DOUAI-RHEIMS	JERUSALEM
1 Eliu also proceeded, and said :	1 Elihu continua et dit:
2 Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee : for I have yet somewhat to speak in God's behalf.	2 Patiente un peu et laisse-moi t'instruire, car je n'ai pas tout dit en faveur de Dieu.
3 I will repeat my knowledge from the beginning, and I will prove my Maker just.	3 Je veux tirer mon savoir de très loin, pour justifier mon Créateur.
4 For indeed my words are without a lie, and perfect knowledge shall be proved to thee.	4 En vérité, mes paroles ignorent le mensonge, et un homme d'une science accomplie est près de toi.
5 God doth not cast away the mighty, whereas he himself also is mighty.	5 Dieu ne rejette pas l'homme au coeur pur,
6 But he saveth not the wicked, and he giveth judgment to the poor.	6 il ne laisse pas vivre le méchant en pleine force. Il rend justice aux pauvres,
7 He will not take away his eyes from the just, and he placeth kings on the throne for ever, and they are exalted.	7 fait prévaloir les droits du juste. Lorsqu'il élève des rois au trône et que s'exaltent ceux qui siègent pourtoujours,
8 And if they shall be in chains, and be bound with the cords of poverty :	8 alors il les lie avec des chaînes, ils sont pris dans les liens de l'affliction.
9 He shall shew them their works, and their wicked deeds, because they have been violent.	9 Il les éclaire sur leurs actes, sur les fautes d'orgueil qu'ils ont commises.
10 He also shall open their ear, to correct them : and shall speak, that they may return from iniquity.	10 A leurs oreilles il fait entendre un avertissement, leur ordonne de se détourner du mal.
11 If they shall hear and observe, they shall accomplish their days in good, and their years in glory.	11 S'ils écoutent et se montrent dociles, leurs jours s'achèvent dans le bonheur et leurs années dans lesdélices.
12 But if they hear not, they shall pass by the sword, and shall be consumed in folly.	12 Sinon, ils passent par le Canal et ils périssent en insensés.
13 Dissemblers and crafty men prove the wrath of God, neither shall they cry when they are bound.	13 Oui, les endurcis, qui gardent leur colère et ne crient pas à l'aide quand il les enchaîne,
14 Their soul shall die in a storm, and their life among the effeminate.	14 meurent en pleine jeunesse et leur vie est méprisée.
15 He shall deliver the poor out of his distress, and shall open his ear in affliction.	15 Mais il sauve le pauvre par sa pauvreté, il l'avertit dans sa misère.
16 Therefore he shall set thee at large out of the narrow mouth, and which hath no foundation under it : and the rest of thy table shall be full of fatness.	16 Toi aussi, il veut t'arracher à l'angoisse. Tandis que tu jouissais d'une abondance sans restriction etque la graisse débordait sur ta table,
17 Thy cause hath been judged as that of the wicked, cause and judgment thou shalt recover.	17 tu n'instruisais pas le procès des méchants, et ne faisais pas droit à l'orphelin.
18 Therefore let not anger overcome thee to oppress any man : neither let multitude of gifts turn thee aside.	18 Prends garde d'être séduit par l'abondance, corrompu par de riches présents.
19 Lay down thy greatness without tribulation, and all the mighty of strength.	19 Fais comparaître le grand comme l'homme sans or, l'homme au bras puissant comme le faible.
20 Prolong not the night that people may come up for them.	20 N'écrase pas ceux qui te sont étrangers pour mettre à leur place ta parenté.
21 Beware thou turn not aside to iniquity : for this thou hast begun to follow after misery.	21 Garde-toi de te porter vers l'injustice, car c'est pour cela que l'affliction t'éprouve.
22 Behold, God is high in his strength, and none is like him among the lawgivers.	22 Vois, Dieu est sublime par sa force et quel maître lui comparer?
23 Who can search out his ways? or who can say to him : Thou has wrought iniquity?	23 Qui lui a indiqué la voie à suivre, qui oserait lui dire: "Tu as commis l'injustice?"
24 Remember that thou knowest not his work, concerning which men have sung.	24 Songe plutôt à magnifier son oeuvre, que l'homme a célébrée par des cantiques.
25 All men see him, every one beholdeth afar off.	25 C'est un spectacle offert à tous, à distance l'homme la regarde.
26 Behold, God is great, exceeding our knowledge : the number of his years is inestimable.	26 Oui, Dieu est si grand qu'il dépasse notre science, et le nombre de ses ans reste incalculable.
27 He lifteth up the drops of rain, and poureth out showers like floods :	27 C'est lui qui réduit les gouttes d'eau, pulvérise la pluie en brouillard.
28 Which flow from the clouds that cover all above.	28 Et les nuages déversent celle-ci, la font ruisseler sur la foule humaine.
29 If he will spread out clouds as his tent,	29 Qui comprendra encore les déploiements de sa nuée, le grondement menaçant de sa tente?
30 And lighten with his light from above, he shall cover also the ends of the sea.	30 Il répand un brouillard devant lui, couvre les sommets des montagnes.
31 For by these he judgeth people, and giveth food to many mortals.	31 Par eux il sustente les peuples, leur donne la nourriture en abondance.
32 In his hands he hideth the light, and commandeth it to come again.	32 A pleines mains, il soulève l'éclair et lui fixe le but à atteindre.
33 He sheweth his friend concerning it, that it is his possession, and that he may come up to it.	33 Son fracas en annonce la venue, la colère s'enflamme contre l'iniquité.
