sinners glory?3 How long, LORD, shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked glory?
Shall they utter, and speak iniquity: shall all speak who work injustice?4 How long will they mouth haughty speeches, go on boasting, all these evildoers?
Thy people, O Lord, they have brought low: and they have afflicted thy inheritance.5 They crush your people, LORD, torment your very own.
They have slain the widow and the stranger: and they have murdered the fatherless.6 They kill the widow and alien; the fatherless they murder.
And they have said: The Lord shall not see: neither shall the God of Jacob understand.7 They say, "The LORD does not see; the God of Jacob takes no notice."
Understand, ye senseless among the people: and, you fools, be wise at last.8 Understand, you stupid people! You fools, when will you be wise?
He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? or he that formed the eye, doth he not consider?9 Does the one who shaped the ear not hear? The one who formed the eye not see?
He that chastiseth nations, shall he not rebuke: he that teacheth man knowledge?10 Does the one who guides nations not rebuke? The one who teaches humans not have knowledge?
The Lord knoweth the thoughts of men, that they are vain.11 The LORD does know human plans; they are only puffs of air.
Blessed is the man whom thou shalt instruct, O Lord: and shalt teach him out of thy law.12 Happy those whom you guide, LORD, whom you teach by your instruction.
That thou mayst give him rest from the evil days: till a pit be dug for the wicked.13 You give them rest from evil days, while a pit is being dug for the wicked.
For the Lord will not cast off his people: neither will he forsake his own inheritance.14 You, LORD, will not forsake your people, nor abandon your very own.
Until justice be turned into judgment: and they that are near it are all the upright in heart.15 Judgment shall again be just, and all the upright of heart will follow it.
Who shall rise up for me against the evildoers? or who shall stand with me against the workers of iniquity?16 Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will stand up for me against evildoers?
Unless the Lord had been my helper, my soul had almost dwelt in hell.17 If the LORD were not my help, I would long have been silent in the grave.
If I said: My foot is moved: thy mercy, O Lord, assisted me.18 When I say, "My foot is slipping," your love, LORD, holds me up.
According to the multitude of my sorrows in my heart, thy comforts have given joy to my soul.19 When cares increase within me, your comfort gives me joy.
Doth the seat of iniquity stick to thee, who framest labour in commandment?20 Can unjust judges be your allies, those who create burdens in the name of law,
They will hunt after the soul of the just, and will condemn innocent blood.21 Those who conspire against the just and condemn the innocent to death?
But the Lord is my refuge: and my God the help of my hope.22 No, the LORD is my secure height, my God, the rock where I find refuge,
And he will render them their iniquity: and in their malice he will destroy them: the Lord our God will destroy them.23 Who will turn back their evil upon them and destroy them for their wickedness. Surely the LORD our God will destroy them!
