DOUAI-RHEIMSLXX
Then the Lord answered Job out of a whirlwind, and said :1 μετα δε το παυσασθαι ελιουν της λεξεως ειπεν ο κυριος τω ιωβ δια λαιλαπος και νεφων
Who is this that wrappeth up sentences in unskillful words?2 τις ουτος ο κρυπτων με βουλην συνεχων δε ρηματα εν καρδια εμε δε οιεται κρυπτειν
Gird up thy loins like a man : I will ask thee, and answer thou me.3 ζωσαι ωσπερ ανηρ την οσφυν σου ερωτησω δε σε συ δε μοι αποκριθητι
Where wast thou when I laid up the foundations of the earth ? tell me if thou hast understanding.4 που ης εν τω θεμελιουν με την γην απαγγειλον δε μοι ει επιστη συνεσιν
Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?5 τις εθετο τα μετρα αυτης ει οιδας η τις ο επαγαγων σπαρτιον επ' αυτης
Upon what are its bases grounded? or who laid the corner stone thereof,6 επι τινος οι κρικοι αυτης πεπηγασιν τις δε εστιν ο βαλων λιθον γωνιαιον επ' αυτης
When the morning stars praised me together, and all the sons of God made a joyful melody?7 οτε εγενηθησαν αστρα ηνεσαν με φωνη μεγαλη παντες αγγελοι μου
Who shut up the sea with doors, when it broke forth as issuing out of the womb :8 εφραξα δε θαλασσαν πυλαις οτε εμαιμασσεν εκ κοιλιας μητρος αυτης εκπορευομενη
when I made a cloud the garment thereof, and wrapped it in a mist as in swaddling bands?9 εθεμην δε αυτη νεφος αμφιασιν ομιχλη δε αυτην εσπαργανωσα
I set my bounds around it, and made it bars and doors :10 εθεμην δε αυτη ορια περιθεις κλειθρα και πυλας
And I said : Hitherto thou shalt come, and shalt go no further, and here thou shalt break thy swelling waves.11 ειπα δε αυτη μεχρι τουτου ελευση και ουχ υπερβηση αλλ' εν σεαυτη συντριβησεται σου τα κυματα
Didst thou since thy birth command the morning, and shew the dawning of the day its place?12 η επι σου συντεταχα φεγγος πρωινον εωσφορος δε ειδεν την εαυτου ταξιν
And didst thou hold the extremities of the earth shaking them, and hast thou shaken the ungodly out of it?13 επιλαβεσθαι πτερυγων γης εκτιναξαι ασεβεις εξ αυτης
The seal shall be restored as clay, and shall stand as a garment :14 η συ λαβων γην πηλον επλασας ζωον και λαλητον αυτον εθου επι γης
From the wicked their light shall be taken away, and the high arm shall be broken.15 αφειλας δε απο ασεβων το φως βραχιονα δε υπερηφανων συνετριψας
Hast thou entered into the depths of the sea, and walked in the lowest parts of the deep?16 ηλθες δε επι πηγην θαλασσης εν δε ιχνεσιν αβυσσου περιεπατησας
Have the gates of death been opened to thee, and hast thou seen the darksome doors?17 ανοιγονται δε σοι φοβω πυλαι θανατου πυλωροι δε αδου ιδοντες σε επτηξαν
Hast thou considered the breadth of the earth? tell me, if thou knowest all things?18 νενουθετησαι δε το ευρος της υπ' ουρανον αναγγειλον δη μοι ποση τις εστιν
Where is the way where light dwelleth, and where is the place of darkness :19 ποια δε γη αυλιζεται το φως σκοτους δε ποιος ο τοπος
That thou mayst bring every thing to its own bounds, and understand the paths of the house thereof.20 ει αγαγοις με εις ορια αυτων ει δε και επιστασαι τριβους αυτων
Didst thou know then that thou shouldst be born ? and didst thou know the number of thy days?21 οιδα αρα οτι τοτε γεγεννησαι αριθμος δε ετων σου πολυς
Hast thou entered into the storehouses of the snow, or has thou beheld the treasures of the hail :22 ηλθες δε επι θησαυρους χιονος θησαυρους δε χαλαζης εορακας
Which I have prepared for the time of the enemy, against the day of battle and war?23 αποκειται δε σοι εις ωραν εχθρων εις ημεραν πολεμου και μαχης
By what way is the light spread, and heat divided upon the earth?24 ποθεν δε εκπορευεται παχνη η διασκεδαννυται νοτος εις την υπ' ουρανον
Who gave a course to violent showers, or a way for noisy thunder :25 τις δε ητοιμασεν υετω λαβρω ρυσιν οδον δε κυδοιμων
That it should rain on the earth without man in the wilderness, where no mortal dwelleth :26 του υετισαι επι γην ου ουκ ανηρ ερημον ου ουχ υπαρχει ανθρωπος εν αυτη
That it should fill the desert and desolate land, and should bring forth green grass?27 του χορτασαι αβατον και αοικητον και του εκβλαστησαι εξοδον χλοης
Who is the father of rain ? or who begot the drops of dew?28 τις εστιν υετου πατηρ τις δε εστιν ο τετοκως βωλους δροσου
Out of whose womb came the ice; and the frost from heaven who hath gendered it?29 εκ γαστρος δε τινος εκπορευεται ο κρυσταλλος παχνην δε εν ουρανω τις τετοκεν
The waters are hardened like a stone, and the surface of the deep is congealed.30 η καταβαινει ωσπερ υδωρ ρεον προσωπον δε αβυσσου τις επηξεν
Shalt thou be able to join together the shining stars the Pleiades, or canst thou stop the turning about of Arcturus?31 συνηκας δε δεσμον πλειαδος και φραγμον ωριωνος ηνοιξας
Canst thou bring forth the day star in its time, and make the evening star to rise upon the children of the earth?32 η διανοιξεις μαζουρωθ εν καιρω αυτου και εσπερον επι κομης αυτου αξεις αυτα
Dost thou know the order of heaven, and canst thou set down the reason thereof on the earth?33 επιστασαι δε τροπας ουρανου η τα υπ' ουρανον ομοθυμαδον γινομενα
Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that an abundance of waters may cover thee?34 καλεσεις δε νεφος φωνη και τρομω υδατος λαβρω υπακουσεται σου
Canst thou send lightnings, and will they go, and will they return and say to thee : Here we are?35 αποστελεις δε κεραυνους και πορευσονται ερουσιν δε σοι τι εστιν
Who hath put wisdom in the heart of man? or who gave the cock understanding?36 τις δε εδωκεν γυναιξιν υφασματος σοφιαν η ποικιλτικην επιστημην
Who can declare the order of the heavens, or who can make the harmony of heaven to sleep?37 τις δε ο αριθμων νεφη σοφια ουρανον δε εις γην εκλινεν
When was the dust poured on the earth, and the clods fastened together?38 κεχυται δε ωσπερ γη κονια κεκολληκα δε αυτον ωσπερ λιθω κυβον
Wilt thou take the prey for the lioness, and satisfy the appetite of her whelps,39 θηρευσεις δε λεουσιν βοραν ψυχας δε δρακοντων εμπλησεις
When they couch in the dens and lie in wait in holes?40 δεδοικασιν γαρ εν κοιταις αυτων καθηνται δε εν υλαις ενεδρευοντες
Who provideth food for the raven, when her young ones cry to God, wandering about, because they have no meat?41 τις δε ητοιμασεν κορακι βοραν νεοσσοι γαρ αυτου προς κυριον κεκραγασιν πλανωμενοι τα σιτα ζητουντες
